Auburn in tight battle with USC for four-star safety Anquon Fegans

USC remains the favorite to sign the talented DB from Thompson High School, but Auburn is gaining ground quickly.

The Thompson Warriors have become the state of Alabama’s powerhouse by winning four of the last five Class 7A state championships. Safety [autotag]Anquon Fegans[/autotag] has been a major reason why.

Fegans, a four-star safety, has recorded 176 tackles in three seasons as a varsity player for the Warriors, with five tackles for loss and 18 interceptions. He is one of the most sought-after recruits for the 2025 cycle, and it is easy to see why Auburn is working to keep him within the state’s borders.

Auburn is trending upward in Fegans’ recruitment, and one recruiting expert is ready to throw in his prediction. Cole Pinkston of Auburn Live has logged an “expert pick” for Auburn to land Fegans, joining Jeffrey Lee in doing so.

Fegans visited Auburn last month, where he spent time with defensive backs coaches [autotag]Charles Kelly[/autotag] and [autotag]Wesley McGriff[/autotag]. Fegans also mentioned to On3 that defensive backs [autotag]Antonio Kite[/autotag] and former Thompson teammate [autotag]Kaleb Harris[/autotag] are joining Auburn’s coaches in his recruiting efforts.

USC remains the favorite to land Fegans with a 50.1% forecast from On3, but Auburn is next at 41.8%. Fegans is a four-star safety according to all four major recruiting outlets. By On3’s standards, Fegans is the nation’s No. 4 safety for the 2025 cycle and is the No. 3 overall recruit from the state of Alabama.

Kicker Towns McGough signs with hometown Auburn Tigers

The Auburn High product is the nation’s No. 3 ranked kicker by Kohl’s Kicking Camp ranking.

The tradition of “Kicker U” is alive and well at Auburn University.

Hugh Freeze has signed his future kicker in [autotag]Towns McGough[/autotag], a three-star kicker from Auburn High School.

McGough earned All-American honors from both MaxPreps and Under Armour, and he competed in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game alongside fellow Auburn signees [autotag]Perry Thompson[/autotag], [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag], and [autotag]Kaleb Harris[/autotag].

He chose a preferred walk-on offer from Auburn over a scholarship to Ole Miss. According to Auburn Undercover, an NIL deal from Auburn is expected to offset the cost of the lack of scholarship. His signing is expected to keep Auburn’s lineage of accurate kickers intact.

McGough was Auburn High’s leading scorer this season securing 105 points. He was 19-of-22 on field goal attempts and connected on six kicks of over 50 yards, including one of 60 yards.

Amon Lane-Ganus officially signs with Auburn

Auburn’s first commit of the 2024 class is now an official member of the program.

Auburn’s first commit of the 2024 recruiting cycle is now a member of the roster.

[autotag]Amon Lane-Ganus[/autotag], a four-star defensive back from Moody, Alabama, has officially signed with Auburn. Lane-Ganus announced his commitment to the program in July 2022 and has honored his commitment through the firing of [autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag] and the first season of the [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] era.

Lane-Ganus is the No. 22 recruit from the state of Alabama for the 2024 cycle and is the No. 21 overall cornerback. He is one of five defensive backs to sign with Auburn during the early signing period, joining [autotag]Laquon Robinson[/autotag], [autotag]Kensley Faustin[/autotag], [autotag]Jaylin Crawford[/autotag], and [autotag]Kaleb Harris[/autotag].

In-state safety Kaleb Harris signs with Auburn

Kaleb Harris has the ability to play all over for Auburn’s defense.

Coming off an extremely successful high school career at Thompson, three-star safety [autotag]Kaleb Harris[/autotag] has signed his letter of intent with the Auburn Tigers.

Listed as a safety, Harris can play several spots for [autotag]Rob Roberts[/autotag]’ defense, he has the physicality to play a linebacker role near the line of scrimmage as well as helping out in coverage as a safety or at star.

That versatility will be critical in a secondary that is losing all four of its starters at safety and cornerback to the NFL. The only returning starter is star [autotag]Keionte Scott[/autotag], who will be transitioning to outside corner. Harris is not as highly rated as some of Auburn’s signees in the secondary but he has the ability to push for early playing time and will be a name to watch next season.

Harris is the No. 646 overall player and No. 69 safety in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is also the No. 32 player from Alabama.

Cam Coleman, Kaleb Harris headline a star-studded Super 7

The AHSAA State football championships kickoff this week in Tuscaloosa, and Auburn will be well represented on the field.

Auburn has recruited the state of Alabama well so far through the 2024 recruiting cycle, as three of the state’s top five prospects are committed to play for [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and the Tigers.

This week will be special, as many of Auburn’s 2024 commitments are competing for state championships this week at Tuscaloosa’s Bryant-Denny Stadium. Auburn fans will get a chance to see several of Auburn’s prized commitments on the field one final time before they sign with Auburn later this month in the event known simply as “Super 7.”

This year’s event kicks off with the 7A championship game between Central Phenix City and Thompson on Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT.

The game is headlined by the five-star receiver and the state’s top prospect [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag], who recently flipped his commitment from Texas A&M to Auburn. His Central Phenix City Red Devil squad will compete with Thompson, which is home to three-star safety commitment [autotag]Kaleb Harris[/autotag].

The next game that features an Auburn commit will take place on Friday at 7 p.m. CT when Clay-Chalkville faces Saraland in the 6A championship.

Clay-Chalkville has three players who are ranked in the top 35 of the 247Sports recruiting rankings, including three-star linebacker commitment [autotag]D’Angelo Barber[/autotag].

The 6A championship is also worth watching as Alabama’s top 2025 prospect, [autotag]Ryan Williams[/autotag], plays wide receiver for Saraland. Williams is currently committed to Alabama and is expected to re-classify to the 2024 class. Auburn is working to possibly flip Williams ahead of signing day.

Fans can watch every AHSAA Super 7 game on NFHS Network.

DB target Kaleb Harris to commit ‘very soon’

Harris was on the Plains to watch Auburn play Ole Miss and it sounds like he is nearly ready to announce his commitment.

Secondary coach [autotag]Zac Etheridge[/autotag] and Auburn have been pursuing in-state safety [autotag]Kaleb Harris[/autotag] for years and that hard work could be paying off soon.

The Alabaster, Alabama product visited the Plains this weekend to watch Auburn take on Ole Miss and spoke with Auburn Undercover’s Christian Clemente after the game and revealed he will be committing “very soon.”

Harris has seen his recruitment take off due to a strong senior season for Thompson High School. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder has made 59 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss and picked off three passes in six games.

The visit allowed him to see what his role could be on the Plains.

“I think I could fit where Keionte Scott plays, that nickel,” Harris explained. “I can play in the box, I can blitz, I can cover. I think that’s my best fit.”

Harris is the No. 679 overall player and No. 74 safety in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is also the No. 31 player from Alabama. Auburn has received two crystal ball predictions to land Harris from 237Sports writers.

Auburn trending for in-state safety Kaleb Harris

Auburn could be adding another talented player to an impressive haul in the secondary.

Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class took a blow on Tuesday when four-star athlete [autotag]Jalewis Solomon[/autotag] decommitted but help could be on the way as Auburn has ramped up its recruitment of three-star safety [autotag]Kaleb Harris[/autotag].

The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder is having a breakout season for the Thompson Warriors. In five games he has made 54 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, picked off four passes, broken up three more, forced a fumble and recovered another one.

Secondary coach [autotag]Zac Etheridge[/autotag] is leading the charge for Auburn and while several programs are in pursuit of Harris, two recruiting experts believe Auburn will land him.

Auburn Undercover’s Christian Clemente logged a crystal ball for Auburn to land Harris on Tuesday and Hale McGranahan of The BigSpur followed suit on Wednesday.

Harris is the No. 671 overall player and No. 68 safety in the 247Sports composite ranking. The Alabaster native is also the No. 31 player from Alabama.

If Auburn is able to land him, he would be their 18th commitment and fifth in the secondary, joining four-star safety [autotag]Kensley Faustin[/autotag] and four-star cornerbacks [autotag]A’Mon Lane[/autotag], [autotag]Jayden Lewis[/autotag] and [autotag]Jalyn Crawford[/autotag].

Tigers offer three-star 2024 DB

LSU is targeting an Alabama prospect that doesn’t have a ton of recruiting interest so far.

[autotag]Kaleb Harris[/autotag] is a five-foot-eleven, 165-pound defensive back from Alabaster, Alabama, where he plays for Thompson High School. The Thompson Warriors won the 7A state championship in Alabama last year.

Not much is known about Harris yet. He is just starting to emerge on recruiting radars as he enters his junior year at Thompson. He will get plenty of looks as the nationally ranked Warriors play a tough schedule including Buford, Clay-Chalkville, and Hoover high school.

Thompson has a pretty steady pipeline of defensive backs going division one once they graduate from there. They are well-coached and very talented. Harris looks to fit that mold, and he is a player that I will surely be keeping an eye on this season.

BKFC 10 results, highlights: Hector Lombard decisions David Mundell in debut

Hector Lombard, who left the UFC on a six-fight losing streak, found success in his new fighting home.

[autotag]Hector Lombard[/autotag] is back in the winner’s circle.

The former Bellator middleweight champion didn’t have the greatest end to his run in the UFC, where he lost his last six fights.

But “Lightning” made his Bare Knuckle FC debut on Saturday night, and it paid off with a main-event victory over [autotag]David Mundell[/autotag] in the main event of BKFC 10 at the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Convention Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Lombard defeated David Mundell in a cruiserweight bout via unanimous decision by scores of 49-46, 48-47, and 48-47.

“I was aggressive, and I scored the points,” Lombard said after the bout. “He was backing up the whole time, but my hat off to him. I never thought it was going to be that tough, but he put up a good fight.

“I wanted to be in bare knuckle because I wanted the experience, and now I have it,” he continued. “I’m pretty sure I have to change my gameplan and some little things, but it was an amazing experience.”

[lawrence-related id=489926,490085,482752]

As the two 48-47 scores indicate, the bout was competitive, and Mundell is hoping to run the fight back.

“I kept the distance really well,” said Mundell, a former Bellator competitor. “I played the better boxing game. I understand this is bare knuckle, and everybody wants to see us slug it out, and he gave more pressure. I give him props for that, but let’s run it back and see what happens.”

In the co-featured bout, former Cage Warriors featherweight champion and UFC competitor [autotag]Jim Alers[/autotag] improved to 4-0 in BKFC with a majority decision over [autotag]Kaleb Harris[/autotag] at 155 pounds. The judges’ scores were 50-44, 48-46, and 47-47.

“Our game plan was to just stay in his face,” said Alers, who scored a first-round knockdown en route to victory. “He had long range and good power. I wanted to stay close, use my clinch, not get hit by those hooks. He’s a tough (guy), though. I hit him with some hard shots, and he just kept on coming.”

Check out the highlights from BKFC 10 in the video above.
