Broncos RB Audric Estime activated from injured reserve

The Broncos activated RB Audric Estime from the injured reserve list to the 53-man roster. He’s expected to serve as RB3 on Sunday.

The Denver Broncos activated running back Audric Estime (ankle) from injured reserve to the 53-man roster on Saturday, the team announced.

Estime (5-11, 227 pounds) injured his ankle in the team’s season opener against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 8. After sitting out the last four games, Estime became eligible to return ahead of a Week 6 showdown with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Estime will now return to serving as the team’s third-string running back behind Javonte Williams and Jaleel McLaughlin. Blake Watson will presumably be a healthy scratch again now that Estime has returned.

Denver picked Estime in the fifth round of this year’s NFL draft out of Notre Dame. He rushed twice for 14 yards and one first down in his NFL debut.

The Broncos also promoted safety Tanner McCalister from the practice squad to the 53-man roster on Saturday. The team had room for Estime and McCalister on the active roster after placing center Luke Wattenberg and wide receiver Josh Reynolds on injured reserve.

Denver’s game against Los Angeles will be regionally televised on CBS. Despite playing at home with a three-game winning streak, the Broncos are considered underdogs against the Chargers this week.

Broncos injury report: 2 starting linemen ruled out vs. Chargers

Broncos right tackle Alex Palczewski (ankle) and center Luke Wattenberg (ankle) have been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Chargers.

The Denver Broncos have ruled out two starting offensive linemen for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Broncos right tackle Alex Palczewski and center Luke Wattenberg are both out with ankle injuries this week. Matt Peart (right tackle) and Alex Forsyth (center) are expected to fill in against the Chargers. To add more depth, Denver also signed tackle Cam Fleming and center Dieter Eiselen to the practice squad earlier this week.

“We have a lot of confidence in the guys that are filling in,” offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said Thursday. “Alex was right there with the center battle during training camp, and obviously he and Bo [Nix] have a good relationship. That’s always important with centers and quarterbacks. Peart’s been someone that we’ve been impressed with since he’s been here. We’re going to battle it out, and we have confidence in those guys.”

Elsewhere on offense, Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds (hand) has also been ruled out. That could mean Devaughn Vele’s return to the game-day roster this week.

Back-to-back short weeks won’t help ease Saints’ injury concerns

Injuries continue to pile up for the Saints, and back-to-back short weeks won’t help. They’re playing three games in eleven days:

The New Orleans Saints are currently playing without starters and cornerstones like Taysom Hill, Pete Werner and Cesar Ruiz — not to mention Derek Carr.

This week’s initial injury report featured nine players who did not participate. It was only a projection because it was a walkthrough, but many of them remained sidelined on Thursday’s updated report. It still shows how many injuries the Saints are dealing with.

New Orleans has had the more expansive injury report every week this season, and it continues to grow. Even guys like Rashid Shaheed and Alvin Kamara have been limited at practice.

The Saints played the Kansas City Chiefs on “Monday Night Football,” and have to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this upcoming week. They follow it up with a Sean Payton reunion against the Denver Broncos on “Thursday Night Football.” That’s a stretch of three games in eleven days.

This is a bad time for the team to have back-to-back short weeks. The Saints are down offensive linemen and critical pieces on the offense and defense. Oftentimes, teams will be hesitant to bring players back on short weeks.

On the bright side, the Saints will have ten days to rest until the next game after Denver. The hope is that long break will lead to the return of some key players, but they must navigate this gauntlet first.

Broncos injury report: Ankle injuries decimating offensive line

Broncos right tackle Alex Palczewski (ankle) and center Luke Wattenberg (ankle) missed practice again on Thursday.

The Denver Broncos‘ offensive line has been hit hard by ankle injuries.

Denver terminated the contract of backup offensive tackle Will Sherman on Wednesday, reaching an injury settlement with the practice squad player after he suffered an ankle injury in practice last week.

Sherman wasn’t the only lineman battling an ankle injury.

Broncos fill-in starting right tackle Alex Palczewski and starting center Luke Wattenberg are also nursing ankle injuries and they missed practice again on Thursday after previously being held out on Wednesday.

If Palczewski and Wattenberg are not able to play against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6, Matt Peart (right tackle) and Alex Forsyth (center) are the most likely candidates to start in their places.

Denver added depth on the line by signing tackle Cam Fleming and center Dieter Eiselen to the practice squad earlier this week.

Meanwhile, Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds (hand) was also held out of practice again today. View the team’s complete Thursday injury report below.

Some good news on the injury front: Denver running back Audric Estime (ankle) and cornerback Damaris Mathis (ankle) are eligible to return from injured reserve this week. Broncos right tackle Mike McGlinchey (knee) will be eligible to return from injured reserve next week.

Denver will practice again on Friday before releasing a final injury report with game statuses for Sunday’s showdown with the Chargers.

Caden Sterns has had an insane tenure with the Eagles

Caden Sterns has been signed, cut, signed, cut, signed, cut, signed and cut by the Eagles this season.

Former Denver Broncos safety Caden Sterns has had a crazy tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles this season.

The Eagles released Sterns from their practice squad again on Thursday, marking the team’s eighth transaction involving the safety in 2024.

Sterns is apparently still attempting to bounce back from the knee injury he suffered last season with the Broncos and he’s struggling to hold down a spot in Philadelphia. Here’s a look back at the safety’s timeline since his injury:

Sterns will turn 25 next month, so he’s clearly still young enough to have a future in the NFL. We’ll see if the Eagles end up bringing him back yet again.

Broncos injury report: 2 starting offensive linemen sidelined

Broncos RT Alex Palczewski (ankle) and C Luke Wattenberg (ankle) did not practice Wednesday.

The Denver Broncos‘ offensive line has been hit hard by injuries.

Broncos fill-in starting right tackle Alex Palczewski and starting center Luke Wattenberg both suffered ankle injuries against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Palczewski and Wattenberg were held out of Wednesday’s practice.

If Palczewski and Wattenberg are not able to play against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6, Matt Peart (right tackle) and Alex Forsyth (center) would likely be the next men up.

Denver added depth on the line this week by signing tackle Cam Fleming and center Dieter Eiselen to the practice squad on Tuesday.

Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds (hand) was also held out of practice Wednesday. View the team’s complete injury report below.

On a positive note, Denver running back Audric Estime (ankle) and cornerback Damaris Mathis (ankle) have opened their 21-day windows to return from injured reserve.

Broncos right tackle Mike McGlinchey (knee) will be eligible to return from injured reserve next week.

Denver will practice again on Thursday and Friday before releasing a final injury report with game statuses for Sunday’s showdown with the Chargers.

49ers injury news: Talanoa Hufanga officially placed on IR

Talanoa Hufanga is out at least four weeks.

The San Francisco 49ers made a couple of roster moves Wednesday ahead of their Thursday night matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.

Starting strong safety Talanoa Hufanga was placed on IR. Tight end Brayden Willis was promoted to the active roster from the practice squad in a corresponding move.

Hufanga tore ligaments in his wrist early in the 49ers’ Week 5 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He left the game in the first half and never returned.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters in a press conference Tuesday that Hufanga would miss about a month with the injury. By going on IR he’ll now be required to miss four weeks before his 21-day practice window can be opened.

The earliest Hufanga can return is in Week 10 after the bye when the 49ers visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Rookie fourth-round pick Malik Mustapha figures to start in his stead after taking over for him in Week 5.

Willis’s promotion is interesting and may indicate a change in plan for the 49ers on offense moving forward. Their run game has put up good box score numbers, but they’ve had more pass attempts than rush attempts this year and their ability to get into second or third-and-short has been diminished.

By bringing Willis up the 49ers may be planning on using more multiple TE sets to try and get their run game going. Willis is a good enough pass catcher that he may impact the game there as well if he’s continued improving on the 49ers’ practice squad.

49ers injury report: Starting CB questionable vs. Seahawks

Here’s the 49ers’ Week 6 injury report:

The San Francisco 49ers have a crowded injury report for their Week 6 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football.

A truncated week of preparation exacerbates any potential injury issues since there’s less time for a player to recover during the week. That may be why veteran cornerback Charvarius Ward is listed as questionable with a knee injury.

Ward suffered a knee bruise during the team’s Week 5 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He was projected as a non-participant in Monday’s practice, then was limited in two walkthroughs Tuesday and Wednesday.

If Ward can’t go, we’ll likely see Isaac Yiadom start at the outside cornerback spot with rookie Renardo Green lining up in the slot as the nickel corner.

Perhaps the most important part of the 49ers injury report is who isn’t listed. Tight end George Kittle and linebacker Fred Warner and safety Ji’Ayir Brown all participated in full Wednesday and are good to suit up Thursday night.

Here’s the 49ers’ full Week 6 injury report:

Out

DT Jordan Elliott (knee)
LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (calf)
S Talanoa Hufanga (wrist)
K Jake Moody (right ankle)

Flannigan-Fowles, Moody and Hufanga were all expected to miss the game. Elliott has been dealing with a knee injury for a couple weeks now. His absence may be due to the short week.

Questionable

WR Chris Conley (oblique)
CB Charvarius Ward (knee)

Conley was on the same practice schedule as Ward after missing Week 5 with his oblique injury. He didn’t participate Monday, then was limited Tuesday and Wednesday.

49ers will be without superstar defender vs. Seahawks

49ers will be without superstar defender vs. Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks may be without the services of several high-end defenders against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football. General manager John Schneider placed outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu on IR, ruling him out for a minimum of four contests. Rookie defensive tackle Byron Murphy II has also been ruled out. Cornerback Riq Woolen and edge Derick Hall are also at risk of missing out after being sidelined during Tuesday’s practice.

Luckily for the Seahawks, they’re not the only ones that will be missing critical defenders for Thursday’s divisional showdown. Superstar 49ers safety Talanoa Hufanga will miss approximately one month with torn ligaments in his wrist. Kyle Shanahan confirmed the news on Tuesday.

Hufanga suffered the injury in Sunday’s defeat to the Arizona Cardinals. The former USC standout played just 11 snaps before exiting with the injury. Without their game-changing safety in the fold, the 49ers blew a sizable second-half lead.

Hufanga has recorded eight tackles this season. Veteran safety George Odum and rookie Malik Mustapha are expected to play more snaps in his absence. On Sunday against the Cardinals, it was Mustapha that replaced Hufanga.

The 49ers will also be without kicker Jake Moody, who suffered an ankle sprain. Cornerback Charvarius Ward (knee), tight end George Kittle (ribs), linebacker Fred Warner (ankle), wide receiver Chris Conley (oblique) and safety Ji’Ayir Brown (ankle) are also on the 49ers injury report ahead of Thursday.

Why the Broncos cut RB Salvon Ahmed one week after signing him

The Broncos cut RB Salvon Ahmed one week after signing him, presumably a sign that Audric Estime is close to returning from IR.

After losing third-string running back Tyler Badie to a back injury against the New York Jets and placing him on injured reserve last week, the Denver Broncos signed Salvon Ahmed to their practice squad to add more depth at RB.

Ahmed was, apparently, just a short-term solution.

The Broncos released the 25-year-old running back on Tuesday, exactly one week after they signed him on Oct. 1. Denver moving on from Ahmed so quickly likely signals that another running back is close to returning.

Broncos rookie Audric Estime (ankle) is eligible to return from injured reserve this week and the fact that Denver has cut a running back seems like a good sign that Estime will be activated ahead of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Blake Watson made his NFL debut in Week 5 but the Broncos clearly do not think he is ready for RB3 duties as Watson played just one snap on offense and one snap on special teams against the Las Vegas Raiders.

So with Denver moving on from Ahmed, we can only assume that Estime is close to a return.
