Final 2023 Pac-12 baseball standings

The #Pac12 baseball regular season is over. Here’s how the final standings looked. The Pac-12 Tournament is next.

The USC Trojans were picked to finish 10th in the Pac-12 baseball standings in 2023. It was a natural, logical thing to do. It wasn’t even a sign of disrespect, merely a reflection of the program’s stagnation for several years. USC had not made the NCAA Baseball Tournament since 2015. The Trojans had fallen on hard times. They were bringing in a new coach, Andy Stankiewicz. Skepticism toward USC baseball was appropriate at the start of the season.

The Trojans had to prove they were for real before anyone predicted them to achieve more richly.

USC baseball has definitely done that, finishing in fourth place, six spots higher than the preseason forecast.

Let’s give you the full end-of-season Pac-12 Conference baseball standings. The top nine teams (Cal being ninth) qualified for the Pac-12 Tournament which starts on Tuesday in Scottsdale, Arizona. Check out the full tournament schedule for the coming week after you look at the standings below:

2023 Pac-12 Baseball Tournament schedule

The #Pac12 Baseball Tournament, with #USC as the 4 seed, begins Tuesday in Scottsdale, Arizona, and runs through Saturday.

The 2023 Pac-12 Baseball Tournament field and schedule are set. The event begins Tuesday at Scottsdale Stadium in Scottsdale, Arizona, and goes through Saturday, May 27.

It’s not a “clean” tournament bracket, meaning that winners do not automatically advance to play other known teams. Unlike basketball tournaments, this tournament involves three pools with round-robin play on the first three days of the tournament.

From the Pac-12 website:

“At the conclusion of pool play on Thursday night, the three pool winners will advance to the Friday single-elimination semifinals along with one Wild Card team. The Wild Card will be determined by the best record of the non-advancing teams with any tiebreaker awarded to the highest seeded team.

“The semifinal matchups will pit the highest-seeded team against the lowest-seeded team on one side with the second-highest seed and second-lowest seed on the other. Teams from the same pool however will not play each other in the semifinals.”

Here’s the full schedule, starting with pool play on Tuesday, May 23 from Scottsdale:

The #Pac12 baseball standings look different after #USC took 2 of 3 games from UCLA and won the weekend series vs the Bruins

If you missed it over the weekend, the USC baseball program did something very special. The Trojans won a home-field series against UCLA for the first time since 2005. That’s insane.

The point is not to emphasize how incredible it is that USC won a series from UCLA. That was surely impressive, but not extraordinary.

The crazy part is that it took 18 whole years for the Trojans to do it.

“The USC Trojans waited 18 long years for this moment, the moment when they could say they beat UCLA in a home-field baseball series. Has it been that long? Yes it has. It underscores how dark and difficult life has been for the USC baseball program. Now the clouds are beginning to part and the sunshine is flowing in,” we wrote on Monday.

Now the Pac-12 baseball standings look different. USC is in the top tier of the conference after huge wins on Saturday and Sunday.

USC baseball walks off UCLA in bottom of 9th, wins weekend series vs Bruins

Ripley’s Believe It or Not: This is #USC baseball’s first home-series win over UCLA since 2005. 18 years?! Wow!

The USC Trojans waited 18 long years for this moment, the moment when they could say they beat UCLA in a home-field baseball series. Has it been that long? Yes it has. It underscores how dark and difficult life has been for the USC baseball program. Now the clouds are beginning to part and the sunshine is flowing in.

USC, the school with more College World Series championships than any other in major college baseball, has fallen on very hard times over the past quarter of a century. However, first-year head coach Andy Stankiewicz is turning things around. Signs of that turnaround were apparent over the weekend. USC got punched in the mouth on Friday in Game 1 of the three-game set, but the Trojans bounced back to beat UCLA on both Saturday and Sunday to win the series and move upward in the Pac-12 baseball standings.

The series win was USC’s first home series win over UCLA at Dedeaux Field since 2005. The drought is over!

USC’s Cole Gabrielson knocked in the winning run with this walk-off hit in the bottom of the ninth, giving the Trojans a 6-5 triumph over the Bruins:

Pac-12 baseball standings: April 17

#USC had a tough weekend, getting swept at Oregon State. See how the Pac-12 baseball standings have changed.

The Pac-12 baseball season has plenty of attention now that basketball and football are not in the focus.

The Stanford Cardinal were on top of the conference last week in the standings, and this week the Arizona State Sun Devils have edged the Cardinal for the top spot.

There have been quite a bit of changes from a week ago, and four teams are under the .500 mark in Pac-12 play, with three teams winning 10 or more games so far.

There is a lot of baseball left, so a lot can change, but here are the latest standings for the Pac-12 Conference on the diamond.

Pac-12 baseball standings for April 10

Here are the latest #Pac12 baseball standings after the first full week of play in April.

The Pac-12 baseball season is hitting the midpoint. The top of the conference looks strong once again. All three of the top teams — Stanford, Arizona State, and USC — are separated by just one game.

On the other hand, the bottom of the conference has four teams with five or fewer wins and five teams below .500 in conference play. With some programs playing nonconference opponents this past week, there wasn’t a ton of movement in the standings from a week ago.

Here is a look at the updated Pac-12 baseball standings as the second week of April comes to an end.

Pac-12 baseball standings for April 3

#USC’s loss to Utah on Sunday puts the Trojans one game behind two teams in the loss column. It’s a fluid #Pac12 race.

USC baseball has enjoyed a bounce-back season to this point under first-year head coach Andy Stankiewicz. The Trojans are in the hunt for the Pac-12 title, and we will see over the course of the next several weeks if this team can remain in good form and get the strong pitching it needs.

USC lost to Utah on Sunday, but the Trojans won the series with wins on Friday and Saturday.

We wrote:

“The Trojans have delivered back-to-back shutouts against Utah, having won on Friday by a 4-0 score. Teams can’t bluff their way through baseball seasons without having good pitching. One can only win so many 10-9 games. The Trojans appear to have legitimately restocked their pitching, the central reason for their surge to the top of the conference.”

Those arms have to remain sharp. The month of April awaits.

Here are the Pac-12 baseball standings for April 3:

USC baseball rises to sole possession of first place in Pac-12

First-year coach Andy Stankiewicz has significantly improved the #USC program. Let’s see if this will be sustained.

The USC Trojans were not picked to finish first in the Pac-12 baseball standings this season. They weren’t picked to finish anywhere close to first. They weren’t picked to finish in the top half of the 12-team conference. They were picked to finish 10th.

Just over one month into the season, guess where the Trojans are? First place in the Pac-12. Outright. Alone. First-year head coach Andy Stankiewicz is surpassing all expectations, moving the program well ahead of schedule.

USC beat Utah on Saturday, 10-0, to win the weekend series against the Utes and move to 9-2 in the conference. Stanford is at 7-2 and Arizona State is 6-2.

The Trojans have delivered back-to-back shutouts against Utah, having won on Friday by a 4-0 score. Teams can’t bluff their way through baseball seasons without having good pitching. One can only win so many 10-9 games. The Trojans appear to have legitimately restocked their pitching, the central reason for their surge to the top of the conference.

Now we get to find out in April if the Trojans can maintain this run of form under Stankiewicz, who seems to be another home-run hire from athletic director Mike Bohn, who has already hired Lincoln Riley in football and Lindsay Gottlieb in women’s basketball.

Milone, Kasevich and Somers named to All-Conference baseball team

Brennan Milone, Josh Kasevich and Kolby Somers were all honored by the Pac-12 Conference with post-season awards.

The Pac-12 Conference announced its 35-player all-conference selections and the Oregon Ducks were able to have three names on the list.

Designed hitter/first baseman Brennan Milone, shortstop Josh Kasevich an closer Kolby Somers were all recognized for their efforts that helped the Ducks finish fourth with an 18-12 record and 35-21 overall.

Oregon is among the top 8 Pac-12 teams that will head down to Scottsdale, Ariz. to battle for the automatic NCAA tournament berth with the first annual conference tourney.

Milone, a transfer from South Carolina, showed early on his for being on the highlight film. He showed power right away and that the new dimensions for PK Park might be a plus for the Oregon program. Milone’s 10 homers contributed to the Ducks’ season record-breaking 71 dingers.

Kasevich isn’t the prototypical No. 5 hitter except that he usually gets that big hit in big situations. He also played a solid shortstop, committing just five errors at the most demanding defensive position on the diamond. Overall, Kasevich hit .311 with seven homers and 40 RBIs. He was also named to the All-Pac-12 Defensive Team thanks to that .979 fielding percentage.

Somers came into the season as one of the best closers in the conference and he showed it over and over in 2022. He finished the regular season with nine saves to go with a 5-3 record and a 2.97 earned run average.

Another Duck who could have easily been named an All-Conference performer, but instead was given an honorable mention was outfielder Anthony Hall with his .326 average, 13 homers and 47 RBIs. He also had 12 doubles and five triples.

If there was one “snub” it would be Tanner Smith, who wasn’t named to any list despite hitting .320 with 11 home runs, 11 doubles, 35 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases.
