Alabama quarterback awaits offer from the Crimson Tide

Top Alabama quarterback is still waiting on an offer from the Tide.

All eyes are on the top quarterback in the 2023 class Arch Manning, but in-state prospect Christopher Vizzina is still waiting on an offer from Alabama.

The four-star quarterback from Birmingham has been picking up steam as of late with a recent offer from the Ohio State Buckeyes. He also holds an offer from the other half of the Iron Bowl, Auburn. Still, Vizzina wants to check out Tuscaloosa and speaks with Freddie Roach a lot.

“They haven’t offered me yet,” Vizzina said. “Pretty much everyone else has but them. I talk to coach (Freddie) Roach all the time. I’m not really sure where their interest level is at this point. I know they are high on (fellow 2023 QB prospect) Arch Manning. I’m not sure where I fit on their board. But I’d love to take a visit there and see what they have to say.”

It could be a domino effect for the top quarterback in the state of Alabama. Once the movement becomes clear for Arch Manning, we could see a late push for Vizzina. The Alabama Crimson Tide is pushing for the No. 1 passer in the 2023 class but they have some stiff competition.

Along with Alabama, the Ole Miss Rebels, Georgia Bulldogs, and Texas Longhorns are all in the running. Most recently the LSU Tigers and Florida Gators have gotten into the mix with their new staffs led by Brian Kelly and Billy Napier.

For now, it could be a wait-and-see approach for Christopher Vizzina.

Fox likely to get Notre Dame-Ohio State game in exchange for Joe Buck

Would you rather see this game produced by Fox or ESPN?

Much already has been made about Notre Dame opening the 2022 season at Ohio State, Marcus Freeman’s alma mater. Now, it appears the game has been involved in Joe Buck’s decision to leave his longstanding job at Fox for ESPN, mainly to call “Monday Night Football”. In exchange for allowing Buck to walk, Fox will be able to select one Big Ten game for the upcoming season. Awful Announcing is reporting that Fox likely will select the Irish-Buckeyes matchup as that game.

This isn’t the first time there has been a prominent exchange involving a high-profile sports announcer. When Al Michaels left his longtime post at ABC in 2006 to call “Sunday Night Football” for NBC, Disney acquired the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, which Walt Disney lost the rights to before he created Mickey Mouse. It just goes to show that when someone has been at the head of your network’s sports broadcasts for a long time, you won’t just allow the competition to get something for nothing.

Watch: Notre Dame quarterback Pyne preparing for spring battle

This battle will be intense

The Irish played three quarterbacks during last season, with Jack Coan getting the lions share of snaps when healthy. It was Tyler Buchner and Drew Pyne getting the other reps and each of them showing flashes of their future potential.

Pyne got into two games, Wisconsin and Cincinnati, while Buchner got reps in five games, playing more but not really much as a passer. Each of them threw for less than 300-yards on the year, but Buchner’s legs gained 336-yards showing he is a true dual-threat.

With Coan moving on, this spring will be very telling as to which quarterback will take the first snap against Ohio State in the season opener. Pyne however, is training like he wants to be the starter. In a tweet by QB Country, it looks like Pyne isn’t just going to succeed the job to Buchner in the coming weeks.

Spring practices begin on the 27th of this month and after 14 practices it concludes with the Blue and Gold game. We will all soon have a much better idea of who Marcus Freeman is leaning to be his starter come September 3rd.

Huge new offer for top Clemson Priority QB target

A big-time Clemson target in the 2023 class picked up a huge new offer on Thursday.

Briarwood Christian School (Birmingham, Ala.) four-star quarterback Christopher Vizzina announced via social media that he has received an offer from Ohio State.

Vizzina (6-4, 207) was in Columbus for visit with the Buckeyes on Thursday. He is ranked as the No. 7 quarterback and No. 51 overall prospect in the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite.

Vizzina earned an offer from Clemson back on Nov. 20 while on campus for the Wake Forest game and returned to Tiger Town in late January as the only quarterback in attendance for the program’s elite junior day.

“What I wanted to do on this visit — going into it — I wanted to see the actual university and actually get to spend time with the coaches I’d spend time with,” Vizzina told The Clemson Insider. “Clemson really did that. I got to see the new business school and spend time with the coaches I’d actually spend time with. I think they did a really good job of setting it up for me. It was a very memorable visit.”

Along with Clemson and Ohio State, Vizzina has visited Ole Miss and Tennessee this year.

All of the CFN Fearless Predictions

On3 views Texas RB Bijan Robinson as a Heisman contender

He’s the only non-QB in the top three.

Texas’ offense is oozing with firepower for the 2022 season, and is expected to get the program moving in the right direction after last season’s debacle.

The Longhorns finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 5-7 record and were left questioning what went wrong. This offseason, Steve Sarkisian and his staff put together a fantastic recruiting class and also added a slew of elite transfers that will provide a boost on both the offense on defense.

However, the Longhorns also have the pleasure of returning who could be considered the best running back in college football, Bijan Robinson. He finished his sophomore season with a 1,127 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns, while also adding four receiving touchdowns.

Robinson was also garnering Heisman hype during Texas’ first few games of the 2021 season, but obviously as the team began to struggle that faded. He also missed the last few games due to an elbow injury.

On3 released their top Heisman candidates for the 2022 season on Wednesday, and at the No. 3 spot was Texas’ star running back.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca46Ylal3mr/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

The only two players ahead of Robinson were the 2021 Heisman winner Bryce Young, and CJ Stroud who was a Heisman finalist.

For a running back to win the Heisman, they would need an absolute magical season that shatters every record in sight. Michigan State’s Kenneth Walker was on a tear in 2021 and wasn’t even a finalist.

If anyone could achieve this, it would be Robinson, as he has been among the best running backs since he graduated high school.

Saints land a top-tier receiver in Todd McShay’s mock draft

The Saints landed a top-tier wide receiver in Todd McShay’s latest 2022 NFL mock draft:

[mm-video type=video id=01fxnf86ggj1a7vp0r57 playlist_id=01eqbyahgz6p2j3xp7 player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fxnf86ggj1a7vp0r57/01fxnf86ggj1a7vp0r57-ca05b457bab50ddd26a4bfc9618aab6a.jpg]

We’re more than a month away from the 2022 NFL draft, but some consensus is beginning to build for expert takes on where the New Orleans Saints may go in the first round. Wide receivers run deep in this draft class and the Saints are frequently projected to take one of the best pass catchers available. In his latest mock draft for ESPN, Todd McShay has the Saints acquiring Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Chris Olave. Here’s what he wrote of the match:

“Quarterback is super tempting, especially with Liberty’s Malik Willis still sitting on the board. We know Taysom Hill isn’t the answer, but I do think Jameis Winston goes back to New Orleans in free agency and puts at least a short-term solve on the Saints’ signal-caller woes. But who is he throwing to? Michael Thomas hasn’t been able to stay healthy, and two of the team’s top three wide receivers from 2021 — Tre’Quan Smith and Deonte Harris — are free agents. Olave, meanwhile, is a silky smooth runner with 4.39 speed and great acceleration — and he scored at least once in nine of 11 games last season. Winston (or whoever ends up under center) would immediately have a reliable downfield target.”

I can only speak for myself, but to me Olave is the best receiver in this draft class. His college resume is unimpeachable: he appeared in 38 games, scoring 35 touchdowns and catching 175 receptions for 2,702 receiving yards. He led the Buckeyes in receiving yards in 2019 and 2020, with teammates Garrett Wilson and Jaxon Smith-Njigba benefiting from the attention he demanded defenses commit to him in 2021.

And that production was paired with a solid performance at the NFL scouting combine in which Olave timed the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds. He’s not the biggest or most explosive receiver around, but the work he’s put in to refining his routes and his straight-line speed make him a threat to score on every down. Olave hasn’t posted the extreme Relative Athletic Score that lines up with New Orleans’ standards, but he’s awful close (and he hasn’t finished testing), so don’t overthink it.

That’s an ideal pairing for Michael Thomas, who has done his best work underneath the coverage as an automatic first down conversion for his quarterbacks. With defenses focused on guarding Thomas, Olave can fly downfield. When they respond to Olave’s presence Thomas gets more room to work with. Both players win, and it’s worth remembering the relationship Thomas is already cultivating with Olave as a mentor.

But, hey, it’s March. Free agency hasn’t begun yet. We don’t know what the Saints’ top team needs will look like on draft day. If they add a couple of receivers in free agency, the position becomes a luxury and Olave, or any other pass catcher, may not be considered once New Orleans is on the clock. Maybe the Saints start to look harder at quarterbacks, safeties, or left tackles should Jameis Winston, Marcus Williams, or Terron Armstead leave for better opportunities. We’ve still got a ways to go.

Texas star wide receiver has Notre Dame in his top group

The Irish are in the top group

The Irish have been doing a great job recruiting for the 2023 class, especially on the defense side of the ball. What is needed however, are big time playmakers on the offensive side of the ball.

Texas wide receiver Braylon James is a target for Notre Dame and Marcus Freeman got some very good news. James named his Top 9 schools which included Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, TCU, Texas A&M, LSU along with the Irish and a few others.

It will be difficult for the Irish to pull James away from his region, he visited LSU today and has three of his home state schools in his top group.

There is still hope, as two of his top 9 are Midwest school and the key for Freeman will be to get James to South Bend for an official visit.

6 risers and fallers from WR workouts at the NFL combine

The Saints are sure to be watching wide receivers at the combine. Chris Olave and Christian Watson helped themselves, while others took a tumble, via @RossJacksonNOLA:

The NFL scouting combine kicked off Thursday night with wide receivers, quarterbacks, and tight ends taking center stage. It was the wideout group that stole the show with blazing 40 times and impressive showings of athleticism. While some pass catchers might have driven their stock up, others could their names slip down early boards after the first night of action. Either way, the New Orleans Saints are sure to be keeping a close eye on this class, so here are seven risers and fallers among the wide receiver group

Notre Dame seniors’ best scoring games at Purcell Pavilion

Take a look back at these memorable performances.

Notre Dame’s graduating class will get one final opportunity to show itself off during senior day at Purcell Pavilion. Although there still will be a few meaningful things to play for against Pittsburgh, the significance of day shouldn’t be lost on any of them. After all, graduating players get only one opportunity to be honored for their years of service to the program, so this is the time to let it all soak in.

Over the past few years, the Irish’s six seniors and one graduate student have had plenty of opportunities to put points on the Purcell Pavilion scoreboard. Some efforts have produced better results than others. As they prepare to take their home court for the last time, let’s take a look at the scoring performances that they haven’t been able to top. Maybe one of these games will be replaced by this upcoming one, but this is their last chance to top themselves in South Bend.
