Warriors vs. Wizards: Steph Curry drops 17 points in preseason win at NBA Japan Games

Steph Curry helped lead the Warriors to their second preseason win with 17 first half points against the Wizards in Japan.

Before the Golden State Warriors return home to the Bay Area for the remainder of training camp, they had a preseason rematch against the Washington Wizards at Saitama Super Arena in Japan on Saturday evening. 

After a victory in the preseason opener against the Wizards, the Warriors went right back to business on Saturday. Steph Curry got the Warriors going with 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field with three triples, five boards and two assists in the first half.

After Curry’s night was over in the first half, Moses Moody and rookie Patrick Baldwin Jr. took over off the bench. 

Moody and Baldwin each tallied double-figure scoring performances for the Warriors. Moody tallied 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor with two 3-pointers and two assists in 25 minutes. 

Baldwin Jr. played 17 minutes, scoring 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field with six rebounds, an assist and a steal. In his second preseason appearance, Baldwin Jr. showed off his smooth jumper, hitting four triples on five attempts from deep. 

Mac McClung scored nine points on 4-of-6 shooting in the fourth quarter to help the Warriors seal their second straight win over the Wizards in the preseason, 104-95.

Following two wins in Japan, the Warriors will return to San Francisco for three more preseason games before opening night against the Los Angeles Lakers on Oct. 14.

James Wiseman leads Warriors with 20 points in preseason win vs. Wizards in Japan

In the Warriors’ 96-87 victory over the Wizards in the preseason opener in Japan, James Wiseman led the way with 20 points and eight boards.

In the Golden State Warriors preseason opener against the Washington Wizards in Japan on Friday morning, James Wiseman checked several boxes in an impressive performance. 

After playing only 39 games in his rookie campaign and missing all of his second season due to a knee injury, the 2020 No. 2 overall pick returned to the court on Friday for the Warriors’ preseason contest against the Wizards.

In 24 minutes off the bench, Wiseman led the team with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field in Golden State’s 96-87 preseason victory over Washington at Saitama Super Arena. Wiseman added eight boards, an assist and a block against the Wizards.

Golden State newcomer Donte DiVincenzo added nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field with a pair of 3-pointers, seven rebounds and two assists in 17 minutes off the bench.

In a 13-minute appearance in the first half, Steph Curry tallied six points on 1-of-7 shooting from the floor with one triple, three rebounds and two assists to start the preseason. 

Both rookies Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Ryan Rollins made their preseason debuts against the Wizards. Rollings tallied eight points on 1-of-5 shooting with two rebounds and an assist in 11 minutes. Baldwin Jr. added seven points on 2-of-3 shooting from the floor with a rebound in eight minutes. 

Following their victory in the preseason opener on Friday, the Warriors will be back on the court in Japan on Saturday for a rematch against the Wizards at 10 p.m. PT.

Steph Curry showed off his signature long-distance jumper in the Warriors’ preseason opener against the Wizards in Japan.

After a quiet start to the preseason opener against the Washington Wizards in Japan, the reigning NBA Finals Most Valuable Player flashed his signature long-distance jumper in front of the crowd in Japan.

With 8:53 remaining in the first half, Steph Curry pulled up from deep beyond the arc to hit his first triple of the 2022 preseason. Curry’s 32-footer helped the Warriors stretch their lead over the Wizards to six points.

In the first half against the Wizards on Friday morning, Curry tallied six points on 1-of-7 shooting from the field and 1-of-4 from deep with three boards and two assists in 13 minutes in the preseason opener.

On the way to adding his fourth championship ring, Curry averaged 25.5 points on 43.7% shooting from the field and 38% from long distance, with 6.3 assists and 5.2 rebounds per contest.

The development and fit for James Wiseman will be something to monitor for the Golden State Warriors in the preseason.

After playing only 39 games in his rookie year and missing all of his sophomore season due to a knee injury, Wiseman is slated to be back on the court for the Warriors throughout the preseason campaign.

In the Warriors’ preseason opener against the Washington Wizards in Japan, it didn’t take long for Steph Curry to find the former No. 2 overall NBA draft pick. With 10:35 remaining in the second quarter, the reigning NBA Finals Most Valuable Player floated a lob to Wiseman for an emphatic two-handed dunk in front of the crowd at Saitama Super Arena.

In the first half against the Wizards, Wiseman tallied six points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field with a rebound in eight minutes.

Prior to his injury in his rookie season, Wiseman averaged 11.5 points on 51.9% shooting from the floor with 5.8 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 21.4 minutes per contest.
