Ohio State baseball bounces back, smokes Harvard 13-1

The Ohio State baseball team got a big bounce-back win against Harvard Saturday.

The Ohio State baseball team got a much-needed win on Saturday, crushing Harvard 13-1 and will look to win the weekend tomorrow.

It didn’t take long for the Buckeyes to get on the board. Connor Pohl slammed a two-run shot in the bottom of the 1st inning to open the scoring. More runs followed in the 2nd inning for Ohio State when the flood gates opened with five more runs. Nate Karaffa singled home two runs, followed by a two-run double by Dillon Dingler and another RBI single by Brent Todys, and just like that, the Buckeyes opened up a 7-0 advantage after just two innings of play.

Harvard would get its only run of the game in the bottom of the 2nd inning when it doubled home a run to make it 7-1. But this day would belong to the scarlet and gray.

The Buckeyes would plate six more runs with the big blow coming on a two-run homer by Dingler in the top of the 4th inning.

Meanwhile starting pitcher Garrett Burhenn had a career game on the mound. He pitched seven innings of five-hit, one-run ball — setting a career-best in strikeouts with thirteen.

With the win, Ohio State improves its record to 4-7 and will be back in action tomorrow against Fairfield at 7PM.

But that’s not all. One play in Alabama’s sweep against Harvard last weekend has gone viral, and it’s easy to understand why. You have to watch this video for yourself:

Have you ever seen such an insane play?

Alabama’s Kolby Robinson sent a ground ball to third, but a throwing error by Harvard allowed him to reach at first. But that was just the beginning.

The wild sequence ensued as Harvard committed two more errors on the play and allowed three runs to score, including Robinson himself.

The Crimson Tide will host Lipscomb in a weekend series starting Friday at 6PM CT. The series will be on the SEC Network and SEC Network+.

Alabama baseball sweeps Harvard in weekend series in Tuscaloosa

On Sunday, the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team improved to 12-0 after sweeping Harvard.

On Sunday, the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team improved to 12-0 after sweeping Harvard. This is the second-best start to a season in program history.

On Friday, Alabama won 15-3, followed by a 10-5 win on Saturday. With Sunday’s 6-3 win, Alabama has once again completed a sweep. Last week Alabama swept UNLV in Las Vegas.

On Sunday, Alabama was led by TJ Reeves. Reeves finished with two as part of his 1-for-4 afternoon that included the home run, a walk and one run scored.

Head Coach Brad Bohannon had this to say after the game:

“This was just another really good win for us today. When the wind’s blowing in, you’re going to be in tight games and that was a good experience for us to be in, a tight game like that. Antoine (Jean) pitched well today, worked around some bad luck, some soft contact, and, obviously, I feel like I keep saying this but the bullpen was just awesome. (Jacob) McNairy and (Brock) Guffey were outstanding. We had a couple of games the last week and a half where we have gotten behind, and one of the big keys to winning those games is the bullpen coming in, giving our offense time to work and multiple guys have just been really, really good in that role. I’m glad to get the win, glad to get the sweep, and I’m excited to continue to move forward with league play around the corner.”

Alabama will host South Alabama on Wednesday in Tuscaloosa on March 3rd. On Thursday, Alabama will also host North Alabama, Both games are scheduled for 3 PM CT and will be on SEC Network+.
