Steelers announce 2023 Hall of Honor class

James Harrison and Aaron Smith among Hall of Honor class of 2023.

On Saturday, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced their 2023 class for the Hall of Honor. This year’s class will be James Harrison, Aaron Smith, Gerry Mullins and Ray Mansfield.

Mansfield played center for the Steelers from 1964-1976. He was named an All-Pro twice and won two Super Bowls. He is a forgotten man because of Mike Webster but is an all-time great in his own right.

Mullins was the guard next to Mansfield as well as Webster for many of those years. He was on the Steelers from 1971-1979 and was part of all of the Steelers six Super Bowl Championships that decade.

Smith played defensive end for the Steelers from 1999-2011 and is one of the most underrated players in franchise history. Despite little fanfare, Smith finished with 44 sacks and won two Super Bowls.

Harrison’s story is long and winding. After joining the team in 2002 as an undrafted free agent, Harrison was on and off the roster until finding a starting role in 2007. Harrison finished his career as the franchise sack leader with 80.5, won a Super Bowl, Defensive Player of the Year, was an All-Pro four times and was part of the most exciting play in Super Bowl history.

Panthers tease pair of upcoming Hall of Honor inductions

It looks like the Panthers have just opened up two spots in their Hall of Honor.

The Carolina Panthers Hall of Honor is going to get a bit more crowded at some point this season.

On Thursday morning, the team released a 26-second video hinting at the upcoming inductions of two honorees. But for whom the teaser is for, we do not know . . . yet.

Check it out:

The Hall of Honor was established in 1997, beginning with former team president and general manager Mike McCormack as its very first inductee. Since then, five more franchise legends have joined him.

Linebacker Sam Mills was called upon in 1998, becoming the first former player to gain access into the club. Mills, the inspiration behind the organization’s “Keep Pounding” mantra, has since been immortalized with a statue outside of Bank of America Stadium as well as his enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last summer.

It wouldn’t be until 2019, behind a push from owner David Tepper, that McCormack and Mills finally got some company. They were joined by tight end Wesley Walls, offensive tackle Jordan Gross, quarterback Jake Delhomme and the Panthers’ all-time leading receiver Steve Smith Sr.

And soon, they’ll have to make room for two more.

Joe Adams, Gary Blair highlight Arkansas Hall of Honor selections

Arkansas’ Hall of Honor Class of 2022 is loaded with Razorbacks legends.

Former Arkansas wide receiver and kick returner Joe Adams and former women’s basketball coach Gary Blair were among seven University of Arkansas athletics icons who were selected for the Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor Class of 2022 it was announced Thursday.

Adams, who was named an All-American in 2011, played wide receiver and punt returner for the Razorbacks from 2008-11. He ran back four punts for touchdowns in 2011 and his 16.9 yards-per-return average was second in the country.

Blair coached Arkansas to five NCAA Tournaments appearances in his 10 seasons from 1993-2003. The Razorbacks made the Final Four in 1998 under Blair’s guidance when they were a No. 9 seed, which remains the lowest-seeded team to make it that far.

“We look forward to celebrating the tremendous accomplishments of these outstanding Razorbacks as part of the UA Sports Hall of Honor,” athletic director Hunter Yurachek said. “This year’s class includes NCAA and conference champions, a hall of fame coach and an administrator who helped form the foundation for varsity women’s sports at the University of Arkansas. These men and women reflect the very best our program has to offer.”

Other inductees include former pitcher Bill Bakewell (baseball), Ruth Cohoon (first women’s athletics director), high-jumper Ray Doakes (track and field), gymnast Katherine Grable, swingman Ron Huery (basketball), catcher Andy Skeels (baseball) and defensive lineman Dale White (football).

The induction ceremony will be held Friday, September 16, the night before Arkansas football hosts Missouri State at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

LOOK: Chiefs unveil redesigned Hall of Honor at Arrowhead Stadium

The #Chiefs are unveiling their brand-new Hall of Honor tonight. The remodel has interactive exhibits featuring the greatest players and moments in franchise history.

The Kansas City Chiefs have made an entirely new wave of improvements to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium this offseason.

They spent over $13 million upgrading key features of the stadium, from new club-level seating to a newly redesigned locker room for the players. One of the newest upgrades is finally being unveiled today, which is an exciting redesign of the Chiefs’ Hall of Honor.

The team is having a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly redesigned Hall of Honor this evening. Several former players who are featured in the exhibit along with Clark Hunt are speaking at the dedication. Some media members are also in attendance for this and got a first-hand look at the new exhibit.

Saints LB Demario Davis to be inducted to Arkansas State Hall of Honor

Here’s good news for Demario Davis: the New Orleans Saints linebacker will be inducted to the Arkansas State Hall of Honor in September, where he’ll join other prominent Red Wolves athletes. It’s a big moment for Davis, who credits the coaching and positive environment he encountered at Arkansas State with turning his life around.

He’s got an argument to be the best free agent signing in Saints history behind Drew Brees. Davis answered a decades-long drought at linebacker after joining the black and gold in 2018, playing at an even higher level than fan-favorite predecessors like Jonathan Vilma. He won a spot on the All-Pro first team in 2019 and has become one of the most popular players on the team in recent years.

He’s also the only player in the NFL to record at least 110 tackles (10 or more of them for loss of yards) and four sacks in each of the last four years, three of which were spent with the Saints. He turned 32 back in January, but he’s still playing the best football of his career.

The ceremony is scheduled for Sept. 3, falling in-between New Orleans’ final preseason game on Aug. 28 and their Week 1 kickoff on Sept. 12. It’s unclear whether Davis will be able to attend with heightened COVID-19 concerns abounding, but here’s hoping he gets to enjoy the moment at some point with those close to him.
