Colts OT Bernhard Raimann listed as non-participant on first Week 12 injury report

Indianapolis Colts OT Bernhard Raimann was listed as a non-participant on the team’s estimated Week 12 Wednesday injury report.

The Indianapolis Colts listed offensive tackle Bernhard Raimann as a non-participant on the first Week 12 injury report as the team began preparing for their matchup with the Detroit Lions.

Of note, for the second Wednesday in a row, the team held a walkthrough rather than having a regular practice day. With the bye week still two games away, this is a way to manage the players’ workload.

Raimann suffered a knee injury during the Colts’ Week 10 loss to Buffalo, exiting that game early in the first half.

He did not practice at all last week and did not play this past Sunday in New York. Last Friday, head coach Shane Steichen would call Raimann week to week but does not believe that the injury is long-term.

According to Jake Arthur of Sports Illustrated’s Horseshoe Huddle, the team will see how the week goes for Raimann before making a decision on his status for this week’s game.

On the season, Raimann ranks 21st in pass-blocking efficiency out of 81 eligible tackles and 22nd in run-blocking grade, according to Pro Football Focus.

Without Raimann, the Colts have leaned on rookie Matt Goncalves, who like just about any young player, has experienced ups and downs. Over the last three weeks, he’s allowed seven pressures and three sacks, but does rank 26th in run-blocking grade.

Lions vs Colts: Wednesday injury report medical analysis

Lions vs Colts: Wednesday injury report medical analysis of the practice participation report for both teams

In their last game, the Lions lost Alex Anzalone for a few weeks due to a forearm fracture. Fortunately, the Wednesday report offers no other significant injuries coming out of the Jaguars game (see my postgame report for injury videos).

While the Colts injury report is short, they are hurting along the offensive line with two starters on IR, another starter who missed last game with a knee, and another starter with a new foot injury.

DETROIT LIONS

Estimated report since the team only had a walkthrough.

Sam LaPorta TE (shoulder – FP)

After missing one game with a left AC joint sprain, Dan Campbell stated on Wednesday that LaPorta is “questionable to above… it’s trending the right way”. While the FP is only an estimate, it strongly suggests LaPorta will be playing on Sunday.

Carlton Davis CB (thumb – FP)

Davis broke his left thumb last week in practice and played the entire first half vs the Jaguars in a thumb splint. He was pulled for the second half presumably as a precaution. The FP today confirms that there was no significant aggravation of the thumb and he’ll play vs the Colts.

Allen Robinson WR (Gameday Concussion Protocol Evaluation – FP)

Robinson hit his head late in the Jaguars game and was slow in getting up. The FP today would mean he was not diagnosed with a concussion and should be available on Sunday.

Shane Zylstra TE (neck – FP)

Zylstra left the Jaguars game late in the fourth quarter. The video did not show anything serious, but a neck listing is always concerning for a spinal issue. The FP today reassures that it’s not spinal and most likely just a soft tissue strain.

Emmanuel Moseley CB (pec – FP)

Moseley tore his pec in August and opened his 21-day practice window on November 6. Expect him to remain in the practice window through the weekend and moved to the active roster early next week before Thanksgiving.

NOTABLES

Ifeatu Melifonwu

Having yet to play this year, here is his timeline:
-August 17: Suspected Achilles tendonitis
-September 28: Placed on IR
-November 6: Practice window opened
-November 14: Finger injury showed up on injury report
-November 18: Activated off IR temporarily
-November 19: Back on IR presumably for the finger injury
-December 22: Eligible to return vs Bears

Brodric Martin

This second-year player suffered a right knee hyperextension on August 24 and has yet to play this year. As expected, he was activated to the roster on Tuesday from his IR practice window. That doesn’t mean he’s going to play this weekend though. It still depends on his overall physical/mental readiness and where the coaches view him on the depth chart.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

Estimated report since the team only had a walkthrough.

Bernhard Raimann LT (knee – NP)

This starting LT missed last game with an unspecified knee injury. The NP on Wednesday does not bode well for the weekend.

Braden Smith RT (foot – LP)

This starting RT has played every game this year but the foot is a new listing. Let’s see if he downgrades or upgrades over the week.

Tyquan Lewis DE (elbow – FP)

Lewis has not played in the last seven games while on IR. He had his 21-day practice window opened just today which makes it very unlikely he’ll play vs the Lions.

Michael Pittman WR (back – FP)

Pittman has been dealing with a back issue for a few weeks. He still played in their last game and should play again on Sunday. He has 35 catches for 412 yards on the year.

NOTABLES

Ryan Kelly, starting center, is on IR and has missed the last two games.

Will Fries, starting OG, is on IR and has missed the last six games.

What to know from Indianapolis Colts’ first Week 12 injury report

Let’s take a closer look at what you need to know from the Indianapolis Colts’ first Week 12 injury report.

For the second week in a row, the Indianapolis Colts didn’t have a full-speed practice on Wednesday. Instead, head coach Shane Steichen again chose to hold a walkthrough.

Given that we are now in Week 12 and the Colts still have two more games before they bye week, the Wednesday walkthrough is another way to be mindful of the workload that these players have already shouldered.

So with that, the injury report released by the team today is an estimation of the player’s status had their been an actual practice.

Let’s take a closer look at what you need to know:

– After missing last week’s game with a knee injury, left tackle Bernhard Raimann was a non-participant on Wednesday. Last Friday, Steichen said that Raimann was considered week-to-week at that time, although he didn’t think the injury was a long-term concern. Without Raimann, the Colts have relied on rookie Matt Goncavles.

– Braden Smith was a limited participant with a foot injury. We’ve seen him listed on the injury report as limited before, but that was with a knee injury–so this is different and worth monitoring as the week continues.

– Tyquan Lewis, who the team designated to return from injured reserve, was a full participant in his first practice back. He can be activated at any time and once he is, he will be available on Sundays. Once Lewis is back, the Colts defensive front will be the healthiest it’s been since the first few weeks of the season.

– More good news, Michael Pittman was a full participant. He is continuing to take the back injury week-to-week, but it’s a good sign that he came out of Sunday’s game in New York feeling good.

Colts DE Tyquan Lewis designated to return from IR

Indianapolis Colts’ defensive end Tyquan Lewis has been designated to return from injured reserve. Here is what you need to know.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced on Wednesday that defensive end Tyquan Lewis has been designated to return from injured reserve.

This now opens up a 21-day window for Lewis to be added back to the 53-man roster. Whether it be Day 1 or Day 21, he can be activated at any time, and once he is, Lewis will then be available on Sundays.

The Colts placed Lewis on injured reserve following the team’s Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. He would exit that game early with an elbow injury.

Through four games, Lewis was the starting defensive end opposite of Kwity Paye. His 12 pressures were the most on the team at that time and he still ranks third among all defensive ends in PFF’s run-stop rate metric.

The eventual return of Lewis will, of course, provide the Colts’ defensive end rotation with a big boost, especially against the run, where perimeter runs have hurt this unit.

As a unit, the Indianapolis pass rush has been picking up steam the last month with the return of DeForest Buckner and with Gus Bradley dialing up more designed pressures.

Whenever Lewis is added back to the 53-man roster, a corresponding roster cut will have to be made in order to make room for him.

Colts DE Kwity Paye picking up pass rush steam over last month

Over the last four games, Indianapolis Colts DE Kwity Paye has been among the best at his position group at getting after the quarterback.

Over the last month of games, Indianapolis Colts defensive end Kwity Paye has been picking up pass rush steam.

During that span of four games, beginning with the Colts’ second matchup with Houston, Paye has recorded 14 pressures and four sacks, according to Pro Football Focus.

This included a five-pressure and two-sack performance this past Sunday against the New York Jets.

To put some context around those figures, among all defensive ends during that stretch, Paye’s 14 pressures are tied for the 14th-most in football. His four sacks, meanwhile, are tied for the fourth-most.

Coming off of an offseason, where Paye cut weight but put on muscle, he’s been one of the fastest pass rushers off the ball this season. According to ESPN analytics, Paye’s average time of 0.75 seconds across the line of scrimmage is the fifth-fastest in football.

The name of the game in football is getting after the quarterback. When done consistently, there is a positive trickle-down effect to the rest of the defense. Pressure disrupts the timing and rhythm of the play, often meaning less time in coverage for the secondary and potential mistakes from the quarterback.

Overall, the Colts’ pass rush unit as a whole has improved over the last month of play as well.

This also happens to coincide with the return of DeForest Buckner off of injured reserve. We all know that Buckner has the ability to fill the stat sheet himself, but his presence creates opportunities for others, with the attention that he draws helping to create advantageous or one-on-one matchups for his teammates.

Defensive coordinator Gus Bradley’s willingness to drum up pressures via blitzes has been a factor in the Colts’ causing more disruption as well.

Continuing to find that success, for both Paye and the rest of the defense, will be a must this week against Detroit’s Jared Goff, who can pick apart even the best defenses when he has time in the pocket. Creating that pressure, however, won’t come easy against perhaps the best offensive line unit in football.

3 former Colts among semifinalists for 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame

Three former Indianapolis Colts are among the final 25 nominees to be a part of the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class.

On Wednesday, the Pro Football Hall of Fame again reduced its 2025 class list to 25 semifinalists, which includes three former Indianapolis Colts.

WR Reggie Wayne
DE Robert Mathis
K Adam Vinatieri

Wayne, who is currently the Colts receivers coach, would also spend his entire career in Indianapolis where he was a six-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro. Wayne totaled 14,345 receiving yards in his career with 82 touchdown receptions over 211 games.

Mathis, meanwhile, played with the Colts his entire career, from 2003 to 2016, appearing in 192 games. Mathis finished his career with 54 forced fumbles, 108 tackles for loss, 141 quarterback hits and 123 sacks. Mathis was a five time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro.

Lastly, after 10 years in New England, Vinatieri would spend 14 with the Colts. With Indianapolis specifically, Vinatieri made 85.3 percent of his field goal attempts. He was a three-time Pro Bowler and a three-time All-Pro in his career.

Back in September, the NFL announced 167 modern-era nominees for the 2025 Hall of Fame class. That original list included eight former Colts members.

Since then, that number of nominees has been reduced to 50 and now to 25. From here, another vote will take place, trimming the number of nominees down to only 15 before the selection committee will place its final votes for the official 2025 class.
