Jim Nantz got caught in the moment when he called Josh Allen’s TD run the play of the year

Jim Nantz was a little too rash about Josh Allen’s clutch TD run.

For the fourth straight year, the Buffalo Bills managed to beat their top rival, the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs, in the regular season. The game was officially salted away when Josh Allen converted an incredible 26-yard touchdown run on a fourth-and-short play late in the fourth quarter.

Beyond thinking about another potential classic playoff matchup between Allen and Patrick Mahomes this January, it was pretty weird hearing CBS announcer Jim Nantz call Allen’s touchdown run “the play of the year” in that moment.

While it was indeed the final turning point between two of the NFL’s very best teams, I don’t think anyone in their right mind would’ve called that run the best play of this entire NFL season. And Nantz’s explanation about the stakes doesn’t really track for me, either.

I think Nantz got a little caught up in the emotion of the moment:

Look, in a year that featured a remarkable Hail Mary win from the Washington Commanders, it’s gonna take a lot to top that individual moment. For me, a play of the year should be unbelievable and have a lot of stakes. The Commanders’ Hail Mary slayed a then-good Chicago Bears team on the most unlikely play to score in football.

Allen’s run was a big moment for the Bills and the league, but it was otherwise a pretty standard run by a great athlete if you strip away its situational context. He found open space and made a good defense pay in a mostly standard fashion to win the game. I can usually imagine Allen making this run in a clutch situation. It’s not the play of the year.

It’s as simple as that.

Bills QB Josh Allen grown man run takes down Chiefs to end win streak

Josh Allen put the Bills on this back to knock the Chiefs from the ranks of the unbeaten.

The Bills did it. They became the first team to take down the Chiefs since the Raiders did it on Christmas day of last season. And thus their win-streak finally comes to an end at 15 games.

Since that seemingly unlikely loss to the Raiders last season, the Chiefs rattled off six straight wins, including the Super Bowl.

They continued that win streak through the first nine games of this season, becoming the last remaining undefeated team. Now there are none.

It was a close game throughout as you would expect between these two NFL juggernauts. This included five lead changes in the first half with a 16-14 Bills lead at the half.

The Bills still led by just two points late in the fourth quarter. With just under eight minutes remaining, the Bills took the ball and drove 70 yards for the game-clinching touchdown. This included two third down conversions — including a completion on third and nine from Josh Allen to Khalil Shakir — and a miraculous 23-yard run by Allen on 4th and two.

The Bills improve to 9-2 on the season, while the Chiefs fall to 9-1.

Mics picked up the classy message that Patrick Mahomes had for Josh Allen after the Bills’ win

So much respect.

There aren’t many rivalries in the NFL better than what we’ve seen from Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. The two quarterbacks continually battle in classic games, and it’s a rivalry that is fueled by respect rather than animosity.

That was clear once again on Sunday.

In an absolutely electric scene at Highmark Stadium, the Buffalo Bills handed the Chiefs their first loss of the season. And while Kansas City showed signs of rallying in the fourth quarter, it was Allen who closed the door with his touchdown run to stretch the game to two possessions.

And if we’ve learned anything from Chiefs-Bills games in the Mahomes-Allen era, it’s that we’ll probably get more of it in January. Mahomes was thinking that when the two players met at midfield after the Bills’ 30-21 win.

Mics picked up Mahomes saying to Allen, “We’ll do it again, baby.”

Let’s hope so. These games almost never disappoint.

Update: The NFL posted the full exchange, and we could hear as Allen had a similar message.

The Bills have gotten a clutch, late touchdown from their quarterback against the Chiefs.

The Bills took a 30-21 lead over the Chiefs in the fourth quarter and decided to be bold. On fourth down, they went for it and got it.

Not only that, Allen rushed it all the way in for a touchdown.

Former Duke football star Noah Gray scores his first touchdown of the NFL season

Former Duke football star Noah Gray, now playing for the Kansas City Chiefs, scored his first touchdown of the 2024 season on Sunday.

Former Duke football star Noah Gray scored his first touchdown of the 2024 season on Sunday in one of the biggest games of the NFL season.

Gray, now a member of the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs (9-0), caught a 2-yard scoring pass from superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the final three minutes of the first half against the Buffalo Bills (8-2).

The Chiefs, as the last undefeated team in the league, entered Sunday’s game with a chance to take command of the top seed in the AFC. Gray’s touchdown put them back in front by a single point.

Kansas City drafted Gray in the fifth round back in 2021, and he entered Sunday’s game with 866 receiving yards and four touchdowns for his career. He put together one of the best games of his career against the San Francisco 49ers on October 20, picking up 66 yards on four receptions, and he amassed 19 receptions for 221 yards through the Chiefs’ first nine games.

Gray ended his four-year collegiate career with 105 receptions for 948 yards and eight touchdowns in Durham. His best year came in 2019 when he caught 51 passes for 392 yards and three scores.

The Bills took an early lead on the Chiefs and Amari Cooper played his part.

The receiver made a huge one-handed catch down the sideline for his team right after safety Taylor Rapp recorded an interception against Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes.

Cooper’s grab comes after he was listed on the injury report in recent weeks because of a wrist issue.

After Cooper’s play, running back James Cook eventually rushed in a touchdown. That score put the Bills up 6-0 after a missed extra point by kicker Tyler Bass.

Cooper’s grab can be found in the clip below:

Did Taylor Swift attend Travis Kelce’s game for Chiefs-Bills on Sunday afternoon?

With a break in her touring schedule, did the 14-time Grammy winner make the trip to Orchard Park?

With a break in the Eras Tour schedule, there was a question as to whether pop icon Taylor Swift would make her first 2024 season appearance at a Chiefs road game to support boyfriend Travis Kelce. The 14-time Grammy winner just completed three shows at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, with three more next weekend.

It would have been a quick trip from Toronto to Kansas City’s game in Buffalo this weekend, but Swift decided to avoid the away game this week. The The Tortured Poets Department singer was there for the Chiefs’ postseason victory over the Bills in Orchard Park back in January, but recent reports have shared that it may not have been much of an enjoyable experience.

There are two more home games for the Chiefs this month — against the Panthers and Raiders — so we may see Swift back at an NFL game soon.

Broncos announce uniform combo for game vs. Falcons

The Broncos will wear orange jerseys and orange pants against the Falcons today.

The Denver Broncos will wear orange jerseys and orange pants at home against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 11, the team announced Sunday.

This marks the fourth time the Broncos have worn their primary orange jersey this fall, and the first time the team has worn orange tops with orange bottoms. They are 2-1 in primary orange this season.

Denver previously announced the team’s jersey color for all 17 games earlier this year, but players pick the color of their pants each week. The Broncos’ home games this fall will feature jersey colors white (once), blue (once), throwback (twice) and orange (four times).

On the road, Denver had one orange jersey game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3. Besides that Bucs contest, the Broncos’ eight other road games will all feature white jerseys.

After making its debut in Week 5 against the Las Vegas Raiders, Denver’s popular 1977-inspired throwback uniform will return when the Broncos host the Kansas City Chiefs in their season finale in Week 18.

Will Taylor Swift be at Travis Kelce’s game for Chiefs-Bills?

Will Taylor Swift be there for the Week 11 game?

It’s that time again.

Travis Kelce is back to playing NFL games in 2024, and Taylor Swift has had some time when she could once again come to cheer him on at Kansas City Chiefs games. She was there for the Week 1 win and attended the Week 2 victory. She wasn’t there for the Week 3 game in Atlanta or Week 4 in L.A., but she showed up to Week 5 against the Saints and was there for the Week 9 game against the Buccaneers and Week 10 for the Broncos game.

So the question is: will she be there for the Week 11 matchup on Sunday afternoon between the Chiefs and the Bills? According to our handy Taylor Swift calendar, and, well, what we know, the answer is: maybe?

Swift has a break from her Toronto shows until Thursday, and the Canadian city just so happens to be near Buffalo, where the Chiefs play. But there’s been a lot of talk about how awful Swift’s experience was when she was there for a playoff game earlier this year.

Plus, she hasn’t been to a Chiefs road game yet this season.

So … we’ll see!
