With Jonathan Taylor missing at least the first four games of the season and Zack Moss’ status up in the air for the regular-season opener, the Colts are doing their research on available running backs.

Along with the trio of backs, the Colts also held tryouts for three offensive linemen.

Here are the six players the Colts worked out Monday:

9 Giants who aren’t going to make the 53-man roster

The New York Giants must trim their roster to 53 men by 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday and these nine players simply aren’t going to make the cut.

The New York Giants will wrap up the preseason this Saturday night against the New York Jets and then trim their roster down to the required 53 players on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET.

There are many obvious locks to make the 53-man roster and there are a fair share who are certain to be sent on their way. It’s the limited men in the middle who face uncertain and uneasy futures.

Those of us at Giants Wire have already broken down many of the guarantees to make the cut, but now we’re going to look at those who aren’t.

Here are nine Giants who will almost certainly receive their walking papers on Tuesday.

Giants-Panthers preseason Week 2: Offense, defense and special teams snap counts

The New York Giants won their Week 2 preseason game against the Panthers. Here are the snap counts on offense, defense and special teams.

The New York Giants made their 2023 preseason debut at MetLife Stadium on Friday night a picked up a 21-19 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

It was a crisp showing from the first-team offense, led by the dynamic combination of quarterback Daniel Jones and tight end Darren Waller. There was also solid play from the starting offensive line, which seems to have significantly improved their pass protection.

There’s a lot to break down and a lot to go over but before we look ahead, let’s look back. Here are the snap counts that contributed to the Giants’ victory.

Offensive snaps: 65
Defensive snaps: 63
Special teams snaps: 21

After missing the first week of the preseason, second-year right tackle Evan Neal was on the field for 34 offensive snaps — second-most on the team. The Giants obviously wanted to get a good look at him and have Neal knock some of the rust off.

Veteran running back James Robinson took just four snaps and doesn’t seem like a player destined to stick around.

Rookies continue to get plenty of playing time to boost their game experience ahead of the regular season, while fringe players like Oshane Ximines and Carter Coughlin also continue to get extended looks.

Giants fall to Lions: Winners, losers and those in between

The New York Giants fell to the Lions, 21-16, on Friday and here’s a look at our winners and losers (and those in between) from the game.

Editor’s note: Upon reviewing the game, we changed the entry for Deonte Banks, adding detail on what was a bang-bang play and difficult to read in real-time. Giants Wire writers disagreed (and still disagree) on what transpired.

The New York Giants opened the 2023 preseason on Friday night against the Detroit Lions and neither team played their key starters. There were a few spot starters on both sides but predominantly, the game featured depth players.

Accordingly, it was a rather ugly performance for each team. There was more bad than good, and neither coach is going to be particularly happy on Saturday morning.

Here are some winners, losers, and in-betweens from Fright night’s Giants’ victory/defeat.

Former Patriots RB finds new home with Giants

The Giants have reportedly signed a former Patriots running back

The New York Giants signed a former member of the New England Patriots roster on Friday. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Giants and running back James Robinson have agreed to a deal.

Robinson signed a two-year deal with the Patriots back in March. He was released by the organization on June 12, after initially being thought of as a potential depth piece for New England. He had 110 carries for 425 yards and three rushing touchdowns in total when playing with both the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets last season.

Injuries have obviously taken a toll on him since he burst onto the scene with 1,070 rushing yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie. Things didn’t work out with the Jets or New England. So he’ll try again with another clean slate playing for the Giants.

The Patriots have hosted a pair of veteran running backs for workouts, including Leonard Fournette and Darrell Henderson. They also hope to get additional contributions from Kevin Harris, Pierre Strong Jr. and Ty Montgomery.

Ex-Jaguars RB James Robinson signs with Giants

Former Jaguars running back James Robinson is joining the Giants, his third team since getting traded by Jacksonville in October.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson was a fan favorite during his brief tenure in Duval, but he’s had trouble finding footing with a new squad since being traded in October 2022.

After spending most of the latter half of the 2022 season as a healthy scratch for the New York Jets, the 24-year-old running back signed with the New England Patriots in March. He was cut just three months later, though. Now he’s joining the New York Giants.

Robinson was a breakout star for the Jaguars in 2020, earning an immediate starting role as an undrafted rookie. He finished that year with 1,070 rushing yards, 344 receiving yards, and 10 total touchdowns.

Despite bizarre stints on the sideline and discord with Urban Meyer during the 2021 season, Robinson still recorded 989 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdown before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury in December. He returned to score four touchdowns in the first three games of the 2022 season before the Jaguars gradually turned to Travis Etienne Jr. as their featured back.

In New York, Robinson could provide the Giants with some insurance as Saquon Barkley’s contract dispute with the team continues. After not receiving a new deal before the mid-July deadline for franchised players, Barkley has talked about the possibility of sitting out the 2023 season.

The Giants also have running backs Matt Breida, Gary Brightwell, Jashaun Corbin, and Eric Gray on the roster.
