Twitter reacts: Georgia DL Bear Alexander commits to USC

How did CFB Twitter react after UGA’s Bear Alexander transferred to USC?

Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Bear Alexander is intending to transfer to the USC Trojans. Alexander’s departure is a blow to defensive line depth for Georgia football.

As a true freshman, Bear Alexander recorded nine total tackles and two sacks. Alexander’s strong performance in the national championship game against TCU gave fans and coaches a look at his potential.

The former four-star recruit should have a larger role with the Trojans. Alexander is expected to make a difference for USC’s troublesome defense. Last season, the Trojans finished No. 94 in scoring defense; they allowed an average of 29.2 points per game. Alexander leaves Georgia, which had the nation’s fifth-ranked scoring defense. In 2022, the Bulldogs allowed an average of 14.3 points per game.

For perspective, Georgia has allowed more than 29 points just three times over the past two seasons. The Bulldogs have five shutouts over the same period of time.

Here’s how college football Twitter reacted at Bear Alexander transferred from Georgia to USC:

Who has the top 10 football recruiting classes of 2024?

Florida is the only team with a top 10 recruiting ranking that has a higher average commitment rating than the Georgia Bulldogs

It is still early in the process for the class of 2024 recruiting cycle. However, several college football programs are laying down excellent foundations for their signing classes.

The Ohio State Buckeyes recently surpassed the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2024 recruiting rankings. Georgia had held the recruiting crown for a while with the class of 2024. Both the Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines are very hot on the recruiting trail.

The Alabama Crimson Tide usually start slowly in the recruiting process. However, Nick Saban and company typically finish with a top recruiting class. True to form, the Crimson Tide have the nation’s No. 19 recruiting class, per 247Sports. Notably, Alabama has more commitments from five-star recruits than any of other program.

Here’s where the college football recruiting rankings for the 2024 cycle stand:

Georgia football offers 4-star DL Artavius Jones

If you like watching 6-foot-3, 280-pound tight ends taking jet sweeps, then you need to check out Jones’ highlights.

The Georgia Bulldogs have extended a scholarship to another talented 2024 recruit, defensive lineman Artavius Jones. Jones plays high school football for Blountstown High School in Blountstown, Florida. Blountstown is located west of Tallahassee, Florida.

The 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive lineman is ranked as the No. 174 player in the class of 2024. Jones is the No. 20 defensive line recruit and the No. 25 player in Florida, per 247Sports.

The big defensive lineman also participates in track and field and basketball. Jones has recent scholarship offers from Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Illinois and Florida State.

The versatile athlete plays offensive line, defensive line and tight end. He overwhelms his competition in high school. As an offensive lineman, he frequently takes defenders on a ride across the field and into the turf.

Jones has some very entertaining highlights on Hudl. If you like watching 6-foot-3, 280-pound tight ends taking jet sweeps, then you need to check out Jones’ highlights.

Georgia defensive line coach Tray Scott is a key recruiter for Jones. The four-star defensive lineman announced his scholarship offer from Georgia football via Twitter:

Georgia DL Bear Alexander visiting Pac-12 school

Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Bear Alexander entered the transfer portal and is now visiting USC.

Georgia defensive lineman Bear Alexander is visiting the USC Trojans from April 21-23. Alexander entered the NCAA transfer portal during the spring transfer window and did not play in Georgia’s spring game.

Bear Alexander is a former four-star recruit. He was ranked as the No. 50 prospect in the class of 2022. Alexander played high school football in Texas prior to spending his final high school season at IMG Academy in Florida.

Now, he is one of the top players in the NCAA transfer portal. Alexander could help make a difference for USC’s leaky defense. The Trojans finished No. 94 in scoring defense; they allowed an average of 29.2 points per game. For perspective, Georgia has allowed more than 29 points just three times over the past two seasons. The Bulldogs have five shutouts over the same period of time.

Alexander recorded nine total tackles as a freshman in 2022. He added two sacks. Alexander had a particularly strong performance in the national championship game against TCU.

If Alexander transfers, it would be a tough loss for Georgia’s defensive line. The Bulldogs were counting on Alexander having a larger role in 2023. However, Georgia still has a great deal of talent along its defensive front.

Another school to watch in Alexander’s recruitment is the Texas Longhorns. On3 reported Alexander’s visit with USC.

Georgia football OL enters transfer portal

Georgia football offensive guard Griffin Scroggs is hitting the transfer portal

The Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Griffin Scroggs has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Scroggs joins several other Dawgs in the portal.

Griffin Scroggs, who played guard for Grayson High School, was rated as a three-star recruit in the class of 2022. Scroggs never saw much playing time during his freshman season in Athens. He will have four years of eligibility remaining.

Scroggs was committed to Georgia Tech during his recruitment, so there’s a chance he transfers to Georgia’s top in-state rival.

Right now, Georgia defensive tackle Bear Alexander, linebacker Rian Davis, Shone Washington, and wide receiver Dominick Blaylock are all in the transfer portal.

Kirby Smart and Georgia brought in just three transfers this offseason (Smoke Bouie, Dominic Lovett, and Rara Thomas). The Bulldogs have 14 players that have transferred or are in the portal. However, Georgia still faces challenges related to being over the scholarship limit.

Georgia has the nation’s No. 55 transfer class. The Bulldogs typically prefer to bring in talented recruits as opposed to a bunch of transfers. Georgia signed the nation’s No. 2 class of 2023.
