Rutgers women’s basketball unable to overcome slow start against Wisconsin

Rutgers women’s basketball drops a game against Wisconsin this weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, Rutgers women’s basketball was unable to overcome a slow start in their latest Big Ten loss. The Scarlet Knights took on the Wisconsin Badgers, who improved to 12-12 with a 61-43 win.

From the first quarter, Wisconsin had control of this game. They outscored Rutgers 30-18 in the first half. As the Badgers jumped out to an early lead, Serah Williams set the tone offensively. The Brooklyn native scored 17 points and hauled in 18 rebounds.

While Saturday didn’t go as planned for Rutgers, there were a few bright spots, including Destiny Adams and Mya Petticord. Adams continued to be a points machine, scoring a team-high 18 points. Petticord also made an impact with eight points and four rebounds.

Wisconsin built an early lead in this matchup as Rutgers struggled to take care of the ball. They scored 20 points off turnovers, while Rutgers only scored nine. The Badgers also dominated close to the basket with 32 points in the paint.

Although this season has been full of ups and downs for Wisconsin, they showed some resilience in this win. After a disappointing loss to Indiana on February 14, they took control of this game early and never backed down.

Rutgers will now shift their focus to Maryland. They are set to take on the Terrapins on February 21 at the Xfinity Center.

Rutgers women’s basketball looks to continue February success

Rutgers women’s basketball is looking to build on their recent solid play.

Following a Big Ten win earlier this week, Rutgers women’s basketball is be back in action on Saturday. Rutgers will welcome Wisconsin to Jersey Mike’s Arena for the annual Play4Kay game.

Entering this matchup, Rutgers has been playing better of late and posted a 2-2 record in February. In that span, they have beaten Nebraska and Minnesota. Rutgers has scored at least 70 points in both of their wins this month.

However, they will have their hands full with a talented Wisconsin team. The Badgers have posted an 11-12 record through 23 games and won four Big Ten games. During that stretch, they have been led by Serah Williams. The Brooklyn native is averaging 18.1 points per game.

As the Badgers look to get back in the win column, they will be tasked with stopping Mya Petticord. In Rutgers win over Minnesota earlier this week, the talented guard scored a season-high 25 points. She was also deadly from beyond the arc, making four three-pointers.

While this season has not gone as planned for Rutgers, they have looked a lot better of late. After entering the month with zero conference wins, they have quickly turned things. Against a Wisconsin team that has had a rollercoaster season, they have a good opportunity to prove that their recent success is no fluke.

After only scoring eight points in the first quarter, Rutgers took over in the final three frames. They were led by Mya Petticord, who scored a season-high 25 points. She was also deadly from beyond the arc, making four three-pointers. However, she was not the only one who had a big game.

Rutgers star Destiny Adams continued to be a points machine. The Lakehurst, New Jersey native scored 21 points. She has reached the 20-point mark twice in four games this month.

As Rutgers improved to 2-12 in Big Ten play, they capitalized on Minnesota’s mistakes. The Golden Gophers turned the ball over 17 times and committed 25 fouls. Due to their mistakes, Minnesota was unable to mount a comeback.

In this matchup, Rutgers also showed a lot of resilience. Despite a rough first quarter, they found a way to win and get back on track before it was too late. That was partly due to their success from three-point range.

After one of their best wins of the season, Rutgers will shift their focus to Wisconsin. They will face the Badgers on February 17 at Jersey Mike’s Arena.

Rutgers women’s basketball continues their struggle.

On Wednesday, Rutgers women’s basketball continued to struggle as they dropped their ninth straight game. Rutgers took on Illinois, who dominated offensively in a 96-68 win. From the first whistle, the Scarlet Knights proved to be no match for the Illini.

In their latest win, Illinois used a big first quarter in which they outscored Rutgers 23-5 to build a lead they would never relinquish. They were led by Genesis Bryant, who added 17 points to her resume. She got some help from Kendall Bostic, who chipped in 13 points.

While Rutgers will quickly put this game in the rearview memory, there were a few positives. As she has done all season, Destiny Adams was a scoring machine. The New Jersey native added 26 points to her resume, and Mya Petticord chipped in with 16 of her own.

In their latest loss, Rutgers could not stop Illinois close to the basket. The Fighting Illinois scored 40 points in the paint while only allowing 26. That allowed them to build a lead early on and put pressure on Rutgers to take advantage of every opportunity.

Caitlin Clark once again showed why she is an elite player in performance at Rutgers

Rutgers women’s basketball lost to Iowa and Caitlin Clark on Friday night.

In the Iowa Hawkeyes’ 103-69 win over Rutgers on Friday night, Caitlin Clark continued to show why she is one of the best players in women’s college basketball.

The Des Moines native scored 29 points and added 10 rebounds to her resume. Due to her play, the Hawkeyes were able to build a big lead that Rutgers could not overcome. In the first half, the Hawkeyes outscored Rutgers 55-30. Clark also got some help from Kate Martin, who scored 17 points.

While Rutgers could not stop Iowa’s offense, there were still a few bright spots. For the third straight game, Mya Petticord scored at least 12 points. Chyna Cornwell also made an impact with 12 points of her own. On a night when Rutgers was without their leading scorer, Kaylene Smikle, others stepped up.

Although the Hawkeyes were favored coming into this game, they took advantage of Rutgers mistakes. Iowa scored 18 points off turnovers and recorded 58 points in the paint. Their ability to dominate the boards made it hard for Rutgers to mount a comeback.

After Friday’s loss, the Scarlet Knights are 0-4 in conference play this season, the worst record in the Big Ten. They will look to get back on track against Ohio State next Wednesday.

Big Ten Network analyst Meghan McKeown says Rutgers women’s basketball improved this offseason

Big Ten Network analyst believes Rutgers women’s basketball took a step forward this offseason.

Coquese Washington did a solid job in her first season as head coach of the Rutgers women’s basketball team. Now this offseason, she has made a pair of additions in the transfer portal that should help the rebuilding program take the next step.

Rutgers landed two big transfers this offseason in guard Mya Petticord (Texas A&M) and guard Destiny Adams (North Carolina)

A former Northwestern basketball player, McKeown has worked for ESPN as well as her current role with the Big Ten Network. She sees promise and potential in the Scarlet Knights following a first season under Washington where they went 12-20 (5-13 Big Ten) and won a game in the conference tournament.

“Rutgers added high-major talent in the transfer portal, which is massive. Mya Petticord from Texas A&M played 15 minutes a game in the SEC her freshman year,” McKeown said.

“Destiny Adams played 17 minutes a game at North Carolina. Experience at the Power Five level will be huge for coach Washington in year two.”

Adams is an interesting addition for Rutgers. A former standout player from Machester Township, N.J., Adams was a McDonald’s All-American coming out of high school.

“Huge for Rutgers to get New Jersey-native Destiny Adams. What’s good about getting a player like Adams is she has played impactful minutes in the ACC, which is one of the best conferences in the country,” McKeown said.

“She understands how hard you have to compete in an elite conference, plus she has size and a great motor. Her faceup game and ability to drive by players at 6-foot-3 makes her difficult to guard. The Big Ten doesn’t necessarily have a ton of players at 6-foot-3 who can effectively defend on the perimeter against a player as quick as Adams. Her game will allow Rutgers to continue to try and play fast.”

Last season, Adams averaged 4.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game for North Carolina.
