Undefeated flyweight Muhammad Mokaev meets Jafel Filho at UFC 286 in London

Undefeated 22-year-old prospect Muhammed Mokaev continues his push to become the youngest UFC champ with his next assignment at UFC 286.

A flyweight matchup between [autotag]Muhammad Mokaev[/autotag] and [autotag]Jafel Filho[/autotag] is the latest addition to March’s UFC 286 lineup.

Mokaev (9-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC), an undefeated 22-year-old prospect with hopes of becoming the youngest champ in UFC history, will look to continue his assent up the division when he takes on Filho (14-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) at the March 18 event, which takes place at The O2 in London and airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.

MMA Junkie verified the booking with multiple people close to the situation following an initial report from ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. The people requested anonymity because the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Mokaev is undefeated in his career through 33 professional and amateur fights. He’s proven to be largely dominant thus far in the octagon, beating all three of his opponents in convincing fashion. The competition hasn’t been elite, but that’s not for a lack of trying, because Mokaev is frequently calling out highly ranked names.

Looking to spoil Mokaev’s streak will be octagon newcomer and Dana White’s Contenders alum Filho, a 29-year-old from Brazil who earned his UFC contract in September with a third-round TKO win.

The latest UFC 286 lineup now includes:

  • Leon Edwards vs. Kamaru Usman – for welterweight title
  • Rafael Fiziev vs. Justin Gaethje
  • Roman Dolidze vs. Marvin Vettori
  • Gunnar Nelson vs. Daniel Rodriguez
  • Luana Carolina vs. Joanne Wood
  • Malcolm Gordon vs. Jake Hadley
  • Jennifer Maia vs. Casey O’Neill
  • Jai Herbert vs. Ludovit Klein
  • Lerone Murphy vs. Nathaniel Wood
  • Chris Duncan vs. Michal Figlak
  • Veronica Macedo vs. Juliana Miller
  • Jafel Filho vs. Muhammad Mokaev

Fresh Ink: Meet the 23 fighters the UFC signed in September 2022

The UFC added 32 fighters to its roster last month. Find out who joined and learn more about them here.

The UFC roster is bigger than ever – and it continues to expand.

Fresh faces appear on nearly every card, whether onboarded as short-notice opening fillers, Dana White’s Contender Series signees, or the increasingly rare straight-up additions. Sometimes, it’s hard to keep track of the hustle and bustle of the mixed martial arts news beat, but here at MMA Junkie, we’ve got you covered.

“Fresh Ink” is your list of fighters added to the UFC roster the previous month and provides background on who they are and where they came from.

Dana White’s Contender Series 55: Grading the winners

MMA Junkie fight analyst Dan Tom takes a closer look at the performances of the UFC hopeful DWCS 55 winners.

Week 9 of Dana White’s Contender Series (2022) took place Tuesday in Las Vegas, and we’re grading the winners from the five-fight card, which streamed on ESPN+ from the UFC Apex.

With a simple but digestible format that has had the MMA fanbase responding, this series has shown to have legs in multiple ways while serving as a crockpot for contenders whom the UFC matchmakers can use for future events. So, with that trend in mind, I will once again be taking a look at the winning fighters regardless of whether or not they won a UFC contract and grading their performances in regards to their probability of returning to a UFC stage.

Jafel Cavalcante Filho landed clean.

[autotag]Jafel Filho[/autotag] made sure to not go to the judges in his Dana White Contender Series debut.

The Brazilian flyweight prospect put away [autotag]Roybert Echeverria[/autotag] in the opening bout of Dana White Contender Series 55. Filho (14-2) had a competitive fight with Echeverria (7-1), but a clean left hook in the third round closed the show and kept it from going to the scorecards.
