Daniel Jones is weirdly on the Dallas Cowboys’ website after the Giants released him

What the … ?

OK, look, I have no idea what the heck this means, despite the fact that every NFL fan is shouting for the Dallas Cowboys to sign Daniel Jones so he can get revenge on the New York Giants on Thanksgiving.

Over an hour after the Giants released Jones in what turned out to be a very messy divorce, Jones is out here appearing on the Cowboys’ official website. UPDATE: Aaaand it’s gone.

MORE: 5 possible Daniel Jones destinations, including — yes — the Cowboys

Jones isn’t listed on the official roster, but seriously, that link above leads to a player page for Jones on the Cowboys.

Why????? Are the Cowboys seriously claiming him off waivers? (Doubtful that anyone would claim him off waivers.) Is this someone having a laugh?

We need answers!

Before you ask, NO, the Steelers won’t sign Daniel Jones

The Giants released Daniels Jones on Friday and the Steelers need to stay far away from him.

Huge news out of New York on Friday with the Giants releasing former first-round pick Daniel Jones. According to reports, this was a mutually-agreed upon breakup between Jones and the Giants.

So before anyone asks, let’s be sure we are all clear. The Pittsburgh Steelers will not sign Jones this season. That’s not to say if Jones is on the market after the season ends, the Steelers might not entertain the idea but for now, the Steelers have enough quarterback problems to deal with without adding Jones to the mix.

Jones was the No. 6 overall pick in 2019. He played well enough to convince the Giants to give him a four-year, $160 million extension in the 2023 offseason. Jones has been a disaster since signing his new contract. The Steelers are already trying to sort out what to do with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields and while neither guy is signed for 2025, we do not expect Pittsburgh to bring in Jones now and just further complicate things.

Fans desperately want Cowboys to sign Daniel Jones for a Thanksgiving revenge game

NFL fans desperately hope the Cowboys sign Daniel Jones to set up a Thanksgiving revenge game against the Giants

With Daniel Jones benched and Dak Prescott injured, the Giants-Cowboys matchup on Thanksgiving sure lost some intrigue and excitement. It wasn’t shaping up to be a good game regardless, but that holiday showdown somehow got worse with Tommy DeVito and Cooper Rush projected to be the starting quarterbacks.

The Cowboys have a chance to do the funniest thing, though.

Jones, who was released by the Giants on Friday, would be the ultimate signing by the Cowboys after he clears waivers. And fans desperately want to see Jerry Jones sign the former Giants quarterback to set up a revenge game on Thanksgiving.

It would certainly be one way to jazz up what is otherwise going to be a snoozefest – or a turnover-filled disaster at AT&T Stadium.

Danny Dimes against Tommy Cutlets on Thanksgiving. Who says no?

Daniel Jones may stink, but the Giants did him dirty before releasing him

This was very much mishandled.

Two things can be true, and in the case of the New York Giants releasing Daniel Jones on Friday, that’s, well, the truth.

The first true thing: Daniel Jones probably isn’t a starting QB-caliber player in the NFL. As a Giants fan myself, I’ve watched pretty much every snap he’s taken, and I can tell you that while he’s a pretty good runner and OK when he has to throw only a few yards downfield, he struggles with decision-making and any pass over 10 yards.

The second thing is more damning and damaging for the franchise: the Giants bungled this whole situation from the get-go.

Signing him to a bigger deal — four years and $160 million back in 2023 –after one playoff win, in a season in which he was basically a game manager who got the ball out of his hands quickly, was a mistake.

But if the dead cap hit was going to be the same whether they released him now or in 2025, why string him along and keep him on the roster?

Why, after benching him for Tommy DeVito, did they decide to stash him, demote him as QB4 and use him as a scout team safety, and only after his written statement and the criticism from fans about handling this, did they release him?

Coach Brian Daboll had to face those questions on Friday:

This is bad. It’s bad because future free agents see this and think badly of how things are run. It’s bad because the current roster saw how Jones was treated, and there was talk that players were confused as to the thinking behind it.

I get that the Giants are now in full tank mode and are heading toward restarting with a new quarterback like Shedeur Sanders.

But this process will be a mark against them in the future.

Salary cap impact of Giants releasing Daniel Jones: How much dead money in 2024 and 2025?

The Giants shockingly released Daniel Jones on Friday, which has big salary cap implications for New York

One day after Daniel Jones all but said goodbye to the New York Giants at his press conference by reading a statement, the team officially said goodbye to the quarterback.

On Friday, the Giants shockingly released Jones after five-plus seasons. The move came after Jones approached team president John Mara and asked to be released, which the Giants granted him.

Jones had been demoted to QB4 and wasn’t going to play another snap this season, so the Giants did right by him and will now allow him to play elsewhere after he clears waivers. With a $160 million contract, this decision obviously has huge salary cap implications.

According to Spotrac, the Giants will take on $47.1 million in dead money this year and $22.2 million in 2025. By releasing Jones, the Giants free up $19.4 million in cap space next year as his cap hit will drop from $41.61 million to $22.21 million.

The Giants signed Jones to a four-year, $160 million extension in March of 2023, only for that contract to be restructured six months later. With his release, he only played a year and a half of that lucrative extension, leaving behind almost $70 million in dead money.

How the Giants’ releasing Daniel Jones now affects their dead salary cap space

The Daniel Jones Era is over.

Can’t say this is surprising, but it’s a situation that escalated to the point where it was necessary.

A day after Daniel Jones played scout team safety and the quarterback shared a classy written goodbye, the New York Giants announced they were granting the embattled quarterback his release.

“We mutually agreed that would be the best for him and for the team,” owner John Mara said in a statement.

If you’re a Giants fan, your first questions is: how does releasing him now and not in the offseason affect the team’s cap space?

Turns out: the dead cap hit the Giants are taking — over $22 million — is the same if they released him now or in the offseason.

As you were.

Giants waive franchise QB, former No. 6 overall pick Daniel Jones

The New York Giants have released former No. 6 overall pick and quarterback Daniel Jones ahead of the Week 12 game vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

There are daily and constant jokes about Daniel Jones, but we’re going to find out very quickly what he’s worth on the open market. After being benched and demoted to the fourth-string quarterback, Daniel Jones requested his release, and the Giants granted his wish.

Jones was drafted with the No. 6 pick from the Duke Blue Devils in the 2019 NFL Draft. After earning a contract extension in 2022, his struggles have continued in his sixth season with the Giants organization. Through 10 games this season, he has thrown just eight touchdowns to seven interceptions with a 79.4 passer rating and 46.8 quarterback rating.

While speaking to reporters Thursday, Jones thanked the organization and teammates and, while taking questions from the media, noted that his injury guarantee of $23 million was the prime factor in his demotion and scout team activity at safety.

“Well, I’ve got the injury guarantee,” Jones said. “So, that’s that. I understand it. They don’t want to take any risks. At that point, it’s just do as you’re told.”

Jones will finish his Giants career with a 64.1 completion percentage, 14,582 yards passing, 70 touchdowns, 47 interceptions, and an 84.3 passer rating.

Against Philadelphia, Jones has a passer rating of 88.6 with 1202 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions in 6 games against the Eagles in his career.

Giants officially release QB Daniel Jones

The New York Giants have announced the official release of quarterback Daniel Jones.

The New York Giants have announced that quarterback Daniel Jones has been released, 24 hours after he read an emotional goodbye.

“Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if we would release him. We mutually agreed that would be best for him and for the team,” co-owner John Mara said. “Daniel has been a great representative of our organization, first class in every way.

“His handling of this situation yesterday exemplifies just that. We are all disappointed in how things have worked out. We hold Daniel in high regard and have a great appreciation for him.

“We wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

It was evident from his tone on Thursday that Jones considered his time with the Giants over and indicated that he was likely to request his release.

After returning from their bye week, head coach Brian Daboll revealed that Jones had been demoted to QB3. He was demoted to QB4 a day later when the team signed Tim Boyle to their practice squad.

The decision to demote Jones was made both due to his poor play this season and his injury clause, which accounted for $23 million guaranteed in 2025.

Many of Jones’ teammates came to his defense following the benching, some publicly and others privately. One offensive player called the decision to sit Jone “weak as (expletive).”

Nose tackle Dexter Lawrence and wide receiver Darius Slayton were among those to publicly endorse Jones with Lawrence saying he was clearly the best quarterback on the roster.

“I wish Daniel the best,” Daboll told reporters. “A lot of respect for him. True pro. I wish him all the best.”

Jones will now be subject to waivers. However, due to his contract, it’s expected that he will clear at 4:01 p.m. ET on Saturday and be free to sign with another team.

Elle Duncan stands by her Daniel Jones criticism after his written statement to Giants

She didn’t mince words.

Daniel Jones had himself quite a day on Thursday.

He played safety for the scout team after being demoted to QB4, then read a classy written goodbye to the New York Giants, which was really nice of him.

ESPN’s Elle Duncan thought the goodbye was “inexplicable” and came up with her own version of his apology: “I’m sorry you paid me $108 million for one playoff win. And I look forward to reviving my career as Brock Purdy’s backup. The end.”

WHEW! And then on First Take the next morning, she stood by what she said, and called out fans who were calling her out:
