2020 3M Open Prop Bet Payday: Matchups, Placings and FRL Picks

Analyzing prop bets for the 2020 3M Open, with PGA Tour odds, picks and best bets for the top matchup, placing and FRL options.

TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minn., hosts the 2020 3M Open with the opening round Thursday. Matthew Wolff tries to defend his 2019 victory in the inaugural event against the weakest field we’ve seen since the PGA Tour returned to play. As a result, there’s plenty of betting value beyond the top names of Dustin JohnsonBrooks KoepkaTony Finau and Tommy Fleetwood. Below, we look at the best prop bets for the 3M Open, including matchups, placings and first-round leader picks.

Odds provided by BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. ET.

Dustin Johnson (-134) vs. Brooks Koepka

Johnson and Koepka are the first and fourth betting favorites at +1000 and +1600, respectively. They’re the class of a weaker field, but there’s no value in betting them outright in what’s likely their final preparations for the PGA Championship.

Johnson missed the cut last week at plus-16 after opening 80-80 in the tough conditions at Muirfield Village Golf Club. He’ll bounce back on a much easier course following his weekend off.

Tony Finau (-125) vs. Tommy Fleetwood

Finau collapsed last week at the Memorial Tournament as Jon Rahm went on to win by three strokes over Ryan Palmer and Finau finished eighth. Finau will recover in easier scoring conditions and against a weaker field as Fleetwood makes his first appearance since The Players Championship was canceled.

2020 3M Open: Placing bets

Top 5: Ryan Armour (+1600)

Armour finished T-6 at the Travelers Championship and T-4 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic before a missed cut at the Workday Charity Open. He finished at minus-15 and minus-16 in his two top results and should have little trouble lighting up TPC Twin Cities.

Top 10: Bernd Wiesberger (+850)

The golf betting community missed on Wiesberger last week, as he missed the cut at plus-7. Typically playing only majors and World Golf Championship events while dominating the European Tour, the 3M Open will feature one of the easiest courses and weakest fields of any PGA Tour event he has played.

Top British/Irish: Tommy Fleetwood (+120)

Fleetwood doesn’t hold much value at +1500 to win the first tournament he has played in four months. He is +100 to be the top English player, but his odds rise with only Russell Knox (+900) and Seamus Power (+1600) being added as competition.

Top player from the rest of the world: Emiliano Grillo (+1400)

Grillo is priced sixth in this group led by South African Erik Van Rooyen at +600. Grillo missed the cut last week while losing 2.46 strokes per round putting, but he gained 0.88 strokes off-the-tee. The latter is the much more important statistic at TPC Twin Cities, and he’ll be able to contend without needing to worry as much about the flat stick.

2020 3M Open: First-round leader bet

Derek Ernst (+17500)

Ernst, a former PGA Tour winner, returns to a PGA Tour event for the first time since a T-52 finish at the Puerto Rico Open in February. He has dominated the Korn Ferry Tour of late with three straight finishes of T-12 or better and looks to carry his top form to the next level.

Lucas Glover (+4500)

Glover finished T-7 last year at minus-16 after firing a Sunday round of 62. His T-38 finish last week was his worst result in five events since returning to play, as he has been one of the most consistent in the strong fields. He’s ready to break through against softer competition.

2020 Memorial Tournament Prop Bet Payday: Matchups, Placings and FRL Picks

Analyzing prop bets for the 2020 Memorial Tournament, with PGA Tour odds, picks and best bets for the top matchup, placing and FRL options.

The 2020 Memorial Tournament is set to tee off Thursday with a star-studded field featuring 23 of the top 25 golfers in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings, including Tiger Woods. Below, we’ll look at the best prop bet offering at BetMGM and make our PGA Tour picks and best bets for the 2020 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.

Odds provided by BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday, July 15 at 5 a.m. ET.

Jon Rahm vs. Collin Morikawa (-118)

Morikawa was victorious at this venue last week in the Workday Charity Open. The course is expected to undergo some minor alterations this week and will see faster greens and thicker rough. It won’t matter for Morikawa. Take him as only a modest favorite. Rahm tied for 27th last week and lost 0.25 strokes per round around the greens, according to Data Golf.

Rickie Fowler vs. Gary Woodland (-106)

Fowler and Woodland are both veterans of this event with multiple top-10 finishes each. Woodland fared better last week, finishing T-5 at 12-under par to Fowler’s T-22 at minus-8. Take the US Open champ with the conditions and field being more reminiscent of a major.

Webb Simpson (-118) vs. Xander Schauffele

Simpson was off last week while Schauffele finished T-14 at 10-under. Take the two-time winner in 2020 in a pick ’em. Simpson has 12 more career rounds played at Muirfield Village GC than Schauffele.

2020 Memorial Tournament: Placing bets

Top 5: Patrick Cantlay (+375)

Cantlay tied for seventh last week on the back of a final-round, 7-under 65. The 2019 Memorial champ hasn’t finished outside the top 20 in a PGA Tour event since the Safeway Open and should improve on last week’s finish despite the stronger field.

Top 10: Abraham Ancer (+450)

Ancer ranks 11th on Tour this season in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and SG: Approach. He finished T-14, 2nd and T-11 in the first three events back before taking the last two weeks off. Expect the strong form to continue in his third appearance at this event.

Group B: Viktor Hovland (+400)

Hovland’s the biggest long shot in a group with Morikawa (+320), Rahm (+320), Simpson (+375) and Schauffele (+375). Hovland led the field in SG: Off the Tee and SG: Tee-to-Green last week and his third-place finish was his best result since play resumed.

Top Austrian: Bernd Wiesberger (+170)

Wiesberger has higher odds than Sepp Straka (+150), who finished T-14 last week at 10-under in his debut at Muirfield Village. Wiesberger won three times on the European Tour in 2019 and ranks 96 spots higher in the Golfweek rankings.

2020 Memorial Tournament: First-round leader bet

Rory McIlroy (+2200)

McIlroy leads the PGA Tour with 1.883 SG: Tee-to-Green through 27 measured rounds this season. His Round 1 scoring average of 67.56 through nine events is also No. 1 on Tour. He has four top 10s here since 2010.

Adam Hadwin (+7000)

Hadwin sat second last week after an opening round of 6-under 66. He broke par in just one other round last week, but still managed to finish 35th.

How to bet Tiger Woods at the Memorial Tournament: Odds to win & prop bets

Looking at Tiger Woods’ chances of winning the 2020 Memorial Tournament, including PGA Tour betting options at Muirfield Village GC.

[jwplayer bvqccpyX]

Tiger Woods returns to PGA Tour tournament play for the first time since mid-February this week at the 2020 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. He’ll attempt to win for a record-setting 83rd time on the PGA Tour at one of six tournaments he has won a minimum of five times. Below, we’ll look at Tiger Woods’ betting odds to win the 2020 Memorial Tournament and make our picks for the most profitable prop bets centered him this week.

Woods enters the week ranked 25th in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings. Just two of the top 25 aren’t included in the star-studded field at Jack Nicklaus’ tournament this week. World No. 1 Rory McIlroy, 2019 Memorial champ Patrick Cantlay, 2020 Workday Charity Open champ Collin Morikawa and Bryson DeChambeau are among them.

Golf fans last saw Woods at The Match: Champions for Charity with Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. His irons seemed to be in top form as he battled through the pouring rain.

Tiger Woods’ history at Muirfield Village Golf Club

It’s quite fitting that Woods has another chance to set the PGA Tour’s wins record with a sixth win at a tournament founded by Nicklaus on a course the Golden Bear designed. Tiger’s winning scores have ranged from minus-9 (2012) to minus-19 (2000).

Tiger won this event five times from 1999 to 2012. He tied for ninth last year, finishing 10 shots back at 9-under par. This was his lone tournament in between a missed cut at the 2019 PGA Championship and the US Open.

He’s likely using this week’s event as his final tune-up for the 2020 PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park from Aug. 6-9.

Tiger Woods’ odds to win the Memorial Tournament

Odds provided by BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 9 a.m. ET.

Woods is ranked 23rd in the field by the Golfweek rankings, but he shares the ninth-best odds to win at +2500 with Hideki Matsuyama, Webb Simpson and Xander Schauffele.

There isn’t much value in backing Tiger, especially compared to the fourth-ranked and two-time 2020 winner Simpson. Still, golf fans will want a piece of Big Cat as he chases down history. Sprinkle a small wager on Tiger to win the Memorial and hedge with other prop bets.

Best props on Tiger Woods at the Memorial Tournament

To finish in the top 10: +260

Woods is priced right for a top-10 finish with the 10th-best odds reflecting his odds to win the tournament. A $10 wager here would return a profit of $26, as he looks to replicate last season’s T-9 finish.

He tied for ninth at the Farmers Insurance Open in his first tournament of 2020 before finishing just 68th at The Genesis Invitational. Hedge against your outright bet with some insurance in this incredibly strong field.

Lowest score over 72 holes – Group C: +320

Woods is the second favorite in a group with Matsuyama, Daniel BergerRickie Fowler and Gary Woodland. Matsuyama won here in 2014 and has two top-10 finishes since. Berger won the Charles Schwab Challenge in the PGA Tour’s restart. Woodland finished T-5 last week, and Fowler finished T-22 at this same venue.

Woods has better odds to win the tournament than all but Matsuyama from this group. There’s value here when removing the top-8 favorites from the pool.

Will Tiger Woods make the cut? No: +200

Hedge against everything else going wrong with an offsetting wager on Tiger to miss the cut. While not the result any golf fan should be rooting for, turning a $10 bet into a $20 profit can cover losses on the bets made for higher returns.

2020 Workday Charity Open Prop Bet Payday: Matchup, Placing and FRL Picks

Analyzing prop bets for the 2020 Workday Charity Open, with odds and picks for the best matchup, placing and FRL best bets.

[jwplayer Ed28Mjar]

The Workday Charity Open replaces the canceled John Deere Classic on the PGA Tour schedule this week and will be the first of two straight tournaments played at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Muirfield Village Golf Club. Jon Rahm fronts the strong 156-man field as the No. 2 golfer in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings. Below, we look at the best matchup, placing and first-round leader bets to pair with your outright picks for the Workday Charity Open.

Patrick Cantlay (-118) vs. Hideki Matsuyama

Cantlay won the 2019 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village while Matsuyama finished sixth. The two are priced at +1500 and +1600, respectively, to win the tournament, making Cantlay a slight favorite in this matchup.

Cantlay has gained an average of 3.23 strokes across 12 career rounds at Muirfield Village to lead the field this week, according to Data Golf. Matsuyama tied for 21st in a weaker field at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last week, while Cantlay tied for 11th at the Travelers Championship in his only event since play resumed.

Rickie Fowler vs. Justin Rose (-125)

Fowler’s T-12 finish last week was his best result since returning to play after he missed the cut in his first two events. Rose took a week off following a missed cut at the Travelers, but had previously tied for 14th at the RBC Heritage and third at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Rose has averaged 2.39 strokes gained per round across 46 rounds played here.

2020 Workday Charity Open: Placing bets

Top 10: Tom Hoge (+1200)

Hoge has missed the cut in three of four events since returning to play, but returns to a course where he last finished T-13 in 2018. He ranks fifth in SG: Approach and second in Proximity from 175-200 Yards across everyone’s last 50 rounds on courses over 7,400 yards in length, according to Fantasy National.

Top European: Justin Rose (+500)

Rose is the third favorite behind Jon Rahm (+240) and Viktor Hovland (+400) in this group. Rose won the Memorial in 2010 and was the runner-up in 2008 and 2015, and showed great form in his first two events back.

Top Canadian Player: Adam Hadwin (+138)

We cashed this bet on Hadwin at a chalky -200 last week as he finished T-4 while gaining 1.37 strokes tee-to-green, to accompany his usually strong putter. His odds have risen considerably this week with Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes back in the field as two of the next best three Canadians, but Hadwin is still in the best form.

2020 Workday Charity Open: First-round leader bet

Patrick Cantlay (+2800)

As noted above, Cantlay is just +1500 to win this event outright and is a much more profitable play to lead after Round 1 in his defense of Muirfield Village. He leads the PGA Tour with a first-round scoring average of 67.33 through six rounds in the 2019-20 season. His 5-under 65 in the final round of the Travelers was his best round since returning to play.

2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic Prop Bet Payday: Matchup, Placing and FRL Picks

Analyzing prop bets for the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic, with odds and picks for the best matchup, placing and FRL best bets.

[jwplayer GSXT56dF]

After placing your bets for the outright winner of the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic and setting your fantasy golf lineup, it’s time to flush out your weekly betting card with a wide selection of prop bets.

The 7,334-yard, par-72 Detroit Golf Club welcomes Webb SimpsonBryson DeChambeau and yet another strong field – starting Thursday – for the fourth event in the PGA Tour’s return to play. Simpson leads all in attendance while ranking third in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings. The RBC Heritage winner returns after withdrawing from the Travelers Championship last week amid COVID-19 concerns.

J.T. Poston (-118) vs. Kevin Na

Poston, who finished T-11 here last year, is in a pick’em with Na, who debuts at this event. Na finished fifth last week at the Travelers Championship, while Poston missed the cut after finishing T-8 at the RBC Heritage and T-10 at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Trust his modest experience here to spark a return to form.

Sungjae Im vs. Tony Finau (-106)

Both golfers have disappointed in stronger fields the last two weeks. Finau ranks first in this field in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and eighth in SG: Approach over everyone’s last 50 rounds, according to Fantasy National, and he’s a value as a slight underdog in this matchup.

Looking to place a bet on the Rocket Mortgage Classic? Get some action on it at BetMGM. Bet Now!

2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic: Placing bets

Top 5: Cameron Tringale (+2800)

Tringale will need to repeat last year’s finish in Detroit despite the significantly stronger field in attendance. He was second among those who made the cut with 2.02 SG: Tee-to-Green per round last year, according to Data Golf, while finishing eight shots off the lead at minus-17. He ranks fourth overall by my stat model this week.

Who will the best player from the Rest of The World be? Hideki Matsuyama (+400)

Matsuyama is getting much better odds here than he is for Top Asian Player (+125), despite his top competition being Im in both pools. Matsuyama topped Im with a T-13 to T-21 finish at Detroit Golf Club in 2019. He ranks third in SG: Tee-to-Green, and ninth in SG: Approach and Bogey Avoidance.

Top South African Player: Erik Van Rooyen (+220)

Van Rooyen is the best course fit with the best tee-to-green game in a pool that includes Christiaan BezuidenhoutBranden Grace and Charl Schwartzel. Top-ranked South African Louis Oosthuizen isn’t in attendance.

Top Canadian Player: Adam Hadwin (-200)

Sometimes it’s OK to eat a little chalk. At 19th in the Golfweek rankings, Hadwin is easily the top-ranked Canadian. No. 2, Corey Conners (69th), and No. 3, Mackenzie Hughes (234th), are off this week. Roger Sloan (+450) ranks 343rd.

2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic: First-round leader bets

Bryson DeChambeau (+1600)

The odds for DeChambeau to lead after Round 1 are much better than his +600 odds to win the tournament. He’s third on Tour in the 2019-20 season and first in this field with a first-round scoring average of 67.80 through 10 rounds. Plus, he has started two of his last three tournaments with an opening-round 65.

Doc Redman (+5500)

Redman was last year’s runner-up, losing by six strokes to Nate Lashley. Redman resurfaced last week with a T-11 finish at the Travelers Championship. Like DeChambeau, his first-round leader odds are much better than his tournament price of +4500. He has a scheduling advantage by being in the second group off the first tee Thursday.

2020 RBC Heritage Prop Bet Payday: Match Betting, Placing and FRL Odds and Picks

Analyzing prop bets for the 2020 RBC Heritage, with odds, picks and best bets for the best match betting and placing options.

The 2020 RBC Heritage takes place this week at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, S.C., with another loaded field. We’ve looked at the best bets and the top-30 fantasy rankings and below, we’ll look at the best prop bets for the RBC Heritage and make our picks.

2020 RBC Heritage: Matchup bets

Odds provided by BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday, June 17 at 7:55 a.m. ET.

Patrick Reed vs. Webb Simpson (-118)

Simpson has a better history at Harbour Town with a T-5 in 2018 and two other top 20s in the last three years, while Reed hasn’t played here since a missed cut in 2015. Simpson also ranks third in the field in Strokes Gained: Putting on Bermuda greens. He looks to bounce back from a missed cut last week.

Xander Schauffele vs. Collin Morikawa (+115)

Morikawa has good value at plus-money coming off a runner-up finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He makes his debut at Harbour Town, but that situation hasn’t been an issue for him yet as he remains without a missed cut as a professional.

Gary Woodland (-133) vs. Jordan Spieth

Spieth received a lot more camera time than Woodland last week. The reigning US Open champion finished alone in ninth place, while Spieth was part of a large group at T-10. Play it safe with the more reliable Woodland. Spieth won’t have the same room for error off the tee this week and Woodland ranks 14th in the field in SG: Off the Tee.

2020 RBC Heritage: Placing bets

Top 5: Sam Burns (+4500)

Burns finished alone in ninth at the 2019 RBC Heritage. He ranks fifth in this field in SG: Putting on Bermuda greens.

Top 10: Rory Sabbatini (+800)

Sabbatini was T-14 last week and he was T-10 here in 2019. He can avoid bogeys and will have plenty of scoring opportunities on the par 5s.

Lowest score Group D: Branden Grace (+400)

Grace’s lone PGA Tour victory to date came at the 2016 RBC Heritage. He returned to the European Tour’s winner’s circle for the ninth time at the South African Open in mid-January. He opened the Charles Schwab Challenge with three straight rounds of 66 before firing a Sunday 73 to finish T-19.

2020 RBC Heritage: Tournament specials

Leader after 1st round: Luke Donald (+10000)

Donald, a former world No. 1, had runner-up finishes in 2016 and 2017 while opening with a 65 and 66, respectively. He followed them up with a missed cut in 2018 and a T-33 in 2019, but he’s still among the best Bermuda putters in the field

Fantasy Golf Power Rankings for the 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge

Analyzing the best fantasy golf options for the 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club.

The 2019-20 PGA Tour season resumes Thursday, June 11, with the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. Previously an invitational event, the 2020 field is expanded to 144 golfers, including many of those ranked at the top of the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings. Below, we look at the top fantasy golf picks for the 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge.

Colonial Country Club features Bentgrass greens and measures 7,209 yards with a par of 70. The scores of the last five tournament winners have ranged from 10-under par to minus-20.

Charles Schwab Challenge: Fantasy Golf Top 30

Here are my top-30 fantasy golf rankings for the 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club.

30. Brandt Snedeker

Snedeker has a strong history at Colonial, having gained an average of 1.06 strokes per round on the field across 36 career rounds. He made the cut in each of his last five trips to Fort Worth, picking up a T-2 in 2015 and a T-19 last year.

29. Adam Hadwin

Hadwin is an excellent putter on Bentgrass greens. He tied for fifth at Colonial in 2015 and followed it with three more made cuts before skipping last year’s event.

28. Harris English

Another strong putter (sensing a theme?), English was the runner-up in 2016. He ranks fifth in the field among those with a minimum of 10 rounds played with 1.58 true strokes gained per round at Colonial, according to Data Golf.

27. Shane Lowry

Lowry makes his debut at Colonial coming off his 2019 Open Championship victory. The 24th-ranked golfer in the Golfweek rankings tied for 21st at The Honda Classic in a rare non-major appearance in North America before the season was suspended.

26. Kevin Na

The 2019 Charles Schwab Challenge champion has finished inside the top 10 in three of his last four visits to Fort Worth. He’s a steady performer on and around the greens.

25. Matt Kuchar

Kuchar had a couple of strong finishes early this year. He won the SMBC Singapore Open on the Asian and Japanese Tours, and he was a co-runner-up at The Genesis Invitational. He’s well-experienced at Colonial with 42 career rounds and an average of 1.48 strokes gained per round.

24. Marc Leishman

Leishman won the Farmers Insurance Open and finished second at the Arnold Palmer Invitational before his season was put on hold. He’s not a particularly strong putter on Bentgrass surfaces, but the rest of his short-game play has been in excellent form.

23. Joaquin Niemann

Niemann opened the 2019-20 season with a victory at A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier. He was ice cold to begin the 2020 portion of the schedule, missing the cut at The Genesis Invitational, The Honda Classic and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He still ranks third in my stat model at Fantasy National, which looks at everyone’s most recent 50 rounds played on courses with Bentgrass greens.

22. Lucas Glover

Glover ranks 10th by the same stat model, leaning on a strength of Par 4 Efficiency on holes measuring between 400 and 450 yards. He missed the cut in his last two appearances here, but his 38 career rounds rank among the most of anyone in the field.

21. Scottie Scheffler

The reigning Korn Ferry Tour Player of the Year finished T-15 at the API prior to the Tour’s season being suspended. He’ll debut at Colonial having shot up to 28th in the Golfweek rankings.

20. Byeong Hun An

An bucks the trend of backing putters, but he was in otherwise excellent form earlier this year, highlighted by a T-4 finish at The Honda Classic. He ranks among the best in the field in Strokes Gained: Scrambling, and he has a good approach game.

19. Daniel Berger

Berger was showing flashes of his former self earlier this year. He finished T-4 at The Honda Classic and T-5 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Putting is a weakness, but his ball-striking is back in top form.

18. Rickie Fowler

Golf fans were able to see Fowler at the TaylorMade Driving Relief skins match where he was the best in a foursome consisting of Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Matthew Wolff. Fowler tied for 14th here in 2018, but he missed the cut last year.

17. Xander Schauffele

Schauffele has a surprisingly poor history at Colonial. He missed the cut each of the last two years following a T-48 finish in 2017. He’s a reliable putter who can get hot, and he is a low scorer.

16. Collin Morikawa

Morikawa still hasn’t missed a cut as a professional golfer on the PGA Tour. He tied for ninth in a strong field at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

15. Patrick Reed

Reed is an excellent putter and does extremely well on our selected par-4 distance of 400-450 yards. He tied for 15th here in 2016 before taking the last three years off.

14. Sungjae Im

Im, who picked up his first PGA Tour win at The Honda Classic earlier this year, missed the cut here in 2019, but he missed the cut in just two of 26 worldwide events since. He has an excellent short game and can create scoring opportunities.

13. Kevin Kisner

Kisner finished T-5 in 2015 and T-10 in 2016 before winning the plaid jacket in 2017. He has since finished T-52 and missed the cut in 2019. He is third in the field in SG: Putting on Bentgrass greens across everyone’s last 100 rounds on the surface.

12. Gary Woodland

Woodland was rounding into form immediately before the break, finishing T-12 at the WGC-Mexico Championship and T-8 at The Honda Classic. A weaker putter, he’ll rely on excellent ball striking and scoring.

11. Bryson DeChambeau

DeChambeau ranks fourth in my overall stat model. He missed the cut in three of four appearances here, but he finished inside the top five in each of his last three events in 2020.

10. Tony Finau

The 2019 runner-up has gained an average of 1.57 strokes per round across his 16 career rounds at Colonial. He’s an expert ball-striker and low scorer.

9. Jordan Spieth

Throw out any ill-feelings you may have toward Spieth due to his struggles over the past three seasons. The 2016 champion of Colonial tied for second in both 2015 and 2017 and tied for eighth last year. He leads the field with 2.52 strokes gained at this venue, and his putter has remained consistently elite amid his struggles from tee-to-green.

8. Jason Day

Day is the only member of the field better with the putter than Spieth over everyone’s last 100 rounds on Bentgrass. Persistent injury issues have kept him out of the winner’s circle since 2018, but he’ll be well-rested after last withdrawing from the API.

7. Dustin Johnson

Johnson was a disaster at the TaylorMade event, but it’s quite possible the charity event didn’t have his full interest. He ranks seventh in the stat model and is the second-best ball-striker over everyone’s last 50 rounds.

6. Webb Simpson

The No. 1 golfer in the Golfweek rankings skipped last year’s event following a missed cut in 2018. He was fifth in 2017 and tied for third in 2016. Putting isn’t a strength, but he excels as an escape artist, which could have him better prepared than most to shake off the rust.

5. Brooks Koepka

Koepka has now had plenty of time to rest and fully heal the knee injury which was plaguing his play early in the calendar year. He was the runner-up in 2018, his only career appearance at Colonial, and he gained 4.01 strokes on the field.

4. Rory McIlroy

McIlroy was in good, not great, form at the TaylorMade event. His closest-to-the-pin shot in the playoff proved to be the winner. He’s fifth in the stat model and will be looking for his first win of 2020 after four top-five finishes.

3. Jon Rahm

Rahm ranks fourth in the Golfweek rankings and his early 2020 form may have been trailing only McIloy. He collected two wins on the European Tour to end his 2019 campaign. He then finished second at the Farmers Insurance Open and tied for third in Mexico.

2. Justin Thomas

Thomas is another of the top-ranked golfers making his debut at Colonial in the restructured 2020 season. He bests the stat model, ranking first in Ball Striking and Birdies or Better Gained.

1. Justin Rose

Chalk Rose up as someone likely to have enjoyed the break from competitive golf. He had missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open, The Honda Classic and the API before play was suspended. He won here in 2018 and ranks second in the stat model coming in.

Betting the 2020 Players Championship: Odds and Picks for the Best Tournament Props

Analyzing the betting props around the 2020 Players Championship, with PGA Tour betting odds, picks, tips and best bets.

The 2020 Players Championship will see a stacked field of 144 of the world’s best golfers tee off Thursday morning at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Below, I look at my favorite tournament props for the 2020 Players Championship, with PGA Tour betting picks, tips and best bets.

Tiger Woods is the top-ranked golfer from the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings not in attendance, as world No. 1 Rory McIlroy prepares to defend his 2019 title.

Scottie Scheffler (+8000)

Scheffler is making his Players Championship debut, but the 2019 Korn Ferry Tour Player of the Year has made a seamless transition to the PGA Tour. He has missed the cut in just two of 13 events since A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier, and he has four top 10s in that time, along with a T-15 finish last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

He’s third on Tour in the 2019-20 season in Round 1 scoring average at 68.15. His 13 measured rounds are more than anyone else in the top five. The rookie scores low on short courses and he doesn’t have any glaring weaknesses right now.

Nick Taylor (+12500)

Taylor tied for 16th here last year for his best result at The Players, and he’ll make his first appearance as a PGA Tour champion following his breakout win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

The Canadian ranks 12th on Tour this year in Round 1 scoring average, and he finished 2019 ranked 16th. He opened with a first-round 73 last year, but he scored in the 60s each of the final three rounds.

2020 Players Championship: 3-ball match

Tyrrell Hatton/Paul Casey (+160)/Max Homa

Casey is the first-round bet to back in this trio. Hatton is coming off a win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational but missed the cut at this event each of the last two years. Homa will be making his TPC Sawgrass debut. Casey missed the cut last year, but the veteran had a T-22 in 2017 and a T-23 in 2016. He’s the safest bet in this trio with the second-best odds.

Viktor Hovland/Collin Morikawa (+125)/Matthew Wolff

All three youngsters are making their professional debuts at TPC Sawgrass, but all three already have a win in their young PGA Tour careers. Wolff finished outside the top 50 in each of his last two events, and Hovland has an MC and a T-42 in two events since winning the Puerto Rico Open. Morikawa hasn’t missed a cut in 21 events as a pro.

2020 Players Championship: Tournament head-to-head

Tommy Fleetwood (-112) vs. Dustin Johnson

Johnson has slipped to No. 9 in the Golfweek world rankings, while Fleetwood enters the week sixth following a third-place finish at The Honda Classic, though he missed the cut last week. No one in the field with a minimum of 10 rounds played at TPC Sawgrass has gained more strokes per round than Fleetwood’s 2.34, according to Data Golf.

Xander Schauffele vs. Webb Simpson (-112)

Simpson, the 2018 Players champion, gets paired up against Schauffele for the tournament head-to-head. Schauffele debuted with a T-2 in 2018, but he missed the cut in his follow-up attempt last year. Simpson hasn’t played since a disappointing T-61 finish at the WGC-Mexico Championship, but he already has a win in 2020 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open to cap a stretch of five straight top 10s.

How to bet Tiger Woods at the Presidents Cup: Analyzing prop bets around the Team USA captain

Previewing the 2019 Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne and looking at the best prop bets centered around Team USA captain Tiger Woods.

[jwplayer hrC67Fm5]

Tiger Woods is set to captain Team USA at the 2019 Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne Golf Club with the first round beginning Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 5:30 p.m. ET. Tiger selected himself as a wildcard pick Nov. 7. Below, we look at the best prop bets centered around Woods as he makes his ninth Presidents Cup appearance and first since 2013.

The No. 6 golfer in the Official World Golf Ranking will make a third Presidents Cup appearance at Royal Melbourne, having played in both 1998 and 2011.

Best Props on Tiger Woods for the Presidents Cup

Odds provided by BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Monday at 2:40 p.m. ET.

Top Combined Points Scorer (+1800)

Tiger picked up just two points in each of his two previous appearances at Royal Melbourne. He’s 2-0-0 in singles matches, 2-2-0 in foursomes and 0-4-0 in fourballs.

Two of Tiger’s teammates – Justin Thomas and Dustin Johnson – have a higher OWGR ranking, while the rest of his team also ranks inside the top 25. Eight golfers have better odds here. Shoot high with Thomas or Adam Scott of Australia for the International squad and PASS on Tiger.

Who will score the most points for the USA? (+1000)

Woods is tied with Rickie Fowler with the sixth-best odds to lead his team. Johnson, Matt Kuchar and Webb Simpson all have past experience at this venue, having played in 2011. Among them, Simpson fared the best, going 3-2-0 in his matches and picking up three points.

Tiger is coming off a victory at the Zozo Championship and a fourth-place finish at his own Hero World Challenge. I’d rather PASS on Tiger and place a larger wager on Thomas at +500.

Top USA Wildcard Points Scorer (+260)

Woods selected himself, Tony FinauPatrick Reed and Gary Woodland as his captain’s picks. Fowler was named as an injury replacement for world No. 1 Brooks Koepka.

This is my best spot to get action on Tiger at Royal Melbourne. A $10 bet for him to come away with the most points from a group of Reed, Fowler, Woodland and himself returns a profit of $26.

Of the four, he’s the only one with Presidents Cup experience at Royal Melbourne, and he has the top world ranking.
