College football is back this weekend in Gainesville but there’s plenty of news from the soccer, golf and tennis teams who are in action.

It is finally the beginning of another game week for the Florida Gators after a two-week layoff due to an outbreak of the novel coronavirus on the team. With the positive tests hopefully in the rearview mirror, Gators fans can start looking ahead to Halloween, when they face the Missouri Tigers.

While the football team sat, plenty of other Florida athletic clubs saw action this past weekend, starting with the men’s tennis team who participated in the Gamecock Fall SEC Shootout in Columbia, S.C. — the second of three tournaments UF plays in this fall. The competition was cut short by foul weather on Sunday, but the Gators ultimately went 20-7 overall.

On Sunday, the soccer team was also in South Carolina to play the Lady Gamecocks and were unfortunately on the losing end of the match, falling 4-2. The loss — the first final score to be determined by more than one goal all season — drops the Lady Gators’ record this fall to 1-3-1 overall and winless in the SEC.

The men’s golf team kicked off its first round at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate on Sunday and finished the day sitting in eighth place behind a 7-under par performance. The all-SEC tournament in Nashville, Tenn., continues today and concludes on Tuesday.

Finally, the women’s golf team play the first of three rounds in the East Lake Cup held in Atlanta, Ga. — their third and final tournament of the season. Florida will face Ole Miss, South Carolina and Texas in the event.
