Ohio State defender announces transfer destination

Where is this former four-star heading? #GoBucks

Last month, former four-star recruit Omari Abor announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal. Now we know he is going back home to Texas. Abor announced he plans to play for the SMU Mustangs next season.

Abor still has multiple years of eligibility left, considering he was a part of the 2022 recruiting class. He is a potential impact player for SMU — sooner rather than later. Abor dealt with injuries that slowed him since arriving in Columbus, Ohio, but he played in two games this season and in one game as a true freshman.

This feels like a good spot for Abor. He gets to play closer to home and will likely get an opportunity to see the field faster for SMU. He would have had to fight for a spot on the depth chart at Ohio State.

Former four-star Ohio State recruit to enter transfer portal

Former four-star Ohio State recruit enters the transfer portal

The offseason has already begun for the Ohio State Buckeyes football team and the transfer portal news is firing up. Our first Ohio State entry into the portal is former four-star edge defender Omari Abor.

It is a bit sad to see the standout from Texas enter the portal because he was an exciting piece of that 2022 recruiting class. Unfortunately, he has struggled with injuries since his arrival on campus. Abor is still very young with multiple years of eligibility remaining, but he has opted to transfer, likely seeing the lack of opportunity for consistent playing time for the Buckeyes.

Abor saw a few snaps early in the 2022 season before missing the remaining games with a knee injury. His bad luck continued during the 2023 preseason when another injury forced him to have surgery. He was able to see the field in garbage time of a few contests. Although it is premature to assume where Abor might end up, my money is on him heading back home to Texas.

Current Ohio State defensive ends and their 247Sports rankings

Current Ohio State defensive ends ranked by the 247Sports composite #GoBucks

TheĀ Ohio State football team has seven defensive ends on scholarship and all were relatively high recruits based on their 247Sports recruiting rating. Going through the list of edge rushers on the Buckeye roster will blow your mind at how high they were ranked recruiting-wise, which makes me think two things. One is how bright the future is and the other is wondering why the pass rush was so lackluster last season.

Despite all the negativity surrounding the defense last season as it looked even more inept against Michigan, this defensive line is filled with a ton of talent and that is especially true when looking at the edge rushers. There are obvious names like J.T. Tuimoloau who had flashes of brilliance, as evidenced against Penn State, but just like the defense as a whole, Tuimoloau needs to be more consistent. The next stud in line is Jack Sawyer who has had even fewer flashes but has been moved around from position to position and maybe will play at a different level in 2023.

Here are all of the recruiting rankings of the current Ohio State defensive ends on the roster for 2023.

Ohio State freshman Omari Abor has black stripe removed

Welcome to the brotherhood Omari Abor! #GoBucks

It’s late in the season for this, but another Ohio State freshman has lost his black stripe. Omari Abor was officially welcomed to the brotherhood today as his black stripe was removed.

Abor was a highly touted edge rusher coming to OSU in the 2021 recruiting cycle. He was ranked as a top 100 player and the No. 6 edge rusher in the class according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Abor was able to see action in one game this season against Arkansas State before injuring his knee and sidelining the young man for the remainder of the season. The Duncanville, Texas native has worked hard to rehab the injury and get back on the field.

The newest member of the rushmen thanked his teammates and coaches after finding out about the honor. Check out the post from the Ohio State football Twitter account below.

The Buckeyes are currently preparing to take on the defending National Champion Georgia Bulldogs in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 31 in Atlanta.

Ohio State football issues availability report for Rutgers game, notable names missing

Ohio State football issues availability report for Rutgers game, notable names missing #GoBucks

The Ohio State football program has issued the availability report for the game against Rutgers, and there are a few notable names that will not be taking part in game No. 4.

With the game under Wisconsin under its belt, Ohio State has a few guys that were bumped and bruised against the Badgers, but most of the names on the list just transitioned over from the previous week. The most notable name on this list is star wide receiver, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who is listed as unavailable for today.

At this point it is getting concerning that Jaxon Smith-Njigba is still not active, but this may have less to do with his injury and more to do with Rutgers being inferior.

Top ten Ohio State football recruits in the 2022 class

Top ten recruits in the 2022 class that could make an impact this season, and their scouting reports. #GoBucks

The 2022 college football season is coming up and even though most of the focus is on the returning studs like C.J. Stroud, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Paris Johnson Jr. — and rightfully so — it is still always fun diving into the possible future of the program.

Ohio State snagged a consensus top-five recruiting class and added a number of studs, and despite the defense playing less than ideal ball last season, they still snagged a number of playmakers on that side of the ball too. We here at Buckeyes Wire have been working all summer on some of the top recruits in this class and the following are the top five and a link to their scouting report.

Enjoy looking through what is widely considered the top ten commits that are incoming freshmen and the skinny on each for the 2022 season.

Ohio State football class of 2022 scouting report: Omari Abor

Ohio State football class of 2022 scouting report: Omari Abor #GoBucks

The recruiting cycle for 2022 is in the books. The Ohio State Buckeyes had aĀ consensus top-five class in the countryĀ and are considered the No. 1 class in the Big Ten by a wide margin. It is no secret Ohio State had some struggles and the defensive line was less than spectacular, but the Buckeyes added some serious juice to the defensive front during this recruiting cycle.

It should be noted for those that are not familiar, recruiting classes are not like NFL draft classes. Many of these players will not see time as freshmen and will likely be redshirted. Itā€™s also true that in the age of the transfer portal it is likely several players from this class will not be here at the end.

I wanted to at least take a dive into some of the top studs and weā€™ll start at the top of theĀ recruiting classĀ with defensive end, Kenyatta Jackson, and we have already previously dived intoĀ C.J. Hicks, Devin Brown and Kenyatta Jackson.

Four-star 2022 edge rusher Omari Abor officially signs with Ohio State

It’s official for one of the best edge rushers in the 2022 recruiting cycle. #GoBucks #NSD

It’s national signing day y’all, but it’s no longer the drama-filled, intense flurry it once was. That’s because the early signing period kind of stole the thunder of what used to be one of the biggest recruiting days on the calendar.

For Ohio State, it should be relatively drama-free. OSU was only expecting to get two official national letters of intent from two players that have already verbally committed and that has held true so far.

One of those players, 4-star 2022 edge rusherĀ Omari Abor sent in his national letter of intent Wednesday morning to make it all official. There’s always a slight chance that a kid of his caliber gets flipped at the last moment, but not on this day. Out of Duncanville, Texas, Abor is ranked as the No. 6 edge rusher and 62nd overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

And now, he’s a Buckeye, choosing Ohio State overĀ Alabama and LSU.

We know defensive line coach Larry Johnson andĀ new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles can’t wait to get to work developing a kid that has all kinds of skill and tools to become one of the next fierce pass rushers for the Ohio State program.

BOOM! Four-Star, Omari Abor commits to Ohio State

Ohio State adds another good one to the defensive line for 2022! #GoBucks

Four-star recruit, Omari Abor, The No. 4 edge rusher in the 2022 class according to 247 Sports composite ratings, has picked Ohio State as his destination of choice.Ā The Texas native choose the Buckeyes overĀ Alabama,Ā LSU,Ā Texas,Ā and Texas A&M.

Abor is a nice grab for OSU and Ryan Day. Currently, Ohio State has only two signees on the defensive line and only one other defensive end in Kenyatta Jackson. The highly sought-after edge rusher stated that the way defensive line coach, Larry Johnson, develops players was a big factor in choosing the Buckeyes.

Recruiting analyst, Gabe Brooks of 247Sports compares Abor to NFL defensive end Bradley Chubb and projects him as a future second-round NFL draft pick. Abor possesses good get-off burst, but has room to grow. With Coach Johnson leading the way, he most certainly will.

Abor’s commitment gives Ohio State 20 recruits in the 2022 class, which includes transfer DeaMonte Trayanum from Arizona State. Ā The Buckeye’s class currently sits at No. 4 according to 247Sports.
