Oregon vs Washington State Game Preview

Why Oregon Will Win

That’s the Oregon we all thought we were getting going into the season.

Getting rocked by Georgia – as it turns out – isn’t any big deal this season, but everyone abandoned the idea of the Ducks being good after the ugly 49-3 loss.

The 70-14 win over a not-bad Eastern Washington team from the FCS was good, the dominant 41-20 win over BYU last week was terrific.

The offense has been balanced over the last two weeks, Bo Nix has been solid, and the running backs are ripping off yards in chunks as the lines are taking over.

The offensive front has yet to allow a sack, it blasted away on the strong BYU defensive front, and it’s going to grind away on the Cougars.

However …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 4

Why Washington State Will Win

Oregon’s running game is good, and the offensive line is fantastic. Are either as tough or as nasty as the Wisconsin ground attack behind that offensive front? Close, but not really.

Washington State was able to hold up just fine against the bully, beating Wisconsin and it’s tough offense and great defense 17-14. It wasn’t pretty, but it found a way.

In this, Wazzu can pull this off by keeping everything moving. As good as the Oregon defense might be, it’s not able to come up with enough third down stops.

Georgia hit 9-of-10 third down tries, and Eastern Washington and BYU were able to connect on the money downs a bit too easily.

Week 4 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

Washington State has been tough enough on defense, and Cameron Ward is a good enough quarterback, to pull this off, but …

Oregon is the real deal.

That’s not to say Wazzu isn’t, but the Ducks have settled in, the talent is in place to make a big run, and they’ll overcome the great atmosphere and energy to get out alive thanks to a few key takeaways and a good offensive balance.

Oregon vs Washington State Game Preview

Why Washington State Will Win

A funny thing happened to Washington State after all of the Nick Rolovich drama – the team got better.

It dropped a tough game against BYU, but it won its last four Pac-12 games to be in a position to take the lead in the Pac-12 North race.

What’s going right under interim head coach Jake Dickert?

The defense has been solid against the run, it only allowed more than 400 yards overall in two of the last six games, and it’s doing a phenomenal job of controlling the clock on offense and taking the ball away on the other side.

It’s not about the firepower with Wazzu as much as it is about tempo. There’s no ground game to speak of, but the short-to-midrange passing game is clicking and the D has taken the ball away multiple times in every game but two.

The five takeaways against Arizona State two weeks ago were a big deal.

However …

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 11

Why Oregon Will Win

Oregon doesn’t have a turnover issue.

It’s not air-tight with the ball – QB Anthony Brown is lately good for one puzzling interception – but it’s not giving the ball away enough times to matter. There were a few issues against Cal and UCLA, but other than those two games the Ducks turned the ball over just four times in the other seven games.

Offensively, can Travis Dye keep this going? Washington State has allowed over 200 rushing yards four times on the year and lost three of them. Dye carried the Ducks against Washington with 211 yards, he ran for four touchdowns against UCLA, and he needs to be a steading force because …

NFL Expert Picks: CFN Week 10

What’s Going To Happen

Uhhhhhhh, Oregon, it’s time to actually start looking like the No. 3 team in the country.

You see what the CFP just did with Michigan and Michigan State? With Ohio State’s schedule ramping up, get ready for that unless the big impressive wins start coming.

The problem is that Washington State is just good enough to keep that from happening.

Oregon has the NFL defensive types and the all-around speed to keep the midrange quick-hitting passing game from going off, but this is about an offense that has to put away a game with easy.

Every Pac-12 game has been a bit too much of a fight, and this will be that, too, with a Brown interception costing the Ducks an early score and with Washington State constantly pressing with a few good scoring drives to stay in it.

Oregon will win with a good fourth quarter, but it’s not going to be what the College Football Playoff committee is looking for.

Why Oregon Will Win

It was a steady, solid performance in the 35-14 win over Colorado, considering the Ducks had so many key losses – including a budding superstar NFL QB in Justin Herbert – and with the a whole lot of rust needing to be shaken off.

Tyler Shough was great, the running game was dominant, and the team was steady throughout even though the Cardinal were able to move the ball a bit.

Now Shough – who threw for 227 yards and ran for 85 yards and a touchdown – gets to run through a Washington State defense – should be able to keep everything moving.

Week 11 Schedule, Predictions, Lines

Why Washington State Will Win

The Cougars were almost perfectly balanced against Oregon State. They weren’t able to bomb away like the program is used to – Jayden de Laura is going to need a while, but he was able to throw for 227 yards and two scores – and the ground attack got a great day from the O line on the way to 229 yards.

Oregon did a lot of things right against Stanford, and Washington State doesn’t have the same talent on the offensive front, but it did nothing behind the line. The Cougars will work quickly and efficiently, and they’ll keep pressing.

CFN College Football Experts Picks

What’s Going To Happen

Washington State is going to keep pressing.

Oregon will generate more of a running game on the Cougars than Oregon State did, and it’ll be steady for a full four quarters to have control of the game, but again, the other side won’t go away.

Wazzu will score enough to make Oregon keep pressing, but turnovers will become an issue. The Ducks will be a +2 in turnover margin to pull away in the second half.
