WATCH: Darius Slay baits Jalen Hurts into his first interception of training camp

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay baits Jalen Hurts into his first interception of training camp

Darius Slay finally got Jalen Hurts to make a mistake, and his break on the interception that stopped the Eagles’ quarterback streak of attempts without a turnover was beautiful.

According to 94 WIP’s Eliot Shorr-Parks, who tracks every throw from the starting quarterback, Hurts set the Eagles training camp record for consecutive passes without an interception at 158.

That streak went on for another week and ended with pass No. 305.

The reaction from Eagles defenders on the video proves just how dominant Hurts has been this summer. When Slay stepped in front of that pass and was off to the races, defensive players celebrated and jumped for joy.

“We’re talking about practice,” but Hurts’s efficient play was noticed by Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who raved about his quarterback’s aggressiveness while making good decisions.

Jalen Hurts was among the league leaders in turnovers last season, accounting for 20 total turnovers, including 15 interceptions in 17 games.

The lackluster performance and the Eagles’ late-season collapse resulted in Kellen Moore replacing Brian Johnson as offensive coordinator. Hurts spent the off-season and spring retooling his throwing motion and enhancing his decision-making.

Jabrill Peppers to Jalen Hurts “you know what happened last time”

Jabrill Peppers subtly disses Jalen Hurts in this funny banter after joint practice between #Eagles and #Patriots

There was an amusing moment between Jalen Hurts and Jabril Peppers during the Philadephia Eagles and New England Patriots joint practice camp recently when Peppers explained to QB Hurts that he was just sacked on the last play in the drill.

The moment between them was posted on the official NFL Twitter. It’s worth watching the banter between the two while they laugh about the last time Hurts was sacked by Peppers, who subtly tries to dig into the QB about how hard he was hit.

This part of the practice was no-contact given the flags visible on each player, so it’s understandable why Hurts and Pepper may not have been on the same page about whether the play was finished or not as Hurts tossed the ball after Pepper rushed past him. Watch the play here on the official Patriots YouTube channel.

There’s no question these two will meet again and hopefully, both are mic’d up when it happens.

NFC East news: Jayden Daniels named the Commanders starting quarterback

Heisman Trophy winner and No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels has been named the Washington Commanders starting quarterback for Week 1vs. Bucs

The NFC East has two of the NFL’s top 10 teams, the Eagles and Cowboys, chasing Super Bowl dreams, but the division is always much more exciting when Washington has a talented and competitive roster.

After Daniel Jones sold the team to Sixers owner Josh Harris, the Commanders took steps towards changing the culture by hiring Dan Quinn as head coach and Adam Peters as GM and then overhauling the entire organization’s swagger by drafting former LSU star and Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels at No. 2 overall in April’s NFL draft.

Daniels has made some big plays this summer while showing poise and the insight to play the quarterback position as a dynamic dual-threat signal caller. He was rewarded on Monday afternoon when he was named the Week 1 starter against the Buccaneers and Baker Mayfield.

The 42-yard throw to Dyami Brown after Daniel changed the play because of the Jets’ coverage sealed the deal. According to Next Gen Stats, Daniels’ average time before throwing against the Dolphins was 2.02 seconds against Miami, meaning he’s reading the field and understanding coverage and where to go with the football.

In two preseason games thus far, Daniels completed 12 of 15 passes for 123 yards, with no touchdowns and a three-yard touchdown run.

WATCH: Where did Fletcher Cox rank Nick Foles among the Eagles’ great quarterbacks?

Retired defensive tackle Fletcher Cox says Nick Foles is the best quarterback in Philadelphia Eagles franchise history

Philadelphia has a rich history at the quarterback position. Donovan McNabb, Ron Jaworski, Michael Vick, Randall Cunningham, and Sonny Jurgensen all took snaps for the franchise long before Nick Foles, Carson Wentz, and Jalen Hurts became household names.

Only one of those players is a Super Bowl champion, and during a recent YouTube sit-down with USA Today Sports, Eagles legend Fletcher Cox was asked questions about the franchise, including who the greatest quarterback in franchise history should be. Cox named Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles as that guy without blinking or having to think about it.

The Super Bowl championship and a statue outside Lincoln Financial Field were the biggest reasons for Foles’s landing ahead of McNabb, Cunningham, Jaworkski, and others.

The recently retired Foles will finish with a postseason record of 4-1 during his final two years in Philadelphia, including winning MVP of Super Bowl LII. In place of an injured Carson Wentz, Foles went 6-2 in the regular season in his final two years in Philadelphia, leading the Eagles to two playoff berths.

Foles played 11 seasons for six teams, including the Eagles and Bears.

Foles has passed for 14,227 yards and 82 touchdowns, earning one Pro Bowl nomination, the Super Bowl MVP, and the Lombardi Trophy.

You can see Fletcher Cox discuss Foles and life after the Eagles in the video below.

Best photos from Eagles 14-13 win over Patriots in preseason matchup

Best photos from the Philadelphia Eagles 14-13 win over the New England Patriots in preseason matchup at Gillette Stadium

The Eagles remain undefeated in the preseason after an ugly 14-13 win over the rebuilding Patriots at Gillette Stadium on Thursday night.  New England rookie quarterback Drake Maye ran for a touchdown and led the Patriots on two of the team’s three scoring drives.  The No. 3 overall draft pick out of North Carolina appeared in just one series in the Patriots’ preseason opener but played the second and third quarters on Thursday night, finishing 6 of 11 for 47 yards.  The Patriots held a 13-6 lead in the fourth quarter when the Eagles rallied. Rookie running back Kendall Milton ran for a 1-yard touchdown, and second-year quarterback Tanner McKee connected with rookie wide receiver Ainias Smith on the 2-point conversion to give Nick Sirianni’s team the lead.  With the Eagles starting preparation for their preseason finale against the Vikings, here are the top photos from Thursday night. ***

Analyzing the Eagles’ floor and ceiling for the 2024 season

Analyzing the Eagles’ floor and ceiling for the 2024 season

The Eagles have a loaded roster, and although they are potential Super Bowl favorites, could this team, filled with 12 stars making $10+ million a season or more, have a collapse worse than what we experienced in 2024?

ESPN looked at the ceilings and floors for all 32 NFL teams. While Tim McManus believes the club could win 13 games as they did in 2022, McManus wouldn’t be shocked if the Birds went 8-9 with the wheels falling off.

Ceiling: 13-4

Biggest X factor: Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore

Floor: 8-9

The Eagles’ high-powered attack fell into a funk late last season, aiding in the team’s 1-6 collapse and early playoff exit. Offensive coordinator Brian Johnson was fired and head coach Nick Sirianni handed much of the creative control over to Johnson’s replacement, Moore. The former Cowboys and Chargers OC has been hard at work addressing problem areas from last season, including lack of pre-snap motion (the Eagles were last in that category in 2023) and effectiveness against the blitz (Jalen Hurts threw a league-high eight interceptions when facing those pressures). A disconnect in visions between Hurts and Sirianni helped fuel the downturn. It’s imperative Moore and Hurts sync up. — Tim McManus

The offense is loaded, and as long as Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Lane Johnson can avoid injury, things will be fine. On defense, Vic Fangio’s presence alone should count for two wins, and improved play at the linebacker position could push this unit into the top ten.

Darius Slay on Eagles OC Kellen Moore: He’s giving Jalen Hurts the freedom to be elite

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay says Kellen Moore is going to make Jalen Hurts an elite QB

Kellen Moore has had a positive impact on Jalen Hurts through three weeks of training camp, and it has nothing to do with the Eagles star quarterback not throwing an interception in training camp.

Moore is allowing Hurts to adjust at the line of scrimmage while tailoring Philadelphia’s new offense around Hurts’ dynamic skill set.

During a recent episode of his Big Play Slay podcast, the Eagles Pro Bowl cornerback praised Kellen Moore while explaining how he’ll give Hurts the “freedom” to be elite.

Hurts has stated that 95% of the offense is new. Kellen Moore’s system and the Eagles’ offense will be noticeably different, with more bunch sets and pre-snap motion, allowing the quarterback to have more straightforward and detailed reads at the line of scrimmage.

Hurts is entering year No. 5 in the NFL, and he’s familiar with learning an offense, seeing as he’s had 10+ offensive coordinators since his time at Alabama. With a massive $255 million contract, Hurts has entered that phase of his career where he wants to take complete ownership of the offense he’s been in charge of commanding to a Super Bowl.

Oklahoma Sooners success isn’t all on Jackson Arnold

The Oklahoma Sooners have a more complete team heading into 2024, taking some of the pressure off of their first year starter at quarterback

Quarterback is the most important position in football. Make no mistake about it. That’s why they’re the highest-paid players in the NFL and why they’re moving the biggest needle on the name, image and likeness licensing front.

But football is the ultimate team sport. Having great quarterback play can elevate a team that may have other deficiencies. That’s what we saw during the [autotag]Baker Mayfield[/autotag], [autotag]Kyler Murray[/autotag] and [autotag]Jalen Hurts[/autotag] era of Sooner football. Those elite quarterbacks were able to put the Sooners into contention despite a defense that wasn’t consistent enough.

That isn’t the case anymore. For what feels like the first time in a long time, the Oklahoma Sooners aren’t solely dependent on their quarterback to be superhuman.

So while all eyes are on [autotag]Jackson Arnold[/autotag] and the Oklahoma offense, the Sooners are heading into the SEC in somewhat unfamiliar territory. The strength of the team is on the defensive side of the ball.

Led by a talented and experienced defensive unit, the Sooners look ready to change the narrative that’s persisted for the last decade. Entering Year 1 in the SEC, Oklahoma isn’t going to rely on its quarterback playing Super Saiyan football for an entire season for it to have a chance to win football games.

That’s because they have a defense capable of being one of the best in the conference, which will take the pressure off Arnold and the offense. Gone are the days when the Sooners have to score 40 to have a chance to win. After allowing 30 points per game in the first season under Brent Venables in 2022, the Sooners have improved by nearly a touchdown a game to 23.5 points per game.

They allowed 30 or more in just three games last season and allowed fewer than four yards per carry. This team held the vaunted Texas offense to 23 points in the Red River Showdown, forcing the 2024 Heisman front-runner into two interceptions and stopping the Longhorns short of the end zone four times from the 1-yard line.

They weren’t perfect last year. There’s room to improve, but the Oklahoma Sooners did just that.

Venables convinced [autotag]Danny Stutsman[/autotag], [autotag]Billy Bowman[/autotag], [autotag]Woodi Washington[/autotag] and [autotag]Da’Jon Terry[/autotag] to return for another season. That gave the Sooners valuable experience and production. In addition to the development of [autotag]Gracen Halton[/autotag], they added one of the more dynamic defensive tackles in the nation, [autotag]Damonic Williams[/autotag], along with true freshmen phenoms [autotag]David Stone[/autotag] and [autotag]Jayden Jackson[/autotag]. Once considered a weakness of the Sooners’ defense, the defensive interior is now a strength. Combine that with the additions of [autotag]Caiden Woullard[/autotag], who had 9 1/2 sacks for Miami (Ohio), [autotag]Danny Okoye[/autotag], [autotag]Nigel Smith[/autotag], and [autotag]Wyatt Gilmore[/autotag] and the further development of [autotag]R Mason Thomas[/autotag] and [autotag]Adepoju Adebawore[/autotag]. The result is a Sooners defensive front that is loaded with experience and promising young players fighting to break into the rotation.

From the front four to the back seven, the Oklahoma defense is ready to take the next step. And that’s great news for Arnold and the Sooners offense.

The Sooners have a more complete team, even with questions on the offensive side of the ball. They have a team more capable of playing complementary football.

As Arnold gets adjusted to life as the starting quarterback and the offensive line comes together, the defense will lead the way for the Sooners in 2024.

NBC reveals Peacock broadcast team for Eagles-Packers matchup in Brazil

Noah Eagle (play-by-play), Todd Blackledge (analyst) and Kaylee Hartung (sideline reporter) will call the Green Bay Packers-Philadelphia Eagles game in primetime on Peacock on Friday, Sept. 6 in São Paulo,Brazil.

The Eagles will host the Packers in primetime on Peacock on Friday, Sept. 6, in São Paulo. Peacock will be the exclusive national home of the NFL’s first-ever regular-season game in Brazil.

NBC just announced that Noah Eagle (play-by-play), Todd Blackledge (analyst), and Kaylee Hartung (sideline reporter) will be on the call in São Paulo for the season opener for both clubs.

Eagle, who earlier this year won a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Personality/Emerging On Air, and Blackledge, NBC Sports’ Big Ten Saturday Night commentary team, called last season’s AFC Wild Card matchup between the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans, as well as a Cincinnati Bengals-Pittsburgh Steelers matchup in late December. Hartung was the sideline reporter for Peacock’s exclusive presentation of the Dolphins-Chiefs AFC Wild Card game in January 2024, and is the sideline reporter for Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football.

The Peacock exclusive NFL game from São Paulo on Friday night will follow the Thursday night (Sept. 5) NFL Kickoff game on NBC and Peacock, between the Super Bowl champion Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens.

The network also announced that in early September, Peacock will feature four consecutive nights of primetime football:

· Thurs., Sept. 5 — NFL Kickoff Game: Ravens at Chiefs (NBC, Peacock)
· Fri., Sept. 6 — Peacock Exclusive NFL Game from São Paulo, Brazil
· Sat., Sept. 7 – Big Ten Saturday Night: Colorado at Nebraska (NBC, Peacock)
· Sun., Sept. 8 – Season Debut of Primetime’s #1 Show: Sunday Night Football: Rams at Lions (NBC, Peacock)

This will be the Eagles’ second International Series Game in the regular season. They played in London during the 2018 campaign and defeated Jacksonville, 24-18, at Wembley Stadium. The Eagles played preseason games in Mexico City in 1978, London in 1989 and ’91, and Tokyo in 1993.

Home to the Brazilian soccer team SC Corinthians, the stadium was an official venue for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games.

Jordan Love is a star, and two years ago at Lincoln Financial Field, he made a huge impression on the Eagles and cornerback Darius Slay.

Green Bay is loaded and coming off a playoff appearance, and the matchup would feature elite playmakers at quarterback, wide receiver, RB, CB, and pass rusher.
