Michigan State Football vs. Rutgers Injury Report: Josiah Scott, Jalen Nailor should play

MSU faces Rutgers Saturday. Here is your injury update.

[jwplayer 2uGgaAG0]

On this week’s injury report, one thing sticks out more than other weeks, and that is the presence of Sophomore Wide Receiver Jalen Nailor, who hasn’t played in his last nine games. Here is your full injury report for Michigan State Football’s match-up Saturday against Rutgers.

In regards to Nailor:

“Jalen could have possibly played some (at Michigan), but he hadn’t practiced. He really only practiced on Thursday, so he hadn’t been hit, he hadn’t been jostled around – ball security, those type of things,” Dantonio said. “We wanted to give him an extra week to get his feet on the ground. But he’ll play. He practiced yesterday, so he’ll play in this football game.”

I’m not saying that Nailor has been the missing piece this season for the Spartans, but Michigan State hasn’t won a football game this season without Jalen Nailor (he only played against Tulsa). He’s not the missing piece, but he’s one of many.

  • Defensive Back Josiah Scott, who left the Illinois game with an injury, should be back this week as well, per Dantonio.
  • Left Tackle AJ Arcuri should be back in this game and play over the inexperienced Devontae Dobbs.
  • Darrell Stewart Jr. is expected to miss this week as well. Despite missing every game since Penn State, he’s still MSU’s leading receiver.
  • OffensiMatt Allen is still injured.
  • Backup lineman Tyler Higby should be available in this game.

WR DJ Chark amongst several players to surface on injury report after battle with Colts

Two of the Jags’ top receivers have found themselves on the injury report after Week 11’s loss to the Colts.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had just one player on their final injury report for Week 11 but exited the game with some new injuries to deal with. Receivers DJ Chark and Chris Conley seemingly were amongst those players who sustained injuries during the Jags’ last game against the Indianapolis Colts as both surfaced on the team’s first injury report for Week 12 with hamstring injuries. Despite their injuries, however, both players were limited.

Joining Chark and Conley as limited participants were nickelback D.J. Hayden (hip/wrist), center Brandon Linder (shoulder) and defensive lineman Calais Campbell (back). All three were on Week 11’s injury report as well, however, Hayden was on the report with a different injury (neck/shoulder).

Offensive tackle Cam Robinson (knee) and safety Ronnie Harrison (eye) were full participants Wednesday after surfacing on the injury report with the same injuries they had on Week 11’s report.

The Jags’ lone non-participant who surfaced on Wednesday’s injury report was tight end Seth DeValve (oblique), who was the only player on Week 11’s final injury report and missed last Sunday’s game.

Falcons Week 12 injury report: 7 players miss practice on Wednesday

Those who sat out included QB Matt Ryan, TE Austin Hooper, RB Devonta Freeman and DE Adrian Clayborn. While this many players missing practice would normally be a bad sign, it’s more likely that the team is just being overly cautious.

The Falcons got back to work on Wednesday after their Week 11 win over the Panthers, but seven players did not participate in practice.

Those who sat out included QB Matt Ryan, TE Austin Hooper, RB Devonta Freeman and DE Adrian Clayborn. While this many players missing practice would normally be a bad sign, it’s more likely that the team is just being overly cautious.

Atlanta is on a two-game winning streak, and while Freeman and Hooper are unlikely to play in Sunday’s game against the Panthers, the rest of the injuries aren’t as concerning.

Check out the team’s complete practice report from Wednesday below.

Report: Josh Hill suffered ‘mild’ concussion vs. Buccaneers

The New Orleans Saints lost backup tight end Josh Hill with a concussion, which one report described as a mild injury rather than serious.

[jwplayer WU2Y8Ngc]

The New Orleans Saints lost a big part of their offense on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when backup tight end Josh Hill was ruled out from returning to the game with a concussion. Hill isn’t the pass-catching threat many would expect a valued Saints tight end to perform as, but he fills a critical role in the offense as one of their best blockers. Saints coach Sean Payton described his loss as like losing the front door to a house, requiring a quick scramble to adjust his playsheet.

Fortunately, Hill appears to have escaped a serious brain injury. Per Larry Holder of The Athletic, Hill’s concussion was described as mild, though the team still took all precautions to protect his health. Hill was a limited participant in practice on the Wednesday Saints injury report, which is encouraging. It’s worth noting that he was limited in practice throughout the week before the Buccaneers game with a calf issue, though it didn’t slow him down in the game.

Hill has averaged nearly 39 snaps per game this season, often outplaying big free agent signing Jared Cook. Still, it isn’t really fair to compare the two of them given their vastly different skills sets; Hill is a blocker first and a receiver second, while the Saints spent the summer suggesting Cook’s arrival would allow them to open up a part of the playbook once designed for Jimmy Graham. If Cook continues to catch touchdowns like his high-flying grab against Tampa Bay, he might end up earning that adulation.

Even if this latest concussion is only a minor hurdle, fans should remember that it’s the third brain injury in as many years for Hill. He exited last year’s NFC championship game with a concussion and dealt with another one early in the 2017 season. Here’s hoping this isn’t the beginning of a trend like the series of concussions that ended Coby Fleener’s Saints career.

Must-Watch: Ruhland on Injured Line-Mates

Imagine being in your last year of eligibility and not getting to play the game you love, or at least not getting playing time because your buddies have beaten you out for the job.

Imagine being in your last year of eligibility and not getting to play the game you love, or at least not getting playing time because your buddies have beaten you out for the job.

Then suddenly a couple of your buddies get hurt and you’re called upon to fill in as they’re done for the season.

Are you happy for the opportunity or sad for your friends being hurt?

It’s easy to think in hypotheticals but what if you’re actually living that very situation?

That is indeed the case for Trevor Ruhland, a fifth-year, enjoying his final few weeks in the blue and gold. Now how does the Notre Dame veteran offensive lineman feel about getting playing time because of injuries to his teammates?

As former NFL executive Phil Emery used to call it – “great teammateship” was shown here by the Cary, Illinois product.
