Kirk Herbstreit updates his college football top 6 after Saturday

Who was the biggest winner of Week 12?

Survive and advance was the story of Week 12 in college football. Among the top 10 teams in the College Football Playoff rankings only No. 5 Tennessee and No. 10 Utah lost, but close calls and survival were the story for many.

So how will the College Football Playoff rankings look when they get updated and released on Tuesday night? We took our best guess at that late Saturday night, and you should certainly check it out.

Now a man who is such a big deal in college football that he had his own personal foot warmer on ESPN’s “College Gameday” yesterday, has released his.

Here is how Herbstreit ranks the top six with one week of the regular season to go before conference championships take place.

Notre Dame’s Tommy Rees named to Herbstreit’s top performing coaches of Week 4

How impressed were you with Tommy Rees on Saturday?

All too often in life we go around searching for someone to blame for something.  Instead of it being a collective failure, it has to fall on one person.  One scapegoat, if you will.

That one person seemed to be offensive coordinator [autotag]Tommy Rees[/autotag] after the first three weeks of struggles for the Fighting Irish offense but before their 45-32 dismantling of North Carolina.  It turns out Notre Dame fans weren’t the only ones giving praise to Rees for the offensive breakout but that [autotag]Kirk Herbstreit[/autotag] took note as well, listing the former Notre Dame signal caller as one of his top performing coaches in all of college football for Week 4.

Notre Dame’s offense scored six touchdowns, nearly a seventh before a goal line fumble, and totaled 576 yards on the afternoon.

Rees was one of seven coaches mentioned by Herbstreit as he actually ranked second for the weekend.  See the seven Herbstreit ranked in order below:

How do your top six compare to Herbstreit’s?

After a wild rivalry weekend of college football that shook up the top 25 and made a major impact on the College Football Playoff, we now start sorting out the pieces.

Notre Dame is in the clubhouse with an 11-1 record but will Wisconsin’s loss hurt the Irish chances at making the CFP?

Will Michigan pass Alabama in the rankings?

And how far will Oklahoma State move up after winning a thriller over Oklahoma?

Kirk Herbstreit offered his new college football rankings on Sunday morning as he normally does and it went as follows:

Kirk Herbstreit has new top six following Oregon’s blowout loss

What is your top six after Oregon and Michigan State were both routed Saturday?

Saturday saw some favorites like Georgia and Ohio State roll while others were tested a bit (Alabama), and one was run out of the building (Oregon).

What did those results have on the College Football Playoff rankings that will be released on Tuesday?

Is Cincinnati as good as in by winning out now?

Is Notre Dame really a threat to crash the CFP party?

We’re not certain yet but can use the guidance of a few experts who have released their new rankings following the weekend.

Kirk Herbstreit released his new top-six on Sunday morning and here is how they look:

And is there an unbeaten team he’s forgetting?

What does your current top six in all of college football look like?

Kirk Herbstreit has released his updated college football top six rankings after a fairly crazy week nine wrapped up this weekend.

Despite winning by 19 on the road and staying unbeaten as they won fairly easily at Tulane, Cincinnati slid in Herbstreit’s rankings.  Who then moved up in order to bump them down?

Below are Herbstreit’s latest top six rankings:

Kirk Herbstreit on Georgia football QB Jake Fromm: ‘I’m a huge fan of his’

Kirk Herbstreit has high praise of Georgia football QB Jake Fromm ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Georgia football quarterback Jake Fromm is a guy who has been overlooked all offseason regarding his NFL Draft value.

Prior to the 2019 college football season, he was projected as an early first round draft choice, with some mocks having him as a top-five pick last summer. After a drop-off in production during his junior year, Fromm watched as his draft stock continued to dip.

Now, projected anywhere between a second and fifth round pick, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, a big Fromm fan, delivered a message to NFL scouts and general managers regarding Fromm’s draft stock.

“Anybody who has heard me talk about Jake Fromm over the past couple years knows I’m a huge fan of his,” Herbstreit said during an NFL Draft conference call. “He’s just an old soul. He’s a guy who isn’t going to go to the combine and blow everybody away with arm strength, but he’s a guy kind of like Gardner Minshew. He didn’t check every box, but next thing you know you draft him, he’s smart and picked up the system and after an injury, he’s in there and playing. Executing.

“Jake Fromm reminds me of that kind of guy. I’m interested in where he goes and what system. Whoever gets him is getting a gym rat.”

Herbstreit nailed it when discussing Fromm’s work-ethic and smarts. The Georgia signal caller recorded the second highest score in the Wonderlic test among draft-eligible quarterbacks and has often been praised for his pre-game preparation and film study.
