NFL picks against the spread, conference round: Can the 49ers win on the road over the Eagles?

Our picks for the conference championship games.

It only took the season to be reduced to four games for us to have a triumphant week, but here we are! If only the New York Giants put up some sort of fight, perfect records were within reach.

Charles Curtis (109-138-9 regular season) and I (112-135-9 regular season) each went 3-1 in the divisional round, and Caroline Darney went 2-2 (102-117-6 regular season).

Now, things get a lot harder with four teams left and the competitive margins even smaller. Let’s get a word from the crew in our final week of picks before the Super Bowl:

Charles: Man, I was CERTAIN the Giants would cover. Maybe I even thought they’d win. Alas.

Caroline: Ayyy 2-2! Considering one was a pick to give the Giants good luck, I’ll take it I guess.

NFL picks against the spread, divisional round: Can the Bengals upset the Bills?

Our picks for the divisional playoffs.

The Dallas Cowboys had been a better team than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers all season, and yet the entire FTW crew picked them to lose Monday. That’s the tale of our Wild Card Weekend picks against the spread.

We hit a couple but got more wrong than right, because we wanted to stay consistent with the regular season, of course (and also because the Chargers decided a 27-point cushion wasn’t large enough). So, Charles Curtis (109-138-9 regular season), Caroline Darney (102-117-6 regular season) and I (112-135-9 regular season) each went 2-4.

Now we turn our sights towards the divisional round, and I smell a couple more upsets on the horizon.

NFL picks against the spread, Wild Card weekend: Can the Buccaneers beat the Cowboys?

Our picks for Wild Card weekend.

I know what you’re thinking. This is the place you come to laugh about someone else’s pain in making picks against the spread. This isn’t where you come for actual advice on where to lay your money in the playoffs. And I get it, our overall records would prove you right.

But hear me out!

The FTW crew is going into the postseason with some solid momentum after everyone went at least .500 in Week 18. I finished the week 9-7 (112-135-9 overall), while Caroline Darney (102-117-6) and Charles Curtis (109-138-9) each went 8-8.

I don’t know about them, but I feel good about Wild Card weekend.

The largest point spreads on NFL Wild Card weekend aren’t deterring bettors

The 49ers, Bills and Bengals are all favored by more than one score.

Three NFL teams are favored by more than one score on Wild Card Weekend, as sportsbooks expect the San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals to all roll in their first-round matchups.

Bettors apparently agree, with an overwhelming majority picking those teams to cover their large spreads, based on DraftKings data from VSiN.

The 49ers are 9.5-point favorites over the Seattle Seahawks, and 68% of betslips picked them to cover. The Bills have the largest spread of the weekend, giving 13 points to the Miami Dolphins. Yet 79% of betslips have them covering as well. The Bengals, currently favored by 8.5 points over the Baltimore Ravens, have the largest percentage of bets at 83%.

Bettors might be on to something — at least with the Bills anyway. Double-digit favorites in the playoffs are 11-3 ATS since 2010, according to BetMGM’s John Ewing.

Will that trend end following a regular season with big upsets and a huge dip in scoring? I wouldn’t bet on it. The Dolphins and Ravens both might be starting third-string quarterbacks, and the Seahawks are about to run into a buzz saw.

NFL picks against the spread, Week 18: Who wins between Packers and Lions?

Our picks for Week 18.

Before getting into our Week 18 picks, I want to continue sending thoughts and positive vibes out to Damar Hamlin and recognize that his health is of the utmost importance, even as games are set to be played.

Most of our picking crew was away for Week 17, so this is our return after a week off and just in time for season finales. Some of these games have huge playoff implications and some have none at all, but we’ll pick from all of the above.

Before we get into it, here’s a quick update on records:

Charles Curtis: 101-130-9

Caroline Darney: 94-109-6

Prince Grimes: 103-128-9

Blake Schuster: 95-108-9

NFL betting picks for Week 16

Check out our Week 16 betting picks for the games left on the schedule.

The Week 16 schedule for the NFL began on Thursday night with the Jacksonville Jaguars taking down the New York Jets 19-3. This weekend most of the games are on Saturday with only three games.

That means you need some betting picks early if you are going to have some action.

Below are my betting picks for all the games left on the schedule, as well as some insight as to why I made the picks.

NFL picks against the spread, Week 16: Who wins NFC East clash between the Eagles and Cowboys?

Our picks for Week 16.

I picked the absolute worst time to match my worst week of the season for my worst two-week stretch of the season. For that, I want to send a special shoutout to the Patriots for the dumbest play I’ve ever witnessed in real time.

Thanks a lot for adding the most unnecessary of my Ls to a 5-11 record for the week (96-120-8 overall). But I digress.

The rest of the crew played things closer to .500 in Week 15 with Blake Schuster leading the way at 8-8 (89-99-8), and Caroline Darney (94-109-6) and Charles Curtis (95-121-8) each going 7-9.

And now, before Week 16 picks, a word:

Charles: Eh, my late-season momentum is stalling. Let’s just get to the playoffs already.

Blake: I can’t believe I’m happy about going 8-8 last week. Send help.

NFL picks against the spread, Week 15: Who wins important game between Giants and Commanders?

Our picks for Week 15.

Sometimes when you pick the Las Vegas Raiders, no matter how bad the opponent, you pay a price. That’s not necessarily a new lesson from Week 14, but it was definitely top of mind as Baker freaking Mayfield led the Rams back in the fourth quarter to send us all to an 0-1 start to the week.

Most of us never recovered from there. Charles Curtis did, finishing the week with a 7-6 record (88-112-8 overall). Blake Schuster (81-91-8) and I (91-109-8) each went 5-8, and Caroline Darney went 4-9 (87-100-6).

Before we get into our Week 15 picks, here’s a word from the crew:

Blake: It turns out inadvertently picking only favorites against the spread isn’t a winning strategy. Who knew?

Caroline: I apologize for my embarrassing performance. I promise to try and get better.

Charles: A winning week from me?! Hey, look at us dot GIF.

NFL picks against the spread, Week 14: Can the Jets beat the Bills again?

Our picks for Week 14.

Things were looking up for the crew after the early slate of Week 13 games. Then, they went downhill fast. Very fast. Our collective record in the late and prime-time matchups wasn’t pretty.

Nobody had a worse showing than me. After going 7-2 on my early picks, I finished 0-6 on every game after that. Just brutal.

Caroline Darney weathered the late-game storm to put together a strong 9-6 record for the week (83-91-6 overall). Blake Schuster went 6-9 (76-83-8) and Charles Curtis went 5-10 (81-106-8). I was obviously 7-8 (86-101-8).

Let’s get a word before our Week 14 picks:

Blake: *sighs*…nice week for me, I guess.

Charles: Just need 25 wins to get to .500. Totally doable.

Caroline: Winning week! Let’s go!
