Kaylyn Brown and the USA mixed 4x400m relay team broke a world record… in an Olympic heat

Kaylyn Brown was GONE.

Kaylyn Brown ran so fast in the mixed 4×400-meter relay that the other runners never stood a chance.

I won’t even pretend to understand what kind of speed you have to possess to be on an Olympic track and field relay team. But, apparently, Team USA has a lot of it. They were already well on their way to likely winning a 4x400m relay race when Kaylyn Brown ran the anchor leg of her life Friday.

As she rounded the corner of the final stretch, the crowd went absolutely wild. (To be honest, I might have, too, if I was in the stadium.) LOOK HOW FAST SHE WAS RUNNING. What’s more, Kaylyn’s incredible burst helped Team USA land a new world record— during a preliminary heat. Incredible stuff. Well done, Kaylyn and crew.

Who is the greatest player of all time for the San Antonio Spurs in the Olympics?

One name in particular stands out.

Who is the greatest player of all time for the San Antonio Spurs in the Olympics? An intriguing question on its face, Bleacher Report NBA analyst Andy Bailey recently took a stab at answering the question of which player for every ball club in the league is their respective Olympics G.O.A.T.

Using an admittedly subjective standard for his assessment given “how sparse statistical analysis of these games are,” Bailey has a fairly obvious player in mind for San Antonio’s Olympics G.O.A.T. — Manu Ginobli, who “appeared in four different Olympics” for his native Argentina over the course of his career as a player.

“Over those 29 games, he averaged 18.0 points, 3.7 assists and 2.1 3s, while shooting 59.0% on 2s and 39.2% from deep,” adds the B/R analyst.

“He won two medals, and of course, was one of the leaders of Argentina’s golden generation,” recounts Bailey.

“In 2004, Manu’s country was the last one standing, thanks largely to his 19.3 points and 40.5 3-point percentage.”

Taking a closer look at San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama in the 2024 Paris Olympics

Is the French swingman making Team France a legitimate threat to beat the mighty US National Team?

Rising San Antonio Spurs star forward Victor Wembanyama has been turning heads in his rookie season in the NBA after rocketing up to the league’s elite defenders in his inaugural campaign in the Association. And for good reason, given how much he is already impacting the play on the floor on both ends.

But how is Wemby changing the fortunes of the French National Team in the 2024 Paris Olympics medal race for 5-on-5 basketball? Is the French swingman making Team France a legitimate threat to beat the mighty US National Team? Will he ever, if he keeps developing at this pace?

To talk it over, the host of the “Locked On Spurs” podcast, Jeff Garcia, got together with San Antonio Sports Star’s James Pledger on a recent episode of their show.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say about Wemby in the Paris Olympics.

Team USA 3×3 hooper Rhyne Howard launched the coldest OT game-winning shot against Canada

Rhyne, please. Those women have families.

Happy Friday to Rhyne Howard and to Rhyne Howard only.

For days, we’ve wondered why Team USA 3×3 basketball teams have been so bad. There are a number of factors, but suddenly, things are grooving and moving right along. The women’s team lost its first three games of pool play but has now won three straight thanks to some seriously gritty effort.

The team won two matchups Friday, including a back-and-forth thriller with Canada that went into overtime. During extra play, Canada scored very quickly by drawing the U.S. to one area and backdoor cutting to the basket for an easy score. But on the next play — with a body all over her — Rhyne Howard DRAINED a game-winning two-point heave. SWISH. BOOM. BANGGGG. EAGLE SCREECHES. HELLO, USA. HELLO, HUGE WIN.

The shot was absolutely filthy and simply incredible because Howard has been ice-cold from two-point land, but she nailed a shot when it counted.

Fans were super impressed with the bucket and started dropping all kinds of celebratory tweets on social media.

Hayes: Shaw and Davidson game-time decisions for USWNT Olympic quarterfinal

The U.S. duo are both aiming to recover from injuries

U.S. women’s national team head coach Emma Hayes will wait until the last minute to determine the status of Tierna Davidson and Jaedyn Shaw for Saturday’s Olympic quarterfinal against Japan.

Davidson was forced out of the team’s 4-1 win over Germany after suffering a knee contusion, and missed the team’s group-stage finale against Australia.

Meanwhile, Shaw suffered a “leg injury” in training the day before the team’s Olympic opener against Zambia, and has missed all three of the team’s games thus far.

On Friday, Hayes was unable to make a determination on either player, telling reporters that she would make a late decision on the pair.

“There’s not a big turnaround. I’m going to leave it for as long as possible,” Hayes said in quotes on The Athletic. “I’ve got another 24 hours, so the injury update is touch and go, but I’m gonna give it the maximum amount of time to see if either one of them are available.”

Davidson is suffering from swelling after a knee-on-knee collision with Germany’s Jule Brand.

“She’s recovering really really well,” Hayes said on the center back. “It’s just, is there going to be enough time?”

In Davidson’s absence, Emily Sonnett has been filling in at center back alongside Naomi Girma.

Shaw has been replaced on the gameday squad by Croix Bethune for all three of the team’s matches in France thus far. The Washington Spirit rookie made her Olympic debut in the second half of the USWNT’s 2-1 win over Australia.

Jets Aaron Rodgers hopes to be on Team USA in the Olympics

Aaron Rodgers wants to be an Olympian.

Aaron Rodgers is hoping to add a gold medal to a career that will undoubtedly end with enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The New York Jets quarterback made the admission that he hopes to participate in the Olympics in 2028. The sport?

Flag football.

Rodgers talked with Kay Adams this week from Jets training camp. Invariably, the topic of All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams potentially reuniting with Rodgers came up…because, of course, it had to.

It was in this conversation talking about playing with Davante Adams again that that Rodgers wove in the idea of playing flag football in the Olympics.

“I’d love to play with Davante again, it might be in the, you know, 2028 Olympics if they let some of the old guys go out and play but we’ll see,” Rodgers told Kay Adams.

“I want him to have great success – I love him. We keep in contact – mostly about golf, because he’s a fanatic about golf.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo inspired the best reaction from his brother Thanasis during Greece’s Olympic win

The Antetokounmpo brothers are excellent teammates for each other as well.

Greece men’s basketball secured a crucial victory over Australia during group play of the 2024 Paris Olympic, defeating Australia on Friday.

Led by two-time NBA MVP and former NBA Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo,  he led either team in scoring finishing with a game-high 20 points (8-of-11 FG) during the contest. He also added 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals.

It was a fantastic all-around performance from the Milwaukee Bucks superstar and it inspired a wonderful reaction from his teammate and older brother Thanasis Antetokounmpo (who has played for Greece’s national team since 2016.

Even though he did not step on the court during the match, he was among the loudest cheerleaders in the building with support for his brother:

Sabrina Ionescu’s 3-point crowd silencer against Belgium had her USA basketball teammates in awe

Sabrina Ionescu’s shot was so COLD that even her teammates were stunned.

Sabrina Ionescu casually tossing up a dagger 3-point shot as time expired was so on-brand.

In case you missed it, Team USA women’s basketball has looked pretty good in its opening slate of pool play games, including during a slugfest Thursday with Belgium. Breanna Stewart and A’ja Wilson seemingly steamrolled nearly everyone on the court as the U.S. kept the gas pedal to the floor to secure a huge win.

Late in the fourth quarter, the U.S. tried to run the clock out while Belgium attempted to close the gap a bit. However, the team was informed it had to shoot the ball. So, Sabrina casually heaved a 3-point shot and BANG. NOTHING BUT NYLON. SWISH. (You get it.) Ionescu immediately put up the “hush” sign, producing a glorious Olympic moment and one COLD photo.

As you might guess, her teammates loved every bit of the shot. The different angles of them realizing what she did are fantastic.
