An early look at Ohio State football’s 2023 schedule

A way-too-early look at each Ohio State football game for 2023. #GoBucks

If you are like me, you’ve gone through about five different instances from the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and asked the questions “what if,” and “how” on several occasions. Ohio State had the game won against Georgia but fell just short because of a litany of bad breaks and one missed field goal. As a result, the Buckeyes’ season came to an end after two-straight losses.

But fear not. The 2023 season will be here before you know it and there’s a better-than-good chance that Ohio State will be a preseason top-five team once again. Another run toward a Big Ten championship and College Football Playoff appearance should be in the scarlet and gray cards.

In fact, it feels like a good time to look ahead to the OSU football schedule for 2023 and provide an early narrative of each game as we start the slow build toward next season at the Ohio State football factory.

Ten takeaways from Ohio State’s lopsided win over Wisconsin

Ten takeaways from a long night in Columbus

The battle of the Big Ten East and Big Ten West favorites was over before it started on Saturday night in Columbus.

Before Wisconsin could take a breathe, Ohio State had a 7-0 lead thanks to a six-play, 88-yard lightning strike to begin the evening. The first Wisconsin pass of the evening? Undoubtedly the worst toss of Graham Mertz’s young season as he missed Chimere Dike by a country mile and found the unwelcoming arms of Ohio State cornerback Tanner McCalister.

When the dust settled after 15 minutes, Wisconsin was facing a seemingly insurmountable 21-0 lead.

How did everything unravel within the opening frame, and what can we take away from an Ohio State masterclass? Here are ten takeaways from a night to forget in Columbus:

BadgersWire Staff Predictions: Wisconsin at Ohio State

The Badgers and Buckeyes go at it in primetime on Saturday night

Big Ten play is here, and Wisconsin starts with a trip to the toughest venue in the conference.

The Badgers and Buckeyes will battle it out in primetime on Saturday night, as Wisconsin looks to beat Ohio State for the first time since 2010.

We tend to be optimistic in our weekly prediction series, but let’s just say the BadgersWire team took a notably different approach this week. Everything has to go perfectly and then some for the Badgers if they want to stay in it on Saturday, and let alone pull off an upset.

How does the BadgersWire team see this one playing out? Here are our predictions:

Ranking opponents and games on the Ohio State football schedule by most difficult

What do you think will be the most difficult game to win on this year’s Ohio State football schedule? #GoBucks

Hey Ohio State football fans, we are only about three weeks away from the start of the 2022 schedule. You’ll be turning on your very large high-definition television or a lot less smaller device screen to watch the Buckeyes open the seal on the season vs. Notre Dame in the ‘Shoe at night.

The schedule is a fairly difficult one this fall, but there are a lot of home games against the most quality opponents to offset it all. Bottom line: Not all schedules and opponents are created equal.

We decided to tackle (pardon the pun) each game and opponent on the schedule to rank them in terms of most difficult to win. As always, feel free to get in on the conversation and tell us where you think we got it wrong.

Here is a ranking from easiest down to most difficult to win on this season’s Ohio State football schedule.

Ohio State Football Schedule What To Know: Who do the Buckeyes miss from the Big Ten West Division?

It’s Ohio State so it’s not going to freak out about playing anyone, but having to play defending West champ Iowa and having to play Wisconsin isn’t a the best of breaks. However, both games are at home, and having to go on the road to face Northwestern shouldn’t be an issue.

In division play, they have to go to Michigan State and Penn State, but the date with Michigan is back in Columbus this time around.

Ohio State Football Schedule What To Know: Get rolling early and own home field

There can be a misfire on the road against Penn State or Michigan State and be okay as long as Ohio State dominates at home.

Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan – all four should be in the preseason top 25 – and maybe flirt with the top 15 – but again, they’re all home games. Starting out with five straight in Ohio Stadium should be just the warmup for the run of four road trips in six dates.

Ohio State Football Schedule What To Know: What does it all really mean?

To keep hammering this home, it’s not all that bad as long as everything works out early and as long as any mistakes come on the road. As long as there’s a win over the Irish in the opener, the tone should be set the rest of the way.

It’s Ohio State, so it’s College Football Playoff or bust. For almost anyone else this slate would be a forget-about-it-killer. For this program, 11-1 is more than possible.

Big Ten revises Ohio State football’s 2022 schedule

The Big Ten announced changes to Ohio State and all of its conference opponents for the 2022 season on Wednesday. #GoBucks

Similar to the revisions that took place prior to last season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Big Ten has revised football schedules for Ohio State and all of its conference brethren for the upcoming 2022 season.

The revisions are a result of the changes that had to be made during the 2020 pandemic pause and restart. Ohio State will still play the same opponents at the same venues, but the dates of some of the games have moved around. Only the Big Ten games at Northwestern (Nov. 5), Maryland (Nov. 19), and vs. Michigan (Nov. 26) remain unchanged. The nonconference games also remain unchanged.

Here is a complete look at the 2022 schedule as released and updated on Wednesday morning. Hopefully, this will all remain as is, and the pandemic starts to be a nuisance rather than a significant disrupter to life and all that goes with it.

An early look at Ohio State football’s 2022 schedule

Time to dive into what the 2022 football season looks like for Ohio State. #GoBucks

All the rose petals have fallen on the 2021-202 Ohio State football schedule, and it did so by way of a 48-45 winning, finishing kick (literally), out in the “Granddaddy of Them All,” the 108th edition of the Rose Bowl It was an all-time 48-45 classic thriller that will be sitting on DVRs for awhile.

OSU finished the season 11-2 but fell a wee-bit short of its goal of beating Michigan, winning the Big Ten, and making another appearance in the College Football Playoff. There’s still a tie for the Big Ten East division hanging around the Buckeyes’ kneck, but that’s a mere consolation prize for what was put out there to begin the season.

Now, we turn the page to next season, because that’s what we do when following one of the best college football programs of all time. We’ll take a look at the 2022 schedule and provide an early primer for what’s at stake as we forecast each looking way out.

2021 Ohio State football schedule: Another run to a Big Ten title?

A look at the complete Ohio State football schedule for 2021.

Ohio State will kick off its 2021 schedule with what should be a more normal slate than what we saw last season at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. You remember that well. Everything then got turned on its side and abbreviated.

Gone are the conference-only schedules in the Big Ten, and back is a more traditional one that the conference updated in February. All told, there are twelve games in the regular season, a potential Big Ten Championship Game, and perhaps more.

Ohio State football future schedules and opponents

What does the Ohio State football schedule look like as we go out the next few years? Here is a look at some opponents to look forward to.

The Ohio State football program has always done a great job of scheduling some huge intersectional matchups to go along with in-state opponents and programs that pique interest. There are of course games that are ho-hum just to fill out a schedule, but there’s almost always a big nonconference game to look forward to in addition to the Big Ten schedule.

That won’t change over the next few years either. The Buckeye program already has some pretty big games against some of the blue bloods of the sport scheduled far in advance, and while not everything is known after just a couple of years out, the schedules are beginning to take shape.

Just as recently, OSU athletic director Gene Smith confirmed a future home-and-home with Oregon way out in the years of 2032 and 2033.

We’ve put together what we know at this point with future schedules for you to keep track of when and where Ohio State is playing, and what games to look forward to in the future. As the schedules are updated, we’ll continue to add to it, so come back and stay informed.

Very early Ohio State football 2021 game-by-game predictions

We’re 6 months away from the 2021 college football season, but we’re looking ahead, predicting each game on the Ohio State football schedule

Yeah, we know it’s only early March, but we’re always anticipating the next football season at Ohio State. There’s a football factory sitting on the banks of the Olentangy, and there’s always something to discuss and dissect all year long at a place like OSU. Hopefully, this fall will more closely resemble a regular season, at least in terms of the games played than the abbreviated conference only one we saw in 2020 thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We just recently got a revised release of the 2021 schedule from the folks in the Big Ten, which basically moved some of the conference games around a bit for Ohio State, but that’s about it. Now that we know what the opponents and dates are, we thought … hey, why not break it down and provide some very early predictions before we get into spring.

I’m sure we’ll do this exercise a couple of more times before the season kicks off on September 2, but for now, here’s our extremely early, knee-jerk reaction and prediction for each game on the 2021 schedule.
