Rutgers women’s basketball continues its slide at Ohio State

Rutgers women’s basketball lost at Ohio State.

On Thursday night, Rutgers women’s basketball continued to struggle in Big Ten play. They dropped their seventh straight game and had no answer for Ohio State as the Buckeyes rolled to a 90-55 win. In their latest victory, Ohio State got offense from various sources.

While four Ohio State players scored at least 10 points, Madison Greene set the tone offensively. The Pickingerton native led the Buckeyes in scoring with 16 points while adding four rebounds to her resume. It marked the first time this season that she scored more than six points.

On a night when Rutgers was outplayed, Destiny Adams was a bright spot. The New Jersey native scored 18 points and hauled in seven rebounds. She was the only Rutgers player that scored more than 10 points.

In this matchup, Rutgers put themselves in an early hole with a dreadful start. At the end of the first half, the Buckeyes had a 55-21 lead. During the second half, their dominance continued with a 17-2 run in the third quarter.

Additionally, Ohio State was deadly from the three-point range. The Buckeyes made 11 three-pointers and Rutgers made two. While Thursday night did not go as planned, Rutgers will have to move on quickly. They have one day off before facing Penn State on Saturday.

Buckeyes on the Bubble: Women’s Basketball earns resume-boosting win over Indiana

The Ohio State Women’s Basketball team made its NCAA tournament dreams a lot safer with a huge road win at Indiana.

We’ve been following Ohio State Women’s Basketball’s bubble status for a while now, mostly because it’s been so volatile.

The Buckeyes started the season with a mix of bad losses and good wins, including an upset of then-No. 2 Louisville. They continued in this manner all year–winning enough to stay in the bracket, but losing some head-scratchers.

When we last checked on Ohio State’s bubble status, we assumed that the Buckeyes needed to go 4-2 in its final six games to feel safe, and 3-3 at the very least.

Well, two games later, and Ohio State is definitely on the right side of the bubble. Not only did the Buckeyes drop 99 points in a win over Minnesota on Thursday, but they went to Bloomington and upset No. 20 Indiana on the road on Sunday.

The Buckeyes, led by Madison Greene’s 22 points, came back from a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit to pull off the upset. Ohio State exploded for 31 points in the final 7:45 of the fourth quarter, including 14 by Greene. The Buckeyes took the lead with a 25-8 run and never relinquished it. Jacy Sheldon, Dorka Juhasz, and Janai Crooms also scored double digits for the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes have now won five straight and are up to No. 22 in the RPI (women’s basketball doesn’t use the NET rankings). Ohio State also has two Top 20 RPI wins, with good SOS numbers. It’s a little early to call Ohio State safe for the bracket–the Buckeyes should still avoid losses to Nebraska and maybe Purdue, but the path to the bracket just got much easier. A win over Rutgers or Northwestern would all but cement it.

Ohio State women’s basketball upsets No. 24 Michigan

The Ohio State women’s basketball team upset No. 24 Michigan on Thursday night behind a career night from freshman Madison Greene.

It’s always noteworthy when Ohio State beats Michigan in anything. So … consider the following news item. The Buckeye women’s basketball team disposed of a nationally ranked Michigan team Thursday night.

It was a nip and tuck affair all the way through, with the Buckeyes making plays at the end and from the free-throw line to seal the deal with a final score of 78-69. The game was much closer than the final score would indicate.

Ohio State used a career night from freshman Madison Greene. The 5-8 Pickerington product scored a game-high 23 points on 8 of 10 shooting for the night, and it wasn’t just scattered and folded into the game. Eight of Greene’s points came in the decisive fourth quarter when Ohio State went on a run to take control at the very end.

Greene went 2 for 3 from beyond the arc, made all three buckets she attempted in the last quarter, and also had a game-high three steals to round out a solid box score.

With the win, the Ohio State women improve to 9-6 overall, and 2-2 in the Big Ten, but now have three upsets over ranked squads in 2019. If it can continue to get nights like this from Greene, and the other youngsters continue to develop, the Buckeyes could have a say in what happens the rest of the way in the league.

For now though, Buckeye Nation will once again revel in another win over That Team Up North. The lady Bucks are back in action against Penn State at home on Sunday.
