2K teases a Matt Fitzpatrick announcement for PGA Tour 2K23

PGA Tour 2K23 may be getting some kind of new, Matt Fitzpatrick-themed update, if a new tease from 2K is anything to go by

2K Games is apparently cooking up some kind of new PGA Tour 2K23 announcement involving Matt Fitzpatrick. The publisher posted a tweet welcoming Fitzpatrick to the 2K family and said more details about the sports game are coming soon.

In December, he missed out on the shortlist for Sports Personality of the Year, but it seems evident his career won’t suffer for it. The news comes as the PGA Tour kicks off in Hawaii, with Fitzpatrick enjoying favorable odds and showing early promise in the opening rounds.

As for what the news may be, there’s not much indication at this point. PGA 2K games often get DLC, but extra content tends to be things like outfits for MyCareer mode.

Whether 2K has a player pack in store with several professional players – or a mix of professional players and surprise cameos like Michael Jordan – or is just welcoming Fitzpatrick specifically, we’ll just have to wait and see.

PGA Tour 2K23 launched in October 2022 with a somewhat divisive reception. Fans appreciated its true-to-life difficulty curve and attention to detail, though it struggled to win many newcomers to the series.

PGA Tour 2K23’s LPGA inclusion proves the growth of the women’s game, say Lexi Thompson and Lydia Ko

PGA Tour 2K23 finally includes LGPA competitors, and Lydia Ko and Lexi Thompson talk to us about their appearance in the game.

2022 has been the ideal year for fans of women’s sports, and that extends to video games too. FIFA 23’s inclusion of women on the pitch is great, even if they’re still lacking from the FUT mode, as we outline in our FIFA 23 review. It’s a step forward though, and one that’s being mirrored across the industry, now in PGA Tour 2K23 and its inclusion of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association).

For the first time in the history of the series, players can now play as a woman as they journey through their golfing career in the LPGA.

[mm-video type=video id=01ghm08hrzcaj8r9gh79 playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01ghm08hrzcaj8r9gh79/01ghm08hrzcaj8r9gh79-08460f7629521afa3bcac5c4066d2b53.jpg]

Things aren’t quite perfect yet. Women will still be matched against male competitors due to the differences in roster size on both sides. Regardless, this marks a huge step forward for the series, and we can only hope see the ladies side even better represented in future entries.

Lydia Ko is a pro golfer from New Zealand, and is known as the youngest player to achieve the number one rank ever at the age of 17. She is one of the women finally represented in PGA Tour 2K23.

“It’s exciting to be part of the PGA Tour 2K franchise and helps show the growing audience for LPGA,” Ko tells us. “Being a playable pro in PGA Tour 2K23 has been a special moment for me professionally and personally, and a credit to hard work.”

Lexi Thompson is another new addition to the roster, and an American professional golfer that played in the US Women’s Open at the age of 12.

“It is a great honor to be featured in PGA Tour 2K23 and be part of the iconic 2K franchise’s history,” Thompson says. “The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and it shows LGPA’s prominence, helping grow and expand our audience.”

Each of golfers represented are given their iconic kits in-game, and as with the male roster, their strengths and weaknesses are based on real-life stats, which are adjusted to reflect their performance in-game.

PGA Tour 2K23 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. We hope to see more LPGA professionals represented in future entries, or perhaps in post-launch content updates.

PGA Tour 2K23: From TaylorMade drivers to Callaway irons and Titleist golf balls, the gear is in the game

In addition to your favorite golfers, plenty of your favorite gear is in PGA Tour 2K23.

After teeing up a Titleist Pro V1, I addressed the ball on the second hole at TPC Boston, soled my TaylorMade Stealth Plus driver behind it and gave the shot a 100-percent effort. The ball rocketed down the fairway with a tight draw, cleared the fairway bunker on the right and came to rest 313 yards away in the center of the fairway. Sporting a pair of white Nike Air Max shoes, a red Nike tee shirt and gray pants, I strolled down the fairway beside my rival, Bubba Watson, and waved at the fans on the other side of the ropes.

This really happened last Saturday morning … in the newly released PGA Tour 2K23 video game.

As someone who grew up playing Atari and now writes about golf equipment and attends PGA Tour events on a regular basis, I can promise you this: If I turned 22 last Sunday instead of 52, I would starve to death after buying this game. I’d never leave the sofa. I wouldn’t eat. I wouldn’t leave the house. I would become an insomniac with twitchy thumbs, an unbelievable short game and encyclopedic knowledge of places such as TPC Summerlin, Riviera Country Club and The Renaissance Club in Scotland.

I would also have all of the latest gear because, in addition to incredibly detailed recreations of 20 well-known golf courses and the presence of virtual versions of stars such as Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Lydia Ko, 2K included all of today’s hottest clubs, balls, footwear, apparel and accessories. The video below will give you a few peeks.

Your eyes were not deceiving you, that was a Puma logo on Lexi Thompson’s dress, an Adidas triangle on Xander Schauffele’s shirt and a Bridgestone logo on Woods’ golf ball.

The more you play the game, the more virtual currency you can earn and use to buy gear. You can earn virtual currency by achieving things in the game, too, such as hitting a par 5 in two shots and defeating your rival in a match. Of course, the virtual currency also can be bought, using real money, through your video game system.

For companies such as Ping, TaylorMade, Callaway and Titleist, having digital representations of the clubs available now in pro shops is massive.

“To be part of such a popular game and have your products be represented in it and have gamers choose your products is a powerful thing,” said Pete Samuels, Ping’s director of marketing communications. “Naturally we want to be in that space. It reaches a younger demographic, as well.”

PGA Tour 2K23
A Titleist TSi driver, FootJoy shoes and Titleist Pro V1 ball in PGA Tour 2K23 (2K)

People who play golf already know the companies that make clubs, balls and clothes. but through video games such as PGA Tour 2K23, people who would not know a driver from a divot tool can be introduced to brands and learn what clubs the stars use, what clothes they wear and what shoes they like.

“You get more credibility with a younger, newer audience by being in the game,” said Ethan Ganot, Callaway Golf’s director of marketing. Callaway is not only in PGA Tour 2K23 but also in WGT by Topgolf, another highly detailed golf video game that includes digital versions of real equipment.

Ganot noted that Callaway signed an endorsement deal with Jon Rahm around the time the last version of the game was released, so having Rahm and other Callaway staff players represented authentically in the game is another appeal.

“Step one of getting a return on an investment in a player like Rahm is awareness,” Ganot said. “So making sure that people know that he’s a Callaway guy, a Topgolf guy, a TravisMathew guy, that’s critical for us. It’s brand building to a different audience. After all, it’s very possible that a majority of the people playing these games don’t watch golf on Saturday and Sunday.”

For 2K, adding real clubs and adorning players’ avatars with the logos they wear in real life brings another layer of authenticity to the game. To do it, companies send computer-aided design (CAD) files of their products to 2K along with samples of actual clubs. 2K inputs that information into its systems, sends different versions back to the companies for approval and presto: Gear that is on pro shop walls is also being swung by a virtual Justin Thomas and a digital version of someone sitting on his sofa in Portland, Oregon.

As for me, I beat Bubba Watson on Saturday morning but lost the tournament, then bounced back to win at TPC Deere Run and TPC Summerlin that night after the kids went to sleep. Hoarding my earnings, I’ll be heading to the virtual pro shop again soon.

October 2022 game releases: Upcoming titles being released this month

Plenty of new games coming this month.

The holiday season is fast approaching and the months are becoming so packed with new game releases that we need to get picky when compiling our monthly list of the best upcoming games.

October is bringing two sequels of huge first-person shooters, another Lego game where you actually build things, and a disturbing yet masterfully crafted body horror adventure.

Sports fans are getting the annual versions of the biggest licensed hockey and golf simulators, while Nintendo Switch owners have two exclusive releases to get excited about.

All in all, plenty of new games to go through as we unwrap our list of the biggest and best games releasing in October 2022.

PGA Tour 2K23 trailer: Fans can expect more than just Tiger Woods in the new game

There’s a new trailer for the game set to release in October.

Last week 2K announced Tiger Woods would be on the cover for PGA Tour 2K23, which is scheduled to release Oct. 11. This week the company offered a sneak peek at what fans can expect from the new game.

In its first release of the Clubhouse Report, a developer blog with information about the game, 2K announced new features and a trailer, “More Golf. More Game.”

The Clubhouse Report introduced a new swing option, some playable professionals, officially licensed courses, information on MyPLAYERS and Course Designer and more.

PGA Tour 2K23 Tiger Woods Edition and PGA Tour 2K23 Deluxe Edition are scheduled for release on Tuesday, Oct. 11. PGA Tour 2K23 Standard Edition will release three days later on Friday, Oct. 14. The standard edition is priced at $69.99, the deluxe edition is $99.99 and the Tiger Woods edition comes in at $119.99. PGA Tour 2K23 will be available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Steam.

There will also be 20 licensed courses at launch, including TPC Sawgrass, TPC Scottsdale and more. In addition, new courses added to the game include Wilmington Country Club South Course, site of last week’s BMW Championship, The Renaissance Club, which hosted the Genesis Scottish Open in July, St. George’s Golf and Country Club, and more.

Michael Jordan will be playable in PGA Tour 2K23

Tiger Woods and some up-and-comer named Michael Jordan will be available at PGA Tour 2K23’s launch this fall.

We finally know PGA Tour 2K23’s release date and which big-name athletes will be part of the series’ return. Spoiler alert: there’s a pretty random addition.

On Monday, 2K announced that PGA Tour 2K23 is coming out on Oct. 14, 2022, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, anyone who pre-orders the Deluxe or Tiger Woods Editions can play several days early on Oct. 11, 2022. Woods hasn’t been on the cover of PGA Tour 2K since 2013, so it’s a pretty big deal.

“It’s not only great to be back on the cover of a video game, but the Executive Director role makes this a truly unique opportunity,” Woods said in a press release. “2K is the perfect partner for me and I am excited to continue impacting the game and culture of golf beyond my play on the PGA Tour.”

There will be more than 14 playable professional golfers available at launch. Other notable names include Will Zalatoris, Tony Finau, Lydia Ko, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Lexi Thompson, and Brooke Henderson. Though none are quite as exciting as Michael Jordan — yes, 23 himself is in PGA Tour 2K23. He’s unlockable if you pre-order any version of the game as DLC. Wild that Jordan will be in this and NBA 2K23.

On top of all that, 20 officially licensed courses. Some examples are the South Course of Wilmington Country Club, The Renaissance Club, St. George’s Golf and Country Club, and plenty more. The course designer is back too, so there’ll be plenty of opportunities to make something special.

There hasn’t been an installment in this series since PGA Tour 2K21, which came out in 2020. So PGA Tour 2K23 is a homecoming of sorts.

PGA Tour 2K23 sets release date, to feature playable professionals

There will be three versions of PGA Tour 2K23.

Tiger Woods is back in the gaming industry.

For the first time in nearly a decade, Woods will grace the cover of a golf video game. PGA Tour 2K23 is set to launch in October with three editions. He and other professional men’s and women’s golfers will be featured as playable in-game characters, as well.

Woods is also an Executive Director advising the game development team.

“It’s not only great to be back on the cover of a video game, but the Executive Director role makes this a truly unique opportunity,” Woods said in a release. “2K is the perfect partner for me, and I am excited to continue impacting the game and culture of golf beyond my play on the PGA Tour.”

PGA Tour 2K23 Tiger Woods Edition and PGA Tour 2K23 Deluxe Edition are scheduled for release on Tuesday, Oct. 11. PGA Tour 2K23 Standard Edition will release three days later on Friday, Oct. 14.

2K first came into the golf video game sphere with PGA Tour 2K21, and though the game had numerous features that fans loved, like course designer, it didn’t offer gamers the chance to play as professionals.

That won’t be the case this year. Fans can tee it up with golfers like Woods, Justin Thomas, Tony Finau, Collin Morikawa, Will Zalatoris, Lexi Thompson, Lydia Ko and Brooke Henderson at launch. More will be added over time.

Players will also receive a Michael Jordan bonus pack, which comes with any pre-order of the game. The deluxe edition of the game includes the Michael Jordan bonus pack, the Golden Club pack, a hockey stick putter, a gold baseball cap and gold glove. The Tiger Woods Edition comes with all of the previous content plus unique cover art depicting Woods and more, including plenty of Woods’ swag to wear and use in game.

The standard edition is priced at $69.99, the deluxe edition is $99.99 and the Tiger Woods edition comes in at $119.99. PGA Tour 2K23 will be available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Steam.
