Falcons Week 7 injury report: A.J. Terrell, Mykal Walker return

Falcons CB A.J. Terrell and LB Mykal Walker returned to practice on Wednesday.

The Atlanta Falcons (3-3) will head to Cincinnati in Week 6 for a matchup against the 3-3 Bengals. After staying relatively healthy for the first five games, the Falcons lost some key players during Sunday’s 28-14 win over the 49ers, including both starting cornerbacks A.J. Terrell and Casey Hayward.

Hayward has since been placed on the injured reserve list, but Terrell practiced on Wednesday and appears to be on track to play this weekend. Linebacker Mykal Walker also returned to practice after sitting out in Week 6.

Check out the team’s Wednesday injury report below.

Falcons TE Kyle Pitts questionable for Sunday’s game vs. 49ers

Falcons Week 6 injury report: TE Kyle Pitts questionable, LB Mykal Walker OUT for Sunday’s game against the 49ers.

The Atlanta Falcons wrapped up their final practice ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the San Francisco 49ers and have given injury designations to tight end Kyle Pitts and linebacker Mykal Walker.

Pitts, who was limited for all three days of practice after missing Week 5, is officially questionable for Week 6. Walker, on the other hand, has been ruled out due to a groin injury.

Starting left guard Elijah Wilkinson and OLB Adetokunbo Ogundeji have also been listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. With Mykal Walker ruled out, look for second-round pick Troy Andersen to step into the starting lineup.

On Sunday evening, the Falcons traded former Pro-Bowl LB Deion Jones and a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Browns in exchange for Cleveland’s 2024 sixth-round pick.

The Jones trade clears up a congested inside linebacker position and allows the team to get Andersen onto the field. Fans should also expect to see undrafted free agent Nathan Landman get some meaningful reps in Walker’s absence.

Pitts has previously said he expects to play this week, but his questionable tag won’t sit well with fantasy football owners. Check out the starting lineups for Sunday’s game against the 49ers, and make sure to vote in our Falcons fan poll before it closes!

The Atlanta Falcons listed four players on their Wednesday injury report, and added a fifth on Thursday. Linebacker Mykal Walker missed his second straight practice, and was joined by punter Bradley Pinion.

Mykal Walker, Ade Ogundeji questionable to return vs. Bucs

#Falcons injury update: Mykal Walker (groin) and Ade Ogundeji (shoulder) are questionable to return vs. the Buccaneers.

The Falcons may have lost starting inside linebacker Mykal Walker for the game after he injured his groin against the Buccaneers Sunday. Walker is officially questionable to return.

Walker wasn’t the only Falcons player to go down, however. Outside linebacker Adetokunbo Ogundeji injured his shoulder in the third quarter and is also questionable to return.

The Falcons are trailing by 21 points to the Buccaneers in the third quarter.

Falcons LB Mykal Walker happy to be ‘flying around’ back at practice

Falcons LB Mykal Walker is happy to be back at practice as he fights for a starting job this season.

With Foye Oluokun out of the picture and the uncertainty surrounding Deion Jones‘ future, Falcons linebacker Mykal Walker could be on the verge of a breakout season.

After a promising rookie campaign, Walker took a step back in 2021 as the team transitioned to a 3-4 defense. The former Fresno State standout often took a back seat to Oluokun and Jones last year, however, Walker is looking forward to playing a bigger role in 2022.

“It feels good. Just back with the boys, flying around and stuff,” said Walker following the team’s first training camp practice Wednesday. “This is what we live for.”

Among the areas Walker is hoping to improve is his ability to handle things like a professional, saying he hopes to cut back on his “moaning and complaining” from years past and focus more on his role as a leader. Walker had hoped his promising rookie season would propel him into a bigger role in 2021, so it’s easy to understand his frustration when that didn’t happen last year.

“I mean, any time you really feel tired or anything like that, you just got to tell yourself ‘a year ago, how would you feel? You wanted this a year ago.’ So I think that’s just kind of self-motivation for me,” explained Walker.

Walker will have to battle rookie Troy Andersen, one of Atlanta’s two second-round picks. Andersen has received lots of offseason hype from the coaching staff. Iron sharpens iron, as they say, so competition should bring out the best in both players.

Falcons lineup projections: Mykal Walker’s time to shine?

Falcons ILB Mykal Walker moves into the starting defensive lineup in our latest projection.

The Atlanta Falcons wrapped up their third week of organized team activities on Thursday, and they will begin mandatory minicamp next week. While it’s unwise to overreact to what happens in June, there have been a few developments worth noting.

Deion Jones, Atlanta’s highest-paid player, has been out as he recovers from shoulder surgery. This has left one of the starting inside linebacker spots up for grabs between Mykal Walker, Troy Andersen and Nick Kwiatkoski.

Check out our updated Falcons starting lineup projections going into minicamp.

Falcons LB Mykal Walker changes jersey to No. 3

After many months of speculation, Falcons second-year linebacker Mykal Walker finally changes his jersey number.

After many months of speculation, Falcons second-year linebacker Mykal Walker has finally changed his jersey number. Walker sported the No. 43 jersey during his rookie season, but after the NFL relaxed its jersey number policy, Walker will don the number he wore at Fresno State: No. 3.

Walker hinted at a number change in May and reiterated it once again in the middle of training camp. Not many Falcons players took advantage of the new number policy, only Russell Gage opted to switch to the No. 14.

Rookie Kyle Pitts and veteran Tajae Sharpe did however opt to go with single digit numbers, previously only reserved for quarterbacks, punters, and kickers.

The Falcons released their first 53-man roster for the 2021 season on Tuesday.

Watch: Falcons LB Mykal Walker makes impressive interception

Walker, a fourth-round pick out of Fresno State, excelled in pass coverage as a rookie season and looks to be picking up where he left off.

A lack of salary cap funds kept the Falcons from being a major player in free agency. Instead, Atlanta is relying on its young talent to fill the void left by the team’s many free-agent departures.

Second-year linebacker Mykal Walker is one of the players the Falcons will need to step up this season. The fourth-round pick out of Fresno State excelled in pass coverage as a rookie and looks to be picking up right where he left off thus far at training camp.

On Saturday, Walker came away with an interception that showcased his impressive coverage instincts. Watch below as Walker stays with his man, gets his head around and fights to come away with the ball.

Walker also bulked up his frame over the offseason as he looks to add more strength while transitioning to a bigger role in Dean Pees’ defense.

Falcons LB Mykal Walker contemplating a number change

The NFL relaxed their number policy rule this offseason. One of the changes allows linebackers to wear jersey numbers 1-59 and 90-99. While at Fresno State, Walker sported the No. 3 jersey, which currently sits vacant in Atlanta’s locker room.

Last week, Falcons wide receiver Russell Gage traded in his No. 83 jersey for the No. 14. Now it appears that Gage’s teammate, Mykal Walker, could be the latest member of the team to change his jersey number. The second-year linebacker out of Fresno State hinted that a change could be coming on his Instagram page.
