Michigan State football kicker Jonathan Kim appears to be ‘locked in’ to return for 2024 season

Michigan State football found an absolute gem this past season when they secured the transfer of kicker Jonathan Kim from North Carolina. Now, it looks like the Spartans will get one more year out of the talented kicker.

On Tuesday, Kim posted a screenshot of him texting new head coach Jonathan Smith ‘I’m locked in here’, seeming to confirm that he will be back for the 2024 season.

Kim was 13-for-18 on field goals last year, and even hit a 58-yarder. He’s also one of the top kickoff specialists in the country.

MSU K Jonathan Kim reveals he’s capable of hitting 60+ yard field goal

Michigan State’s new kicker could be a real game-changer for the Spartans this fall

Michigan State’s new kicker could be a real game-changer for the Spartans this fall.

Jonathan Kim made his Michigan State debut this past weekend, hitting a 47-yard field goal in the season-opening win against Central Michigan. That was a refreshing sight for Spartans fans everywhere after kicking struggles last year. But that apparently wasn’t even Kim’s max distance.

Kim was quoted this week saying he’s comfortable hitting a 62-yard field goal when there’s no win and that he’s made a 65-yarder in practice before. That’s pretty impressive and could be the difference Michigan State needs in a game or two this fall.

As DJ Khaled once said… “ANOTHER ONE!!!”

That’s how the night has been going for Michigan State football, who have racked up multiple commitments on Wednesday night. The latest? Kicker Jonathan Kim from North Carolina, who the Spartans just offered last week.

Kim was the kickoff specialist for North Carolina last year and is known as one of the best in the country at that role, but was looking for an opportunity to kick field goals, and Michigan State certainly could use some help there.
