Joseph Diaz Jr. vs. Javier Fortuna fight odds, picks and prediction

Breaking down Friday’s Joseph Diaz Jr. vs. Javier Fortuna fight, with boxing odds, picks and predictions.

We get a 12-round WBC interim lightweight title bout Friday when Joseph Diaz Jr. and Javier Fortuna meet at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles. The fight will start at approximately 9 p.m. ET. Below, we break down the Diaz Jr. vs. Fortuna odds, with boxing picks and predictions.

The fight card will stream live on DAZN.

Diaz picked up a draw last time against Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, Calif. at 133.5 pounds. He moves up in weight for this bout challenging Fortuna for a shot at Devin Haney. Diaz hasn’t lost in six bouts since a setback at 126 pounds against Gary Allen Russell Jr. in Oxon Hill, Md. back on May 19, 2018.

After a rough 2018 that featured a loss to Robert Easter Jr. and a no-decision against Adrian Granados, Fortuna has pieced together a three-bout win streak. He has a unanimous-decision win over Sharif Bogere  Feb. 9, 2019, a second-round TKO win over Jesus Marcelo Andres Cuellar Nov. 2, 2019, and a sixth-round KO of Antonio Lozada Torres at Staples Center in L.A. Nov. 21, 2020. He enters with a lot of momentum against the challenger.

Diaz Jr. vs. Fortuna: Odds, predictions and picks

Diaz Jr. (-225) steps up in weight to face a rather formidable opponent in Los Angeles, and I don’t like risking more than -180 on a money line unless it’s an absolute sure thing. Fortuna (+190) could easily take this fight, so get more specific with your wagers and limit the risk.

AVOID.

Diaz Jr. vs. Fortuna best bet

I like DIAZ JR. ON POINTS (-125) in this one rather than just playing him straight up. I think the Los Angeles-area native will have the crowd on his side, and that will help him dig down deep late in the match and pull out a victory in the eyes of the judges.

As such, rather than play Diaz Jr. (-225), the more sure bet if you’re willing to risk more than two times your potential return is the fight going the distance. Take YES (-250): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE FULL 12 ROUNDS for much better results.
