In comparison, star receiver Evan Stewart led the offense with eight receptions for 115 yards and two touchdowns on the night, as new OC Bobby Petrino’s play-calling has been welcomed with open arms as the Aggie’s up-tempo offense with multiple formation looks was truly a sight for sore eyes. On Saturday night, the studs were indeed fed.

Texas A&M lands in Phil Steele’s Top 5 most-improved teams ahead of the 2023 CFB Season

Texas A&M has landed in Phil Steeles’ Top 16 most-improved teams in 2023 list, finding themselves among the Top 5 teams.

What if I told you that having high expectations for Texas A&M ahead of the pivotal 2023 college football season was okay, especially after their disastrous 5-7 (2-6 SEC) 2022 campaign?

Well, I’m here to confirm that all of us in the Aggie media sphere aren’t the only ones in the hope business regarding the Maroon and White, as longtime CFB analyst Phil Steele, known for his annual season preview magazine, released his Top 16 most-improved teams ahead of the 2023 season, which happens to include Texas A&M who landed among the Top five teams listed.

Leading the SEC in returning production with eight starters returning on offense and defense, including veteran players such as wide receiver Ainias Smith, defensive tackle McKinnley Jackson, and strong safety Demani Richardson, who will all take on important leadership roles not only on the field but also inside the locker room.

Led sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman who’s poised to take the next step in his development after finishing 2022 with 896 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and zero interceptions for a 132.3 passer rating in five games during the latter half of the 2022 season, is poised to take the next step in his development under play-calling savant and QB guru Bobby Petrino, who’s entering his first season as the program’s new offensive coordinator.

Here are the Top five teams poised to improve in 2023, according to Phil Steele.

Kickoff times and TV network details released for Texas A&M’s first three 2023 football games

College Football is…close! TV network, kickoff times for Texas A&M’s first three football games have been released!

It’s June 1, and you know what that means? The start of the 2023 college football season is less than 100 days away, and in the current NIL/recruiting climate, it feels more like three weeks to those of us in the industry.

For Texas A&M, the 2023 campaign is filled with many storylines, while head coach Jimbo Fisher’s future with the program is tied to newly minted offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino’s immediate impact or lack thereof. On Wednesday, The TV Networks and Kickoff times for A&M’s first three games of the season were released to the public, showing how fans will plan their weekend in early Sept.

  • Sept. 2, New Mexico at Texas A&M: 6:00 p.m. on ESPN
  • Sept. 9, Texas A&M at Miami: 2:30 p.m. on ABC
  • Sept. 16, Louisiana-Monroe at Texas A&M: 3:00 p.m. on the SEC Network

The other game time released is Texas A&M’s fourth nonconference home matchup vs. Abilene Christian on Nov. 18 at 11:00 a.m. on ESPN+ and SEC Network +. Not to disregard New Mexico or Louisina-Monroe, but the Miami game is the first big test for the Maroon and White next season, as the Hurricanes look for revenge after falling 17-9 early last season in one of the uglier primetime games, so expect both teams to look very different in what should be a sunny Miami afternoon on Sept. 9th.

College Sports Wire reviews the most anticipated Texas A&M nonconfernce matchup in 2023

Patrick Conn of College Sports Wire recently reviewed CBS Sports’ list of the most anticipated nonconference matchups in the 2023 CFB season.

It’s that time of the year, folks, as we begin the 100-day countdown to the start of the 2023 college football season, and instead of focusing on mainstream topics such as if the Georgia Bulldogs will yet again go undefeated next season, it’s time to take a closer look at the best nonconference matchups the game has to offer.

CBS Sports released its list of the best conference games next season earlier this week. Patrick Conn of College Sports Wire provided his take on each matchup, including the anticipated early season rematch between Texas A&M and Miami. Last season, the Aggies defeated the Hurricanes behind the arm of quarterback Max Johnson, who was aided by an impressive defensive effort, including eight tackles from then-freshman safety Bryce Anderson.

This season, both teams are more talented and experienced after enduring disappointing finishes in 2022, leading to changes at the offensive coordinator spot as Bobby Petrino has joined Texas A&M, While Shane Dawson has made his way to South Beach. For Patrick Conn, this may be a season definer ahead of conference play.

These two programs will meet for the fifth time since 1944. The Aggies won the first game of the series and won last year, 17-9. Both had higher expectations than they way they finished and both made changes at offensive coordinator. Jimbo Fisher brought in former Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino as the offensive coordinator, and he will work with five-star QB Conner Weigman. Weigman didn’t play in this game last year but will be the guy this time around.

Tyler Van Dyke returns for the Hurricanes after speculation that he was unhappy in Miami. It turns out that was false and now the focus shifts to the upcoming season. The Hurricanes are looking to return to the ACC title picture in year two of the Mario Cristobal era. New OC Shannon Dawson comes over from Houston, the hope being that the offense is much more lethal this time around. Houston was No. 16 in scoring offenses with 36.1 points per game. The Canes were No. 97 at 23.6 points per game.

Texas A&M will open their 2023 season at Kyle Field vs. New Mexico on Saturday, Sept. 2, as times will be announced before the start of the season.

American Airlines is adding a non-stop flight from College Station to Miami for Texas A&M’s Sept. 9 matchup vs. the Hurricanes

It was reported on Thursday that American Airlines is adding a non-stop flight from College Station to Miami for Texas A&M’s Sept 9 road test vs. Miami.

Texas A&M’s 2023 schedule is filled with exciting matchups for a program looking to take a 360-degree rebound after their highly disappointing and just plain bizarre 5-7 2022 season. With their first test coming into Week 2 on the road in a rematch against the Miami Hurricanes, American Airlines will make it much easier for Aggies to travel to Miami to cheer on the Maroon and White.

On Thursday, it was announced that the Airline would provide a non-stop flight from College Station, Texas, to Miami, Florida, for the matchup, meaning that Hard Rock Stadium will likely see a sizable influx of Aggies, especially current students. A return flight is scheduled a day after the game on Sept. 10.

Back on Saturday, Sept. 17, during the 2022 campaign, quarterback Max Johnson completed 10-20 for 140 yards and 1 TD while A&M’s defense bent but refused to break while being outgained on the ground (175-to-124 rushing yards) and through the air (217-to-140 passing yards), escaping with a 17-9 win.

Redshirt junior quarterback Tyler Van Dyke is slated to return as the starting signal caller for the Hurricanes. At the same time, sophomore and former five-star quarterback Conner Weigman is presumed to start his first entire season with the Aggies in what would also be his first true road test as the starter, so the headlines essentially write themselves. This will be a fun one, folks, and for every Aggie who will have the opportunity to attend the game, American Airlines has you covered.

Texas A&M vs. Miami highlighted in College Sports Wire’s must-see football games for the 2023 season

As Texas A&M enters a crucial fall season, the Aggies’ matchup with Miami on September 9 ranks among College Sports Wire’s list of can’t-miss games.

With just mere months separating us between a thrilling college football season, there’s never a better time to plan ahead and pinpoint the best games to tune into for every Saturday afternoon.

Patrick Conn of College Sports Wire put together a beast of a breakdown that highlights one must-see game for every week of the 2023 college football season. With the Maroon and White entering a crucial fall season, the September 9 matchup between Texas A&M and Miami cracked the list of can’t-miss games as an honorable mention.

Here’s the reasoning behind the Aggies-Hurricanes matchup being one you can’t miss out on:

Last year the Aggies came away victorious after defending their home turf. Now Miami gets the Texas A&M on South Beach, looking for retribution.

The Aggies have faced the Hurricanes four times between 1944-2022, sporting a .500 record at 2-2. As mentioned in the original piece, the Maroon and White successfully defended their home turf back in September with a 17-9 win, as the Aggies defense held the Hurricanes to single-digits despite being outgained on the ground (175-to-124 rushing yards) and through the air (217-to-140 passing yards).

At the time, quarterback Max Johnson completed 10-of-20 pass attempts with a touchdown without throwing an interception, but as it pertains to their rematch in the fall, it seems likely that it will be second-year signal-caller Conner Weigman under center for the Aggies.

In five starts for A&M last season, Weigman completed 55.3 percent of his passes for 896 yards and eight touchdowns without an interception. After being thrust into the fire as a true freshman, Weigman is a name to watch as he returns in year two with a new offensive coordinator in Bobby Petrino, whose track record of success with quarterbacks speaks for itself.

Much like the Aggies added Petrino to breathe some new life into an offense that ranked 101st in scoring a year ago (22.8 PPG), the Canes also hired a new OC in Shannon Dawson. Dawson makes his way from Houston as the Cougars come off of their best season in recent memory (8-5 record) while ranking 17th in scoring (36.1 PPG).

It’s safe to say that both of these programs are looking to make a resounding statement early on into the 2023 season. Picking up a win on September 9, all while flexing the impact of their new OCs, is just one of many reasons to tune into this matchup come fall.

Georgia DT Bear Alexander to choose between Texas, others on Sunday

Bear Alexander has set his announcement date.

Georgia transfer defensive tackle Bear Alexander is set to make his transfer decision on Sunday. The choice of destination could have have a huge impact on the college football world in 2023.

The heavy favorite and likely pick for Alexander is Lincoln Riley’s USC Trojans. The move would abandon defensive coordinator Alex Grinch’s philosophy on defensive linemen and give Southern California a huge presence on the inside.

Texas was also listed as one of the top schools for the former Denton Ryan football player. Albeit as of Friday the Longhorns were not likely to push hard for the interior defensive linemen according to Inside Texas. There’s a real possibility the talented player simply listed the team as one of his top schools to add to suspense.

Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis already added veteran depth at defensive tackle with Trill Carter from Minnesota. Time will tell if the Longhorns are a serious contender in the race.

Alexander is set to choose between USC, Colorado, Texas, Oregon, Miami and Penn State on Sunday night.

Texas A&M versus Miami rated as one of the best college football matchups in 2023

Mark your calendars for September 9 as the Aggies take on the Hurricanes in one of the best college football matchups in 2023.

Mark your calendars, make plans with family and friends, and tell anyone else you’ll be busy when the Texas A&M Aggies face the Miami Hurricanes on September 9, in what is pegged as a must-watch matchup in all of college football.

The Maroon and White will travel to South Beach for a head-to-head with the Miami Hurricanes in what 247Sports has highlighted as one of the best college football matchups in 2023. Both of these programs are looking to add to the win column and spark a much-needed turnaround this fall.

Rewind to last year and you’ll remember that both of these programs began the season in the top 20 before stumbling to a combined record of 14-20 and missing out on bowl season. Jimbo Fisher and Mario Cristobal have each added new offensive coordinators and still have talented recruiting classes that should give a boost this coming season.

Is it premature to say that the outcome of this Week 2 matchup could set the tone for the rest of the Aggies season?

There is no lack of storylines surrounding Jimbo’s need for a big season as a means of cooling off that hot seat of his. The addition of Bobby Petrino only adds further pressure to prove that the pairing will work. If the Aggies fall to the Hurricanes in Week 2 while mimicking last season’s struggles, the outside noise could be deafening.

On the contrary, if the Maroon and White make easy work of Miami in a thorough blowout, it will be an early indication of the promising trajectory of this program, led by Conner Weigman under center for year two. The icing on the cake would be the Aggies faithful having a field day in drumming up those Texas A&M hot takes from the cynics.

The Week 2 matchup will mark the fifth time that these two programs have met with the series tied at two wins apiece. The Aggies won the most recent head-to-head in last year’s Week 3 matchup at College Station, fending off then-ranked No. 13 Miami 17-9.

Buy or Sell: Will Texas and these teams emerge as contenders?

We separate legitimate teams from counterfeit contenders.

It’s still early in the college football offseason, but that isn’t stopping plenty of outlets from projecting surprise contenders for the 2023 season. As is often the case, the Texas Longhorns are one of the trending breakout teams.

Often the teams nobody expects to cross the 10-win threshold emerge as playoff contenders.

Last season, the TCU Horned Frogs went from 5-7 to their first ever playoff berth. The Washington Huskies enjoyed a similar turnaround in 2022.

The year before saw Pittsburgh, Wake Forest and NC State surprise as Clemson took a step back.

While its hardly ever Miami, Texas or Nebraska who reach new heights, their track record of winning raises expectations for each team. Let’s look at whose hype we’re buying and selling for the 2023 season.
