Steelers vs. Browns: 3 key starters ruled out for Sunday’s matchup

An ailing Browns team will be without (at least) two defensive playmakers on Sunday.

On Friday, safeties Karl Joseph (hamstring) and Ronnie Harrison (concussion), two of Cleveland’s key defensive players, were ruled out for Sunday’s Steelers square-off at Heinz Field.

Joseph was placed on injured reserve back in August with a lingering foot injury he sustained in Oakland last season but has played since Week 1.  He contributed an interception for a 49-yard touchdown versus Washington in Week 3. Joseph recently suffered a hamstring injury that also kept him out of last week’s Browns-Colts matchup.

Harrison sustained the concussion when he started in place of Joseph versus the Colts. Prior to exiting the game, he scored on a pick-six to give the Browns a halftime lead.

Third-year guard Wyatt Teller has also been ruled out for Sunday.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield and starting receivers Odell Beckham, Jr. and Jarvis Landry are all, apparently, questionable. They could just be punkin’ the Black and Gold. Me thinks punks be punkin’.

We’ll see on Sunday… Here we go!

Steelers vs. Eagles: 2 key receivers ruled out for matchup vs. Philadelphia

An already ailing Eagles team will be without two playmakers on Sunday at Heinz Field.

On Friday, the Philadelphia Eagles ruled out both Desean Jackson (hamstring) and Alshon Jeffery (illness) for their Sunday square-off at Heinz Field.

Jackson suffered a hamstring injury in the first half of the Eagles’ Week 4 tie with the Bengals, and won’t be suiting up though he practiced on a limited basis this week. The Pro Bowl receiver has 10 catches for 121 yards in the Eagles’ first three games.

Jeffery missed the last seven weeks of 2019 after being placed on injured reserve with the foot injury that has lingered into this season. He was on the brink of returning when the illness came to light this week. Alshon had 490 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games last season.

These guys are just two on a laundry list of hurt Birds.

With Philadelphia’s offense is in shambles, their defense should pose the biggest concern for the Steelers on Sunday. The Eagles D is ranked 10th overall and currently has the most sacks in the league with 17.

Steelers vs. Eagles: Diontae Johnson a full go for Sunday

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin provided an injury update on Tuesday in his weekly press conference.

For the Steelers, the only good news to come out of the unexpected and early bye week is that wide receiver Diontae Johnson had extra time to clear concussion protocol.

Mike Tomlin confirmed in his weekly press conference that Johnson will play on Sunday.

Through eight quarters, Johnson has posted 149 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Additionally, fullback Derek Watt (hamstring) and safety Marcus Allen (foot) are working their way back. Watt has been doing some running, and Allen is working the pool. We’ll hear more about their status for the Eagles’ matchup later in the week.
