The last ever Pac-12 Power Rankings see new team crowned as champion

The last ever Pac-12 Power Rankings see new team crowned as champion

The Pac-12 as we know it has turned off the lights and locked its doors. Next season, the twelve schools of this conference will be distributed across four different conferences around the country.

The final season of the Pac-12 did not disappoint. This year’s Washington Huskies and Oregon Ducks are two of the best teams the conference has ever seen, and Washington is off to represent the West Coast in the College Football Playoff.

The Ducks and the Huskies aren’t the only teams in the conference with football left to play though. 8 of the 12 teams in the conference have secured bowl eligibility for December. It was a beautiful season, but a sad one at the end with the finality that was ultimately brought for one of the most entertaining conferences in the nation.

Below, are my final rankings of the teams in this wonderful conference.

Pac-12 Power Rankings: The final week of Pac-12 play brings near chaos to the rankings

The final week of Pac-12 play brought near chaos, with Washington barely surviving an Apple Cup scare against Washington State.

The writing was on the wall for the Pac-12 before the 2023 football season began. This would be the final year of Pac-12 football as we know it, and it did not disappoint. With as many as eight Pac-12 teams being ranked in the AP Poll at a time, this was one of the most elite seasons the conference has ever seen.

The quarterback play across the Pac-12 was a big reason for its dominance. Bo Nix and Michael Penix are finalists for the Heisman Trophy, Caleb Williams and Shedeur Sanders are high NFL Draft prospects, and there are several young QBs around the conference who’ve shown tremendous promise in 2023.

On Friday, the Pac-12’s final game will be played: The conference championship between the Oregon Ducks and the Washington Huskies. Oregon and Washington have been the Pac-12’s best teams all season, and it’s only fitting that the bitter rivals will battle it out in Las Vegas for a spot in the College Football Playoff. It surely will be a great game to end on.

The final day of a full Pac-12 slate gave us a lot of great games, including a thrill ride in the Apple Cup that nearly ended the Huskies’ perfect season. In the end, it left us with these rankings for the conference in the final week of Pac-12 play:

Pac-12 Power Rankings: Ducks separate from the pack even more as UW downs OSU

The Oregon Ducks once again gained some separation from the rest of the pack after Week 11 in the Pac-12 Power Rankings.

The stage is set for the final two weeks of the year, and every team knows what lies in front of it.

For the Washington Huskies, a guaranteed spot in the Pac-12 Championship game helps, but they have aspirations much greater than that at this point. For the Oregon Ducks, a win on Friday against the Oregon State Beavers stands between them and a rematch against the only team that’s been able to beat them this year.

That’s what Saturday’s action left us with, with the Ducks again rolling to a blowout victory while Michael Penix and the Huskies were in a grind-it-out dogfight against the Beavers, ultimately coming away with a 2-point win.

It’s left us with very little change at the top of the Pac-12 power rankings, where the Ducks have now created even more separation from the rest of the pack as they continue to look like one of the best teams in the nation.

Here’s a look at the rankings after Week 11.

Pac-12 Power Rankings: Ducks remain on top; Colorado and Washington State continue free fall

Pac-12 Power Rankings: Ducks remain on top, while Colorado, Washington state enter free fall

It was a College Football Saturday that was ripe for upsets and chaos across the nation, but not much of that took place when all was said and done.

The major games out west were highlighted by the showdown between Washington and USC. While the matchup provided fireworks, the better team won. The Huskies left Los Angeles with a 10-point victory. The nightcap provided an upset with Arizona continuing its ascension to the top-tier of Pac-12 schools, and Colorado continued to flounder with yet another loss.

Elsewhere, Oregon dominated, Utah bounced back, and Washington State played one of the worst games of the season. It was quite a start to the month of November. Here are your Pac-12 Power rankings after Week 10 of the season:

Pac-12 Power Rankings: Ducks separate from Huskies as best team out west

Pac-12 Power Rankings: Ducks separate from Huskies as best team out west

We’re about to flip over from October to November, which in college football means that we’ve got a big enough sample size to know what each team is really giving us.

We also know enough to definitely say that the Oregon Ducks are the best team out west.

Dan Lanning and the Ducks once again impressed on Saturday, beating the No. 13 Utah Utes 35-6 in Salt Lake City, a place where Kyle Whittingham has lost just once in the last 30 games. Elsewhere in the Pac-12, the USC Trojans got pushed to the brink once again, barely holding on to beat California 50-49, and the Washington Huskies once again struggled to beat one of the worst teams in the conference, outlasting the Stanford Cardinal 42-33.

As the night-cap, the Arizona Wildcats pulled off the upset win over No. 11 Oregon State, winning 27-24.

Going into November, it feels like we have a clear picture of where the power lies in the Pac-12. Here’s our updated look at the conference power rankings leaving October:

It’s nights like these that we are going to miss oh so much when the Pac-12 leaves us after this season.

Nights when you’re tired after a full day of ingesting college football, and desperately want to go to bed. However, a way-too-close game between the No. 5 team in the nation and a team widely considered to be one of the worst teams in the nation is coming down to the wire.

It’s Pac-12 After Dark at it’s finest, and it’s something that we need to cherish while it’s still around.

Of course, the Washington Huskies ended up pulling out a victory despite failing to score an offensive touchdown vs. Arizona State, while the USC Trojans lost their third-straight game to the Utah Utes, this time on a game-winning field goal.

It was as entertaining of a day in the Pac-12 as ever, and it gave us a major shake-up at the top of our weekly Pac-12 Power Rankings:

Pac-12 Power Rankings: USC drops once again after 3OT escape vs. Arizona

Pac-12 Power Rankings: USC drops once again after 3OT escape vs. Arizona

Man, I’m going to miss the Pac-12.

I’m going to miss Pac-12 After Dark. I’m going to miss watching reigning Heisman winners go to triple-overtime against unranked teams. I’m going to miss watching coaches forget the rules of overtime. I’m going to miss all of the absolute insanity that takes place at 11 p.m. on a Saturday night, long after much of the country has gone to bed.

The USC Trojans’ triple-OT win against the Arizona Wildcats was a perfect display of what makes the Pac-12 great. I hope you stayed up to watch it, because it was entertaining until the final second.

It also gave us a great look at one of the perceived best teams in the conference, and how far they have to go before being real contenders in the nation.

The entire day of football was entertaining, and leaves us with a better sense of who the elite teams are out west. Here is our updated power rankings of the Pac-12 teams after Week 6:

Pac-12 Power Rankings: Ducks and Huskies separate into a tier of their own

The Ducks and Huskies are clearly in a tier of their own in the Pac-12, while USC leads WSU, OSU, and Utah in the next group.

Week 5 of Pac-12 football is complete, and the West Coast continues to dominate college football.

The most exciting results this week were USC’s narrow victory over Colorado and Utah’s offensive meltdown against Oregon State. The top three teams in the conference, Washington, Oregon and USC, played unranked opponents, which made it feel a little bit like the calm before the storm.

As we close September, each team’s identity is becoming solidified. That doesn’t mean there isn’t room for Utah or Oregon State to bring a late-season push for the conference championship, but we definitely have a better idea of who each team is.

Below are the Ducks Wire Week 5 Pac-12 power rankings:

Pac-12 Power Rankings: Ducks get Prime Time bump while Trojans’ defense drops USC

There was a ton of movement at the top of the Pac-12 Power Rankings this week. Oregon 📈 USC 📉

There was a lot of movement in the Pac-12 Power Rankings, which shouldn’t come as a surprise given that this was the first full week of conference play out west.

While we got a hyped-up matchup in Eugene, a battle of the little brothers in Pullman, and a low-scoring clas in Los Angeles, Week 4 delivered in the Pac-12, giving us a handful of thrilling games with near comebacks.

It also gave us a much clearer picture on where the hierarchy currently is in the conference. While the teams at the bottom stayed at the bottom, there was some movement at the top with a couple of squads shuffling around in the upper-tier.

Here are our latest Pac-12 Power Rankings after Week 4.

Pac-12 football power rankings after Week 3 of 2023 season

Eight #Pac12 teams are unbeaten through Week 3, but so many of their opponents look awful. Which team has the best resume? Look inside:

If you watched Week 3 of the 2023 college football season, you might have arrived at the conclusion that nearly every team is less than great.

Florida State played around with its food and very nearly lost to Boston College, a team which struggled with Northern Illinois and Holy Cross in previous weeks.

Texas was tied with Wyoming at home after three quarters.

Ohio State needed a full half before it finally turned on the engines and pulled away from Western Kentucky.

Michigan’s offense looked ordinary once again.

Penn State did what it had to do against Illinois, but little more. A 30-point performance won’t impress anyone.

Even Georgia struggled profoundly for a half against South Carolina before putting the game away in the fourth quarter.

Everyone has an opinion on which teams are the best, but in terms of actual results and actual performance, each week should bring forth a fresh reconsideration of rankings from scratch.

We’re not ranking based on projections or picks. We’re ranking based on current accomplishments against opponents played.
