Patriots Twitter reacts with calls for fire sale after Week 9 loss to Commanders

Patriots Twitter is calling for a complete fire sale of the team after Sunday’s disappointing loss to the Commanders.

The New England Patriots lost to the Washington Commanders by a 20-17 score on Sunday.

Quarterback Mac Jones had a chance to lead the team to a game-winning score, but his pass hit the hands of wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and popped into the air for a Commanders interception to close out the game.

Overall, it was a difficult day for the offense, as they accumulated only 327 yards in total. They only compiled 220 passing yards against a Washington defense that ranked as the fourth-worst team against the pass this season.

New England went 3-of-12 on third downs and could not get anything going consistently. Commanders quarterback Sam Howell also made things difficult for the New England defense, as he threw for 325 yards, one touchdown and one interception on the day.

Overall, it was a difficult game to watch for Patriots fans. Many were calling for wholesale changes after the loss.

Here are some of the best reactions on Twitter:

Patriots fans react to Raiders firing Josh McDaniels as head coach

Patriots fans are waking up and reacting to the news that Josh McDaniels has been fired as Raiders head coach.

The NFL world is waking up to the shocking news that the Las Vegas Raiders have fired both coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler late Tuesday night.

It was a short-lived run for McDaniels in his second head coaching tenure. Just like his run with the Denver Broncos, he failed to make it a full two seasons with a team.

The Raiders were coming off back-to-back losses to the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions and likely on the verge of another disappointing season with a 3-5 record. They finished third in the AFC West division last season with a pitiful 6-11 record.

McDaniels clearly has deep ties within the Patriots organization, and there will immediately be thoughts of him potentially returning in some capacity to either coach or serve as a senior offensive adviser in New England.

Patriots Twitter furious with 2-6 team standing pat at trade deadline

Patriots fans react to team not making any moves at the trade deadline.

Many expected the New England Patriots to be sellers by the trade deadline.

It made all of the sense in the world from a team-building perspective. The Patriots are 2-6 with likely no hope of contending in the AFC East division or even earning a playoff spot.

They have a poorly constructed roster, particularly on the offensive side that could use a significant reboot. Why not trade off expiring contracts of players, such as Josh Uche, Kyle Dugger and Mike Onwenu and rebuild the team accordingly?

Well, it takes two teams to make a trade. The Patriots could be considering bringing those players back in the offseason, and maybe they felt like there weren’t big enough offers out there to move some of their key players. There’s also the possibility that coach Bill Belichick doesn’t want to be in the business of tanking.

He’s going to try to save face by winning as many games as possible this season. The Patriots would rather go down fighting than abandon the sinking ship.

Of course, that isn’t sitting well with the hordes of fans growing impatient from what’s on pace to be the worst season in the Belichick era. Here’s what fans on Twitter were saying about the team’s decision to sit pat at the trade deadline:

Patriots Twitter reacts to Kendrick Bourne season-ending injury news

Patriots Twitter reacts to the devastating news that WR Kendrick Bourne is out for the season.

On Monday, it was announced that New England Patriots wide receiver Kendrick Bourne would be out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

This is a big hit to the team’s wide receiver room, and it takes away their most productive playmaker at the position.

Bourne was on his way to having another solid year. He had three catches for 36 yards and a touchdown against the Dolphins on Sunday. He had 37 catches for 406 yards and four touchdowns on the year. Now, the Patriots must look to replace his production in what is an already thin wide receiver room.

Patriots Twitter was saddened by the news, as the injury hits keep coming for New England.

Patriots Twitter growing restless after 31-17 loss to Dolphins

Frustrations are boiling over for Patriots fans after the team suffered its sixth regular season loss on Sunday.

The New England Patriots lost to the Miami Dolphins by a 31-17 score on Sunday.

It was a tough day for the Patriots defense, especially with Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa throwing for 324 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill also had a big day with eight catches for 112 yards and one touchdown.

There were some positives in the game.

Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne caught three passes for 36 yards and a touchdown prior to his injury, and safety Kyle Dugger had a strong showing, including snagging an interception on Tagovailoa.

On offense, the Patriots showed some fight late, but they faced many of the same issues with Mac Jones turning the ball over behind a struggling offensive line with limited offensive weapons.

Fans had varied emotions on Twitter, following the loss, as the Patriots dropped to 2-6 on the season.

Here’s how Patriots fans reacted after QB Malik Cunningham’s release

Patriots fans were not happy with the team for Tuesday’s surprising release of QB Malik Cunningham

News of Malik Cunningham’s release by the New England Patriots caught the fan base by surprise on Tuesday.

The backup quarterback had become somewhat of a fan-favorite during the preseason after displaying his skills as both a runner and passer under center. With the current version of the Patriots offense looking slow and outdated, there was hope that Cunningham could develop into the sort of new-aged quarterback to help spark the offense.

But the Patriots made the decision to waive the undrafted rookie after signing him to a three-year deal 10 days ago.

Keep in mind, Cunningham will return to the practice squad if he clears waivers. The coaching staff clearly likes him, and even Bill Belichick noted the significant strides and improvement he’s made behind the scenes.

The other teams in the league could have signed him off the practice in the first five weeks of the season, before he was promoted to the Patriots’ main roster. So there’s hope he’ll find his way back to New England after the waiver period.

However, that still didn’t quell the concerns of Patriots fans, who were clearly not happy about potentially losing Cunningham to another team. Here’s what people were saying after the move on Tuesday:

Newest excuse from DeVante Parker isn’t going over well with Patriots fans

DeVante Parker had a different take on his dropped pass after reviewing the film.

New England Patriots veteran wideout DeVante Parker has been taking some heat for his odd explanation for dropping a beautifully thrown ball by Mac Jones in the final drive of last Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Initially, Parker said the ball was on his fingertips, which some took as him insinuating it was an overthrown ball by Jones.

After having a chance to watch the film, Parker was back with a different explanation this time around. Now, he’s saying his arm was grabbed by the defender.

“I saw where dude’s hand kind of tugged my arm a little bit,” said Parker. “My right hand got there kind of late. So I wasn’t able to get a full grasp of it. I was able to see pics of it. …That kind of messed up the timing a little bit.”

Parker is seemingly talking about Raiders safety Marcus Epps, who was playing in coverage when the drop occurred.

The throw was an absolute dime from Jones that looked to land right on the money for Parker. Nothing egregious happened on Epps’ end, either, with the ball being thrown out of reach of the defender.

Perhaps Parker lost concentration tracking the ball when he was being covered. But even if that were the case, this is still a ball that should have been caught with the game on the line.

It doesn’t help matters that he’s been ice cold at receiver with only 22 receptions for 136 yards and no touchdowns. His first excuse created an uproar from Patriots fans, and his second attempt didn’t do him any favors.

Here’s what people were saying about Parker’s latest excuse:

Jakobi Meyers’ Monday night spectacle unleashes new wave of criticism for Bill Belichick

Former Patriots WR Jakobi Meyers led all Raiders receivers, including Davante Adams, in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns on Monday night.

It was salt in the wounds for New England Patriots fans on Monday night, watching Jakobi Meyers help lead the Las Vegas Raiders to their second win of the season.

The former Patriots receiver has made an immediate impact with the Raiders. Even after missing one game due to a concussion, he still has more receiving yards than anyone else on New England’s current roster right now.

He led the Raiders team as a whole, which also includes All-Pro receiver Davante Adams, in Week 5 with seven catches for 75 yards and one touchdown against the Green Bay Packers. Those numbers feed into an overall stat line of 36 catches for 274 yards and three touchdowns.

Another strong performance from Meyers didn’t do Patriots coach Bill Belichick any favors considering he chose to sign JuJu Smith-Schuster instead of paying to keep Meyers.

Meyers, who wanted to stay in New England, tweeted “cold world lol” after learning of his former team signing Smith-Schuster.

It’s an even colder world now for Belichick, who is sitting at 1-4 on the season and coming off two historically bad losses. In five games with the Patriots, Smith-Schuster has 14 catches for 86 yards.

There’s enough evidence out there that Belichick got this one wrong. And to make matters worse, the Patriots will have to face Meyers and the Raiders on Sunday.

Here’s what fans were saying about Belichick after Meyers’ big game against the Packers:

Patriots fans calling for Malik Cunningham to get QB reps after latest Mac Jones meltdown

Angry Patriots fans are calling for Malik Cunningham to get reps under center

Out of sight doesn’t mean out of mind when it comes to backup quarterback Malik Cunningham and the New England Patriots fan base.

Another meltdown performance from Mac Jones had coach Bill Belichick turning to backup quarterback Bailey Zappe for a second straight week as the replacement under center.

However, some Patriots fans would like to see the team take things a step further and play the undrafted rookie out of Louisville.

Cunningham left a strong impression in Week 1 of the preseason with his unique ability to make plays with the ball in his hands. When things broke down around him, Cunningham was able to scramble free and make plays on the run.

The Patriots cut Cunningham when whittling down their 53-man roster, but they did sign him back to the practice squad. He recently surfaced as one of the practice players of the week.

It’s clear the Patriots don’t have many great quarterback options at the moment between Jones, Zappe and Will Grier. That has prompted some to call for Cunningham to have his shot at playing under center.

Twitter shows no mercy after Patriots’ brutal loss to Saints

It was the biggest roasting session of the decade for the Patriots on social media after their shutout loss to the Saints

The New England Patriots lost to the New Orleans Saints by a 34-0 margin on Sunday.

New England looked completely outmatched in the game and dropped their second loss in a row. This was also their fourth loss on the season. The 1-4 start is their worst start since the 2000 season.

Quarterback Mac Jones was benched for Bailey Zappe for the second week in a row. The defense struggled as well, as running back Alvin Kamara had his way with the New England defense on the ground, rushing for 80 yards and a touchdown. It was a difficult game all around for a team still struggling to find its identity.

There were plenty of reactions on Twitter following the loss. Here are some of the best:
