Why Georgia Tech Will Win

Georgia Tech is playing … well?

It won two of its last three games, backup QB Zach Gibson was solid in the 21-17 shocker over North Carolina, and the defense has stepped in a huge way after getting ripped up by Florida State in late October.

No, it doesn’t have the firepower to keep up with Georgia, and the inability to keep the chains moving on third downs could be a killer, but the pass rush is fine, the team is great in turnover margin and keeping the penalties to a minimum, and …

Why Georgia Will Win

Georgia Tech doesn’t have the offense to rally back.

Georgia has shown the ability to hit on the big plays down the field and crank up the scoring drives in a flash, but it should be the running game that takes over.

Miami ran for over 200 yards on the Yellow Jacket D and won easily. Florida State ran for 246 yards and won in a blowout. Overall, Georgia Tech is 0-4 when allowing over 200 rushing yards and 1-5 when giving up 150 or more – the North Carolina win last week was the outlier.

Tennessee and Oregon were the only two teams other than Samford – Georgia didn’t exactly go full force in that – to keep the Dawgs to under 150. The ground game should average over five yards per carry, the defense will care in the rivalry game – it sure did in the 45-0 win last year – and …

What’s Going To Happen

Get in, get this over with, and move on to the SEC Championship.

Georgia has won four straight in the series in blowout fashion, and it’ll roll here without too much of a problem.

The Georgia Tech defense will be just good enough to keep this from going crazy in the second half, but the damage will be done early.

Georgia vs Georgia Tech Game Preview

Why Georgia Will Win

Just get through the game as healthy as possible.

Style points don’t matter. All Georgia has to do is get through this with a W, and it’s almost certainly in the College Football Playoff no matter what happens against Alabama in the SEC Championship.

Georgia Tech was in the midst of a promising season, but five straight losses ended all of that with a 55-0 loss to Notre Dame the bottoming out moment.

The Yellow Jackets have been okay offensively, but the defense has crashed. It’s not coming up with enough big plays in the secondary and the run defense has been plowed over way too much

They’re giving up over 200 rushing yards in three of the last five games and getting bombed on for an average of over 300 passing yards a game over the last eight.

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 13

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

Georgia isn’t exactly going to be fully focused.

It has the one big thing to deal with next week, and yeah, it does want to just get through this and move on, rivalry game or not.

Georgia Tech might be having huge issues defensively, and that means it has to get a bit funky on offense. There’s been a decent balance, the passing game has had its moments, but it’s going to take a Georgia meltdown.

The Bulldogs turned it over three times against Charleston Southern, gave it up three times against Florida and South Carolina, and …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 12

What’s Going To Happen

Yeah, Georgia has had a few turnover problems, and it ended up winning those games in brutal blowouts anyway.

Again, the Bulldogs are going to want to put this away as soon as possible and move on. But yeah, it does matter for Georgia and the base to blast away on Georgia Tech.

The Yellow Jackets will get a few scores – this won’t be quite as ugly as the Notre Dame blasting of last week – but Georgia will get into a groove after the first few drives and will dominate the last 40 minutes.

Why Georgia Will Win

Georgia Tech can hit the downfield throw when it takes its shots, but in bulk yards, it has the ACC’s worst passing game, averaging just 143 yards per game while completing 48% of its throws.

The Yellow Jackets have to run to win, but …

The Georgia run defense is awesome.

No. 4 in the latest round of College Football Playoff rankings, the Bulldogs can go to the CFP with a win over LSU in the SEC Championship next week, but the CFP is out of the equation if the gack against the Yellow Jackets.

That’s where the run D takes over.

Georgia has allowed a grand total of one touchdown run all year – two weeks ago against Auburn – and has given up more than 100 yards just three times. Last week against Texas A&M, the Dawgs stuffed the Aggie ground game for -2 yards.

“Go to the bank!” Today’s top pick of the day just released

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

Georgia is going to have to run to win, too.

The Georgia Tech run defense isn’t anything special, the overall D is just decent enough to hold up against the mediocre offenses, and that’s been Georgia.

The Bulldogs have the offensive line to blast away, but the offense hasn’t scored more than 27 points over the last six games, and that’s partly because the passing game isn’t working. As good as Jake Fromm is, the Bulldogs haven’t completed more than 48% of their passes over the last three games.

Georgia Tech might not have a pass rush, and the secondary gives up yards, but the defense isn’t getting gouged that badly.

Only North Carolina has thrown for more than 260 yards on this group. It can be burned from time to time, but hasn’t allowed multiple touchdown passes in any of its last four games.

What’s Going To Happen

The Bulldogs aren’t going to blow it now.

The offense will be sharp and efficient, the defense will dominate from the start, and even though it won’t be a wipeout in the first half, Georgia will have control at halftime.

The Yellow Jackets will manage two decent scoring drives, but they won’t be nearly enough to offset the 250 rushing yards the Yellow Jackets will give up.
