AUGUSTA, Ga. — The cervezas are on Jon Rahm tonight. And the next few nights.

The 28-year-old Spaniard claimed his second major title on Sunday at the 2023 Masters at Augusta National Golf Club, earning a green jacket and a cool $3.24 million for his four-shot victory over runners-up Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka, who will each take home $1.58 million.

This year’s event set a pair of records in regard to prize money, with an $18 million purse, up from $15 million in 2022 and $11.5 million in 2021. Not only that, Rahm’s payday is slightly more than the $2.7 million that Scottie Scheffler earned last year.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — It pays to play well at Augusta National.

This year’s 86th Masters Tournament is setting a pair of records in regards to prize money, with the 2022 event boasting a $15 million purse, up from $11.5 million in 2021. The winner will take home $2.7 million, up from the $2.07 million Hideki Matsuyama earned last year.

Second and third place will each earn seven-figure checks, with the runner-up taking home $1.62 million and third $1.02 million.

Horton Smith earned $1,500 for his win at the first-ever Masters. Ben Crenshaw was the first six-figure winner in 1984, taking home $108,000. Tiger Woods won in 2001, the first time the Masters champion earned more than 1 million ($1,008,000).

Professional players that failed to make the cut – like Jordan Spieth, Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau – earn $10,000. The six amateur players in the field do not receive money.
