Bears sign CB Greg Stroman Jr. to reserve/future contract

The Bears have signed CB Greg Stroman Jr., who appeared in the final two games of 2022, to a reserve/future deal.

The Chicago Bears have signed cornerback Greg Stroman Jr. to a reserve/future contract heading into the 2023 season, the team announced Thursday.

Stroman was on the Bears’ roster last summer but was part of final roster cuts ahead of the 2022 season. Stroman was re-signed to the team’s practice squad on Dec. 28, where he appeared in the final two games of the season.

That included starting the Week 18 season finale against the Vikings, where he logged four tackles and an interception.

Stroman provides key depth at cornerback heading into the 2023 offseason, where general manager Ryan Poles will look to build his roster, including a cornerback group that consists of Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon.

Stroman joins the following players who have been signed to reserve/future deals: Tight end Chase Allen, safety Adrian Colbert, linebacker Kuony Deng, offensive tackle Kellen Diesch, wide receiver Daurice Fountain, defensive end Gerri Green, defensive lineman Donovan Jeter, wide receiver Joe Reed, tight end Jake Tonges and wide receiver Nsimba Webster.

Bears CB Greg Stroman Jr. among ‘Secret Superstars’ of preseason Week 3

Bears CB Greg Stroman Jr. had an impressive preseason performance vs. Browns, which might help him earn a roster spot.

As the Chicago Bears work on trimming their roster to 53, there are a number of roster bubbles who have made strong impressions this preseason. That includes veteran cornerback Greg Stroman Jr., who made his preseason debut last Saturday against the Cleveland Browns.

Stroman had 4 tackles, 2 pass breakups and an interception of Browns quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar has also been impressed with what he’s seen from Stroman, especially coming out of Saturday’s game against the Browns. Farrar named Stroman one of his “Secret Superstars” from the final week of the preseason.

Stroman, the former Washington (NFL) cornerback who hasn’t played since the 2020 season, showed against the Browns on Saturday that he’d like to help with that improvement process. He gave up two catches on six targets for 12 yards, this interception, an opponent passer rating of 2.8. Moreover, Stroman looked impressively sticky throughout routes he was covering when it was time to match receivers.

With roster cuts underway, Stroman is a roster bubble player who elevated his stock last Saturday and could secure a spot on the 53-man roster.

Secret Superstars for Week 3 of the 2022 NFL preseason: The defense

Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar lets you in on the most prominent under-the-radar defensive performances in the final week of the 2022 NFL preseason.

With final cuts just around the corner (all teams must reduce their rosters to 53 by Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. EST), and the 2022 regular season starting Thursday, September 8, anybody who doesn’t have a lock on a starting job tends to see the final week of the preseason as a sort of Hunger Games. At this point, you’re not just trying to impress your coaches and your teammates — you’re just trying to hang onto the roster spot you have, or give enough of an effort to make other teams aware. Perhaps one of those teams will pick you up if you do get cut.

Our Secret Superstars list for that final week of the preseason has a lot of guys who may have either evaded the Turk (the guy who comes to your room, knocks on your door, and quietly asks you to bring your playbook to the head coach’s office to let you know you’re off the team), or have done enough to eliminate any doubt as to their veracity as starters in the league.

The clock is ticking, oxygen is getting thin, and it’s all about to be for real. Here are the under-the-radar players who did the most to advance their cases for themselves in Week 3 of the 2022 preseason. Since there were so many of them this week, we’re splitting the list into two parts. The Secret Superstars All-Offense team is right here.

Updated look at Bears cornerback depth after Greg Stroman Jr. signing

With Greg Stroman Jr. joining the Bears, here’s a look at where Chicago’s cornerback depth stands.

The Chicago Bears signed cornerback Greg Stroman Jr. to a one-year deal, which makes him the second cornerback move in free agency for general manager Ryan Poles.

A former seventh-round pick by the Washington Commanders in 2018, Stroman saw significant playing time as a rookie starting 15 games, where he had an interception, a forced fumble and totaled 38 tackles. But injuries derailed his career, and he played just three games in the following two seasons.

With the addition of Stroman Jr., here’s a look at the Bears’ cornerback depth:
