Former Vol Jon Higgins named head coach at Science Hill.

Former Vol Jon Higgins has been named as the boys basketball head coach at Science Hill High School in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Higgins inherits a Hilltoppers’ program that went 31-6 last season and reached the sectional round of the TSAA Class 4A state playoffs.

Higgins served as head coach at Farragut High School in Farragut, Tennessee for the previous five years and won 83 games.

He was the 2021-22 District 4-4A Coach of the Year after leading the Admirals to a regular season district co-championship.

The former Vol also served as Farragut’s golf head coach.

Higgins played point guard for the Vols from 1999-2003.

Former Vol Jon Higgins has been named District 4-AAAA Coach of the Year. Higgins serves as Farragut High School’s head coach in Farragut, Tennessee.

He guided Farragut to a District 4-AAAA regular-season championship in 2021-22.

Higgins played for the Vols from 1999-2003.

He began his high school coaching career as an assistant at Fulton High School in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The former Vol had his first head coaching job at Knoxville Central High School. He took over as Farragut’s boys basketball head coach following the 2016-17 season and became the boys and girls golf head coach in 2019.

He guided Farragut to the 2020 Large Schools Division state golf championship.

A former Tennessee basketball player captured his first coaching victory in one of Knoxville’s oldest and most storied high school rivalries.

Jon Higgins, Farragut High School’s (Farragut, Tennessee) boys basketball head coach, notched his first victory over Bearden High School (Knoxville, Tennessee) Friday.

Farragut won at Bearden, 62-57, in overtime. The win is Farragut’s first against Bearden since 2016.

“You always want to beat Bearden because they’re your bitter rival, but I’m just happy to get a win,” Higgins said. “We’d lost our last two games.”

Higgins began his coaching career as an assistant under Jody Wright at Knoxville’s Fulton High School. He later became head coach at Knoxville Central before landing with the Admirals in 2017.

Higgins is also Farragut’s golf head coach. He guided the Admirals to the Large Schools Division state championship in 2020.

Higgins played basketball for the Volunteers between 1999-2003.

MANCHESTER — Jon Higgins, a former University of Tennessee basketball player, guided the Farragut High School boys golf team to the Class AAA state championship.

The Admirals won the two-day, 36-hole event at WillowBrook Country Club on Wednesday.

Higgins, who also coaches Farragut’s boys basketball team, guided the Admirals’ boys golf team to its seventh state championship in the golf team’s illustrious history.

Farragut also won state championships in 1985, 1991, 1992, 2008, 2009 and 2014.

UT commitment and Admirals’ player Lance Simpson captured low medalist honors with a score of 131.

The Lady Admirals, meanwhile, took third at the state championships.

Higgins, who played basketball for the Vols between 1999-2003, ranks among one of Tennessee’s top career 3-point shooters.
