Jaguars add veteran long snapper Garrison Sanborn to practice squad

The Jaguars brought in two long snappers and two linebackers for tryouts Tuesday and signed one to the practice squad.

The Jacksonville Jaguars brought four players in for a tryout Tuesday and signed one: veteran long snapper Garrison Sanborn.

Sanborn, 37, went undrafted after playing collegiately at Florida State, but stuck with the Buffalo Bills where he was the team’s long snapper for eight seasons. He spent four of the last five years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and one season with the San Francisco 49ers.

He was released by the Buccaneers near the end of the 2021 season and hasn’t been a roster since. Sanborn was one of two long snappers who tried out for the Jaguars on Tuesday, along with Steven Wirtel, a former Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Rams, and Green Bay Packers player.

Jacksonville also brought in former Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Jordan Evans and former Rams and Denver Broncos linebacker Kenny Young for tryouts.

The Jaguars’ long snapping duties have been handled by Ross Matiscik since the beginning of the 2020 season. Matiscik is under contract through the 2026 season.

Saints report multiple roster moves, promote practice squad LB Nephi Sewell

Saints report multiple roster moves, promote LB Nephi Sewell from their practice squad:

This might be ominous for Pete Werner’s status. The New Orleans Saints signed a pair of linebackers on Thursday after their starting weakside linebacker exited Monday night’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens with an ankle injury, filing a quick list of roster moves on the daily NFL transactions wire.

But this isn’t all about Werner. New Orleans also lost backup linebacker Chase Hansen with a knee injury last week, so they needed multiple players to reinforce the depth chart. And they’ve made other moves at different roster spots. Let’s break it all down:

Bucs make roster move after Week 5 win vs. Falcons

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are shuffling their roster following Sunday’s win over the Atlanta Falcons

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released linebacker Kenny Young, the team announced Monday.

Young was originally signed to the Bucs’ practice squad, but was elevated to the active roster last month. The team has yet to announce a corresponding move to fill the open spot on their active roster.

After spending most of his time in Tampa Bay on special teams, Young will now have an opportunity to catch on elsewhere.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have filled the final spot on their 16-man practice squad, signing veteran linebacker Kenny Young on Monday.

A fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft out of UCLA, Young started his NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens, but was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 2019. Last year, he was dealt yet again, this time to the Denver Broncos, before spending this year’s training camp with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Young has 184 career tackles and 5.5 sacks in 59 career games (25 starts), and brings valuable depth, experience, and special teams value to Tampa Bay as they look ahead to Week 1 of the 2022 regular season.

Raiders sign free agent LB Kenny Young

Raiders sign former Rams, Broncos LB Kenny Young

With a couple of roster spots available after the draft and undrafted free agent signings, the Raiders continue to add players today. They have signed former Rams and Broncos linebacker Kenny Young.

The 6-1, 235-pounder was originally a fourth round pick by the Ravens in the 2018 draft out of UCLA.

After spending the better part of two seasons with the Rams, he was traded to the Broncos midway through last season.

Young started 13 games split between the Broncos and Rams in 2021 putting up 75 combined tackles, six tackles for loss and two sacks, making for his best season in the pros.

The 27-year-old inside linebacker joins a group led by Denzel Perryman coming off his first Pro Bowl in 2021. The Raiders also added Jayon Brown, Micah Kiser, and Kyler Fackrell this offseason.

Ex-Broncos LB Kenny Young signs with Raiders

Kenny Young is staying in the AFC West, signing with the Raiders.

Former Denver Broncos inside linebacker Kenny Young has signed with the Las Vegas Raiders, according to the NFL’s transaction wire.

Young (6-1, 234 pounds) entered the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens as a fourth-round pick out of UCLA in the 2018 NFL draft. He was later traded to the Los Angeles Rams midway through his second season.

Young then played in all 16 games for the Rams in 2020, earning six starts. He totaled 53 tackles, one sack, one interception and one defensive touchdown that season.

Young was then traded again midway through his fourth season, this time to the Broncos. He was a six-game starter for Denver last year following injuries to Josey Jewell and Alexander Johnson at inside linebacker. Young recorded 29 tackles and forced one fumble in his six games with the Broncos last fall.

Denver opted to re-sign Jewell to a two-year, $11 million contract this offseason, which seemingly made Young expendable for the Broncos. Johnson, meanwhile, remains a free agent.
