In plea to Jim Irsay, Colts fans petition against Jeff Saturday as next head coach

In a plea to Jim Irsay, Colts fans started a petition against Jeff Saturday as the next head coach.

The Indianapolis Colts have begun finalizing the process of hiring their next head coach, and Jeff Saturday is among the candidates being considered heavily.

However, a faction of the fanbase strongly opposes hiring Saturday as the next head coach to the point where a petition has been started by Shawn Ward with the headline “Don’t hire Jeff Saturday as head coach.”

Pleading to owner Jim Irsay, who was the sole factor in hiring Saturday as the interim head coach, Ward said this in his message on the Change.org petition:

“We as Colts fans will always love the memories of the SB XLI team; we love the former players and the people they’ve become, but we don’t want Jeff Saturday as the head coach of this team going forward.

Please hire someone with experience and save your fan base from revolting and losing interest.”

The decision to bring in Saturday as the interim head coach in the middle of the season without searching for any other replacement was bizarre and unprecedented in its own right.

What followed was a disastrous eight-game stretch to conclude the season, which showed the Colts playing at a historically poor level. They ended the campaign on a seven-game losing streak and had the second-worst point differential during that span.

Saturday is beloved by the fanbase from his playing days as Peyton Manning’s center. The nostalgia has worn off, though, for just about everyone outside of Irsay.

As of this writing, roughly 2,300 people have signed the petition. You can follow along for the latest updates with the head coach search via our tracker.

Saints fans launch petition asking team to fire Dennis Allen

Saints fans online launched a petition asking the team to fire head coach Dennis Allen after his hard-to-watch start to their 2022 season:

Well, the people are speaking. New Orleans Saints fans saw their team lose four games in five weeks and started a petition on Change.org asking that head coach Dennis Allen be relieved of his duties. More than 500 like-minded fans signed it as of 11:00 a.m. on Monday morning, with dozens more signatures flooding in.

It’s safe to say that a change would be popular with the fanbase after the Saints spent their summer talking up Allen and the strength of his roster only to start the season at 3-7. The petition was organized by Saints fan Jordan Cole, who made the case for Allen’s dismissal. Some of their points:

“Dennis Allen is 11-34 overall as a head coach. The Saints team under his watch have been an embarrassment. Dennis Allen has not shown the leadership it takes to be the head coach of the New Orleans Saints. And should be relieved of his duties. The Saints have become a disgrace an abomination and downright pathetic.”

Yeah, that’s tough to debate. Allen’s team has failed to compete week in and week out, and they just lost to a Pittsburgh Steelers team with an even worse record than them by double digits. Between a never-ending rash of penalties, inconsistent play in all three phases of the game, and a void of leadership where Allen’s influence should be, it’s clear that it’s time to move on and try something different. The only question is whether the Saints themselves recognize that.

Longhorns fans unhappy that Alabama-Texas might be a noon kickoff start petition

Longhorns fans are very serious about ensuring the Texas-Alabama Week 2 matchup is an evening kickoff.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Fox Sports will have the broadcasting rights to the mammoth showdown between the Texas Longhorns and Alabama Crimson Tide on Sept. 10, 2022. However, some fans were upset by the news because Fox typically airs the network’s weekly primetime game at noon eastern.

For starters, a mid-day kick-off in Texas in early September is brutal for both fans and players with an estimated 105-degree temperature on the field. Furthermore, these are two of the most prestigious football programs in all the land.

Texas fans have started a petition to make the week two game a night game, rather than the noon “primetime” slot for Fox. A primetime kick between these two would draw just about everyone.

This will be the first meeting between the two programs since the 2009 National Championship game.

Red River Rivalry: Sooner fans start petition to extend Tom Herman

The Oklahoma Sooners fans have taken this rivalry to the next step. They have started a petition for the Longhorns to extend Tom Herman.

As the mass exodus ensues with Quinn Ewers, Phaizon Wilson and Billy Bowman decommitting, there are a lot of uneasy feelings in Austin. Couple that with the recent transfer decision of Kenyatta Watson II and Byron Vaughns, there is a growing issue in Texas. Not everyone is hating what is going on. The Oklahoma Sooner fans have now entered the chat.

One such fan has started a petition for the Longhorns to in fact keep Tom Herman around despite his scorching hot seat. They are watching these players bail from their bitter rivals, even lining themselves up to land one of them in Bowman. So I guess you could say not everyone is unhappy these days.

Any time you see a rival team deal with any adversity, it is hard not to take some pleasure in it. The Longhorns have seen their fair share this season with the losses to Texas Christian and Oklahoma. Not to mention they struggled with Texas Tech early on in Big 12 play.

With Ewers now heading to Ohio State in all likelihood, it is fair to think he is going to take some top targets with him. Two that immediately come to mind are Caleb Burton, who is already trending with the Buckeyes, and Domani Jackson.

Not much of sunshine and daffodils in Austin right now but hopefully there is like at the end of the tunnel.

Quinton Dunbar asks court for permission to attend Seahawks camp

Cornerback Quinton Dunbar has petitioned the court for permission to leave the state of Florida to attend Seahawks training camp this summer.

Cornerback Quinton Dunbar may be able to attend Seattle Seahawks training camp this summer despite the original order preventing him from traveling out of state.

Dunbar was charged with four counts of armed robbery, which stemmed from an incident that was alleged to have occurred this May in the Miami area. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and a trial date has yet to be set.

One of the conditions of his release, however, was the mandate that he does not travel out of state while the charges are pending. He has now petitioned the court to do just that so he can join his teammates at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton. The motion was not opposed by the prosecution.

“Quinton Dunbar asks FL court for permission to travel outside the state so that he can attend training camp, which commences the last week of July in Washington,” Daniel Wallach tweeted Friday morning. “Motion is unopposed and notes that similar permission was granted to co-defendant DeAndre Baker.”

Seahawks training camp is set to kick off on July 28 and Dunbar is likely to be in attendance.

WATCH: Super Bowl Saturday? One teen’s petition gains traction in lead up to 49ers-Chiefs big game

A teenager wants to move the Super Bowl to Saturday, and thousands of people have signed a petition.

There is still more than a week to wait before the Chiefs and 49ers face off in Super Bowl LIV, but one teenager is using the time to take action for change.

No one enjoys getting up early the morning after the big game, but this year, the annual problem inspired 16-year-old Frankie Ruggerri to start a petition to have Super Bowl Sunday turned into Super Bowl Saturday.

As of mid-day Friday, the online petition had more than 35,600 signatures with the number increasing by the second.

Although there doesn’t seem to be any word from the NFL on the league actually making an adjustment based on the movement, the self-proclaimed Bills and Rams fan says that the life his petition has taken on is, “like if the Rams won the Super Bowl, pretty much.”

Frankie and his family told CNN that they do plan to watch San Francisco and Kansas City play on Feb. 2 despite the day of the week.

Petition with 220,000 signatures wants Michael Vick out as honorary Pro Bowl captain

A petition seeking Michael Vick’s removal as an honorary Pro Bowl captain has more than 220,000 signatures.

Sports fans are willing to forget and overlook a lot. One thing they will never get over, however, is Michael Vick’s involvement in a dog-fighting ring that landed the then-Atlanta Falcons quarterback in prison. The issue is back as a petition demanding Vick be removed as an honorary Pro Bowl captain has gotten a storm of signatures.

The 2020 NFL Pro Bowl will take place on Jan. 26 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. The other captains selected are Terrell Davis, Darrell Green and Bruce Smith. They are expected to serve a variety of roles, including as mentors to players during the game and participate in events leading up to it.

The petition was started on Change.org by a woman. It currently has more than 220,000 signatures.

“Just saw this on Facebook and was absolutely disgusted,” she wrote on the petition page, referring to a social media post about Vick’s inclusion. “When is the NFL going to take any responsibility for the behavior of it’s current and former players? To honor a man who had zero regard for animals is unacceptable and I would like your help to make sure he is not honored at the 2020 NFL Pro Bowl.”

Vick served 18 months in federal prison after admitting in 2007 that he participated in killing dogs and operated a business enterprise that involved illegal gambling. He was suspended by the NFL.

CNN reached out to the NFL, FOX Sports, which employs Vick, and the former quarterback’s representatives but did not receive a response as of this writing.
