An early look at Ohio State football’s 2021 schedule

A season we won’t soon forget for many reasons is over for the Ohio State football team. Time for an early look ahead to the 2021 schedule.

I know, I know, you’re still licking your wounds and watching old Ohio State football games of some of the glory moments to wash the bad taste out of your mouth from the beatdown by Alabama. And, now that the season is over, it’s time to turn our attention to next year.

If you are like us — especially after a crushing defeat — it helps to gaze ahead a little and try to figure out if there’s another run towards a couple of trophies in store for 2021.

So, we decided to look ahead at Ohio State’s schedule for next year with the understanding that there are going to be a lot of unknowns with this team. It’ll have to retool on several fronts, but it’s OSU, so there will be plenty of options to choose from.

But first things first, here’s a look a high-level look at the Ohio State football schedule for 2021 and a backstory for each game.

Ohio State football to kick off 2021 season on Thursday night against Minnesota

The Ohio State football team will be banking tradition and beginning its season on a Thursday night at Minnesota in 2021.

We’ve already seen Ohio State begin a season on a Thursday night a couple of years ago at Indiana, and we’ve also witnessed a Friday night game vs. Northwestern this past year. Now, it appears as though the Buckeyes are headed back to a Thursday night to open up the 2021 campaign on the road against Minnesota.

The schedule already had the Gophers hosting Ohio State for the season opener, but the game was moved up by two days to fall in line with Minnesota’s desire to continue its opening games on Thursday night. The change from September 4th to the 2nd was first noticed by FBSSchedules.com when looking at Minnesota’s athletic website, and later confirmed by an Ohio State spokesman.

The Thursday night game is sure to ruffle a lot of traditionalists entrenched in Buckeye Nation, while others will like the weekday affair that has the Buckeyes as the feature of a weekday night, with the following Saturday off to do other things.
