Glenn Robinson III explains why he still uses a flip phone in 2020

Philadelphia 76ers forward Glenn Robinson III reveals that he uses a flip phone in 2020.

In the year of 2020, a majority of the world is connected through technology. Everybody is striving to get the latest version of the iPhone or some technological product in order to remain connected with friends or keep up with the news.

So, for somebody to still have a dinosaur product like a flip phone is something really surprising.

Philadelphia 76ers forward Glenn Robinson III hopped on The BroadCast podcast with Devon Givens to discuss real social issues going on in American at the moment that need ro be addressed. However, he did reveal that he, in fact, uses a flip phone. He explains why he still uses one in this age of advanced technology.

Robinson III:

KO, Kyle O’Quinn is a few feet over when he first seen me walk in the locker room and I had that he was completely lost. ‘Why do you have that? Who are you? What’s going on?’ Being 26 I’ve never been interested in material things you know materialistic My dad was in the league and I grew up around, so many nice things and was blessed enough to see that that who you were as a person is attracted me more who what you could do, how you could help people, those are the type of things that I’m interested in social I don’t have a personal social media anymore. Just because it’s not my thing but that’s why I run a foundation, just to help others that’s who I am.

Whatever phone Robinson III uses, as long as he produces on the floor when the Sixers need him to in Orlando, then he can use whatever phone he decides to roll with. [lawrence-related id=33206,33200,33191]

Stay or go? Predicting the 5 Philadelphia 76ers free agents for 2020

The Philadelphia 76ers have 5 free agents for 2020 and we are predicting whether they stay or go.

While there appears to be a real chance that the NBA will resume the 2019-20 season as commissioner Adam Silver has laid out the plan for what the league will do to resume play from their hiatus, it is still worth looking ahead to the offseason.

The Philadelphia 76ers won’t have too much money to play with this summer due to the massive contracts given out in the summer of 2019 so they will have decisions to make in the offseason of 2020–whenever that will be–to try and help the team.

According to Sportrac, the Sixers have five players heading into unrestricted free agency once the offseason does begin. We are going to look at each one and predict whether they stay or go.

March Madness: Glenn Robinson, Michigan fall to Louisville in Finals

Philadelphia 76ers forward Glenn Robinson III and the Michigan Wolverines fell to the Louisville Cardinals in the title game.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has taken over the sports world with the professional sports in suspension and the cancellation of the NCAA Tournament. So, Sixers Wire will bring back some of the best moments of March Madness for the current Philadelphia 76ers.

We head back to Michigan in 2013 and check in with Glenn Robinson III who has helped his Michigan team reach the title game against the Louisville Cardinals. Michigan has gotten through a lot of challenges to get to this point and they were primed to bring a title back to Ann Arbor, but Louisville had a little something up their sleeve in this one.

April 8, 2013

The Wolverines had used a balanced attack to get to this point and that was no different to start this game. Freshman Spike Albrecht hopped off the bench and he poured in 17 points in the first half as he nailed four straight 3-pointers off the bench. His efforts helped Michigan eke out to a 38-37 lead at the half, but Louisville had a response.

The Cardinals would answer back behind NBA bound guard Peyton Siva and Luke Hancock to take the lead. Hancock hopped off the bench and he poured in 22 points while going a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the arc. Michigan did not have an answer for him and therefore, they fell to Louisville 82-76. Red and white streamers flooded the court as Robinson III, Trey Burke, and the rest of the Wolverines slumped off the floor.

Burke led Michigan with 24 points, Albrecht had the 17, and Robinson III and Tim Hardaway Jr. had 12 points each. It was a sour ending to what was one of the best tournament runs in the history of the program considering what they had to go through to get there.

Burke told reporters afterward:

A lot of people didn’t expect us to get this far. A lot of people didn’t expect us to get past the second round. We fought. We fought up to this point, but Louisville was the better team today, and they’re deserving of the win.

Burke and Hardaway Jr. both would enter the NBA Draft and be first-round selections. Burke was selected ninth overall by the Utah Jazz while Hardaway Jr. went 24th to the New York Knicks. Burke would bounce around in his career and he last played for the Sixers before being waived in order to make room at the deadline for Alec Burks and Robinson III.

Robinson III would go on to play one more season at Michigan helping them reach the Elite 8 in 2014 before he entered the draft and was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He would also play for the Sixers in his rookie season.  [lawrence-related id=29053,29044,29037]

March Madness: Glenn Robinson III, Michigan beat Syracuse in Final Four

Philadelphia 76ers forward Glenn Robinson III led the Michigan Wolverines to the title game.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has taken over the sports world with the professional sports in suspension and the cancellation of the NCAA Tournament. So, Sixers Wire will bring back some of the best moments of March Madness for the current Philadelphia 76ers.

This edition heads back to Ann Arbor to take a look at the 2013 Michigan Wolverines and Glenn Robinson III as they head into the Final Four to take on the Syracuse Orange. Michigan was coming off some impressive wins over first, Kansas, and then, Florida, and they were ready for a big challenge from the Orange. The zone defense from Syracuse could potentially bother Michigan, but they were ready to roll in this one. [lawrence-related id=28773]

April 6, 2013

The Wolverines were playing in the Final Four for the first time since the Fab Five days in 1993 and their opponent in this one was no pushover. Led by Michael Carter-Williams, C.J. Fair, Brandon Triche, and Jerami Grant, the Orange had a lot of length in order to run their vaunted zone which bothered Michigan initially.

The Wolverines did not back down as they ground their way to a lead thanks to the offense from Tim Hardaway Jr., Robinson III, and Mitch McGary. Michigan only shot 8-for-24 from deep, but they were patient on offense and they were able to squeak out a 61-56 win and advance to their first title game since 1989.

Hardaway Jr. led Michigan with 13 points, McGary had 10 points and 12 rebounds with six assists, and Robinson III had 10 points and six boards. The team needed those performances as Trey Burke struggled scoring seven points on 1-for-8 shooting.

Afterward, coach John Beilein told reporters:

We’ve been a team all year. It was great.

The Wolverines are now heading to the national title game to take on the Louisville Cardinals who are having a lot of success this season. [lawrence-related id=28977,28970,28952]

March Madness: Josh Richardson, Tennessee fall to Glenn Robinson III

We look back at March Madness for Philadelphia 76ers guard Josh Richardson with the Tennessee Volunteers.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has taken over the sports world with the professional sports in suspension and the cancellation of the NCAA Tournament. So, Sixers Wire will bring back some of the best moments of March Madness for the current Philadelphia 76ers.

This edition turns back to Josh Richardson’s run with the Tennessee Volunteers where he ran into Glenn Robinson III’s Michigan Wolverines in the Sweet 16 in 2014. Tennessee had to battle from the First Four to get here so this has already been an impressive run, but the Volunteers had to dig deep against a talented and proven Michigan team.

March 28, 2014

Tennessee had come in after knocking off Mercer in the Round of 32 and they were feeling very confident of themselves and for good reason. They were facing off against a very good Michigan team and they gave them everything they had.

The game was close all throughout until Robinson III had a layup and he then found Spike Albrecht for a layup to give Michigan a 60-45 lead with 10:57 to go. Tennessee then dug deep and rallied. Richardson started the rally with a layup and he and Jordan McRae brought Tennessee to within 72-71 with 13 seconds left. However, a questionable offensive foul called on Jarnell Stokes late and then a Nik Stauskas free-throw sealed a 73-71 win for the Wolverines.

McRae led Tennessee with 24 points and six rebounds and Richardson had 19 points for the Volunteers and Robinson III had 14 points for Michigan.

McRae was not happy with the offensive foul call as he told reporters afterward:

With the magnitude of this game, I don’t think you could call a charge at that point.

Tennessee’s run was terrific, but it just was not enough. Richardson and McRae would head to the NBA after the season while Robinson III and the Wolverines fell to Kentucky in the Elite 8 before also leaving for the NBA. [lawrence-related id=28914,28904,28886]

Glenn Robinson III says he was gaining comfort with Sixers, future uncertain

Philadelphia 76ers forward Glenn Robinson III discusses his future with the Sixers and the comfort he was beginning to gain with the team.

The unfortunate suspension of the NBA season due to the rapid spread of coronavirus has a lot of people stuck in an uncertain time. For some, it means not knowing when you’ll be back to work and for people entering free agency such as Philadelphia 76ers forward Glenn Robinson III, it means losing out on an opportunity to show your worth.

Robinson III was averaging a career-high 12.9 points with the Golden State Warriors while shooting 40% from deep before being sent to the Sixers at the deadline and it has been a little up and down for him. He has had his minutes drop from 31 in Golden State to just 18 in Philadelphia and it has affected his play as he is shooting just 28.6% from deep for the Sixers.

He joined Sixers Wire’s The Bell Ringer Podcast on Friday to discuss his beginning comfort with the Sixers and how the suspension will affect his free agency.

“I think that my last couple of games with the Sixers went pretty well in terms of just myself adjusting to the team,” he said. “I think that along with just playing with Golden State most of the year, I think up to this point, I’ve tried to prove myself and now if the season does continue, it’s about doing the same things and try to remain as consistent as possible and just give myself the best chance I can in this upcoming free agency.”

In the final four games for Philadelphia leading into the suspension, Robinson III averaged 11.8 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting a red hot 54.5% from deep. Those types of performances suggest that he was beginning to turn things around.

Whenever the season does resume, he will have an opportunity to help the Sixers go deep into the playoffs. The team needs a 3-and-D presence on the roster and while Matisse Thybulle will fill that role soon enough, a guy like Robinson III will be able to help right away. Glenn Robinson III calls it ‘crazy’ the NCAA Tournament was canceled

The 76ers forward says it is often a dream for kids to play in the NCAA Tournament each March.

[jwplayer kSHbmusT]

Sporting events around the United States were shut down last month as the coronavirus quickly began to spread across the country and threaten the health and safety of the public.

The NCAA Tournament was among the events canceled when it was decided on March 12 the games would not be played. The unprecedented circumstance created a petition from several coaches around the sport to allow seniors of winter sports an additional year of eligibility in order to have the opportunity to play in the tournament again.

The NCAA ultimately decided against that proposal but allowed student-athletes of spring sports to have an additional year since most activities had just started when the season was canceled. The decision to cancel the NCAA Tournament sent shockwaves across the sport but it was viewed as the right move since health officials have warned against large public gatherings.

Philadelphia 76ers forward Glen Robinson III is among those that were shocked by the decision to cancel the NCAA Tournament. Of course, Robinson played two years at Michigan and helped lead the Wolverines to the national championship game in 2013.

Robinson offered his take on the cancellation of the tournament on the latest episode of “The Bell Ringer Podcast” with Ky Carlin and Cameron Fields of Sixers Wire.

I think it’s crazy what happened with the tournament this year being canceled. I feel like it’s every kid’s dream to go to college and play in the tournament and be on that ‘One Shining Moment’ song at the end of the year.

It’s just crazy that this year, it’ll probably just say ‘Coronavirus 2020’ with an asterisk. It’s crazy to look at it in the history books that it’s not going to happen. It’s crazy to me. I’ve talked to a couple guys and we don’t know what is going to happen with the league but it’ll be the same thing in the history books.

Allowing those players an extra year of eligibility likely would have been difficult to do since most had already played in most of the season but it is clear those athletes will miss out on the chance of a lifetime.

March Madness: Glenn Robinson III, Nik Stauskas get to the Final Four

Philadelphia 76ers forward Glenn Robinson III helped the Michigan Wolverines get to the Final Four.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has taken over the sports world with the professional sports in suspension and the cancellation of the NCAA Tournament. So, Sixers Wire will bring back some of the best moments of March Madness for the current Philadelphia 76ers.

Tuesday’s edition brings us back to Glenn Robinson III and the Michigan Wolverines. After a classic win over the Kansas Jayhawks in the Sweet 16, the Wolverines turned their attention to the Florida Gators. Some questioned whether Michigan would be able to keep things going after the emotional win over the Jayhawks, but the Wolverines soon put those concerns to bed.

March 31, 2013

Michigan jumped out to a 13-0 lead and they never looked back. Former Sixer Nik Stauskas, who was 2-for-12 from deep in the first three games of the tournament, came out on fire and started drilling 3-pointers. His efforts gave Michigan a 47-32 halftime lead and they never looked back as Florida could never get close.

Stauskas led the Wolverines with 22 points and he was a perfect 6-for-6 from deep while another former Sixer, Trey Burke, had 15 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists with Robinson III chipping in six points and two rebounds in a 79-59 win. With the way Stauskas was shooting, there wasn’t a lot that the Wolverines needed from others.

Michigan will now move on to the Final Four for the first time since 1983 and Burke believes they’re not done yet as he told reporters:

I said it in the summer and the coaches kind of got on me saying we can be national championship contenders. But that was coming from my heart. I knew once we put the talent with the toughness and execution, then I knew this team could be special. We’re coming together at the right time.

The Wolverines will now have to move on and face another challenge in the form of Michael Carter-Williams and the Syracuse Orange. [lawrence-related id=28596,28588,28579]
