Instant analysis of Dolphins drafting LB Channing Tindall at No. 102

He may be able to come in and be an impact player in his rookie season.

On Friday night the Miami Dolphins made their first pick of the 2022 NFL draft by selecting Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Channing Tindall at pick No. 102.

Tindall was a four-year contributor on Kirby Smart’s defense, totaling 108 tackles, 12 sacks and one forced fumble in 38 games played. However, he wasn’t getting starter opportunities because Quay Walker and Nakobe Dean, who were both projected to be top linebackers in this draft, were ahead of him on the depth chart.

His ability to play both inside and outside linebacker probably intrigued the Dolphins enough into meeting with him pre-draft, and that meeting obviously went well.

Miami did a solid job retaining their defensive talent this offseason, especially at linebacker. Elandon Roberts, Brennan Scarlett, Duke Riley and Sam Eguavoen were all set to be free agents, and they’ve all been re-signed for the 2022 season.

This will give Tindall the chance to sit back and learn in his rookie year without putting too much pressure on him, but the guys ahead of him aren’t so great that he doesn’t have a chance to overtake them at some point this year.

Ideally, Tindall learns from veterans like Roberts and Jerome Baker for a year, while contributing on special teams, and he progresses enough that he’s ready to take over one of the linebacker’s roles heading into 2023.

The Miami Dolphins and their fans waited for nearly two full nights before they made their first selection but that moment finally came.

With the 102nd pick in the 2022 NFL draft, the Dolphins selected Georgia linebacker Channing Tindall. Tindall previously visited with the Dolphins during the pre-draft process and they must’ve liked him.

During his four-year career with the Bulldogs, he recorded 108 total tackles (16 for a loss), 12 sacks and one forced fumble. The numbers might not jump off the page, but he could make an impact for this defense.

Now, fans will have to wait until Saturday for the team’s next pick, as Miami is scheduled to select a player at No. 125.

After dropping a midweek matchup to New Orleans on Tuesday night, LSU rebounded with a 6-2 win over the Georgia Bulldogs on Friday. After taking Game 1 against the No. 11 Bulldogs, the Tigers will look to win the series at home on Saturday at Alex Box Stadium.

It was once again “Mike Day” for the Tigers as [autotag]Ma’Khail Hilliard[/autotag] took the mound and pitched six innings allowing two runs on eight hits, three walks, and seven strikeouts.

[autotag]Tyler McManus[/autotag] got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning with a two-run blast to left-center field to score [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] and make it 2-0.

Georgia got those runs right back in the top of the third with a two-run homer of its own to tie the game 2-2. Packers bolster defensive front seven with pair of first-round Bulldogs

Brennen Rupp recaps the Packers’ first-round selections of Georgia LB Quay Walker and DL Devonte Wyatt.

The Georgia Bulldogs had one of the best defensive units in college football history this past season. A defense that will likely have seven defensive players selected in the Top 100.Ā

The Green Bay Packers strengthened their front seven in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft by selecting a pair of players from that historic defense. A defense that gave up less than 10 points a game and allowed just 2.61 yards per rush attempt.

Brian Gutekunst selected linebacker Quay Walker with the 22nd overall pick and defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt with the 28th overall pick.Ā

ā€œAdding two players of this kind of talent to your front seven,ā€ Gutekunst said. ā€œWeā€™re fired up about that.ā€

Walker arrived on campus as a four-star recruit. During his first year on campus, Walker earned the teamā€™s Special Teams Newcomer of the Year award.

This past season marked Walkerā€™s first year as a starter and he responded by recording 65 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and three pass deflections.

Walker has a unique blend of quickness and size. Heā€™s built like an old-school linebacker (6-4, 245 pounds), but moves like a modern-day linebacker.

ā€œWe identified him really early in the process,ā€ Gutekunst said. ā€œWe thought heā€™d be an excellent fitā€¦Itā€™s been a while since weā€™ve been able to stay in certain packages with two inside backers that can handle everythingā€¦This move gives us a ton of flexibility.ā€

The Georgia linebacker has the sideline-to-sideline quickness to shut down perimeter plays. Heā€™s quick to read and react, flowing fast to shut down running angles.Ā

Walker is light on his feet. Heā€™s a modern-day three-down linebacker. Heā€™s a fluid athlete that has the lateral agility and quickness to match up with running backs and tight ends in coverage.Ā

A year ago, Krys Barnes played nearly 50 percent of the defensive snaps. With Walkerā€™s skillset, Joe Barry will likely give that bite of the apple and even more to the Georgia linebacker.

ā€œHe can do a lot of things,ā€ Gutekunst said. ā€œHe has some similarities to Dre (Deā€™Vondre Campbell). Having two interchangeable pieces there gives our defense so much flexibilityā€¦That was certainly attractive.ā€

Wyatt is a twitched-up big man. Men of his size (6-2, 304) shouldnā€™t be able to move the way that he does. There is a reason why the Georgia defensive tackle was No. 5 on Bruce Feldmanā€™s Freaks list for 2021.

ā€œHeā€™s such a disruptor along the line of scrimmage,ā€ Gutekunst said. ā€œHe can play the one, he can play the three. Heā€™s a dynamic pass-rusher. His ability to scrape and get to the ball in the run gameā€¦We didn’tā€™ expect him to be there.ā€

Wyatt gets up field quickly with an explosive first step. Heā€™s a backfield disrupter that finished his career with 12 career tackles for loss.

With his size and strength, Wyatt is able to clog up running lanes. He has a flexible lower body and stays balanced through gaps.

For a man his size he has good lateral quickness to make plays up and down the line of scrimmage. Wyatt was a key cog in the Bulldog defense giving up less than three yards per carry.

The Packers have a strong secondary with Jaire Alexander, Erick Stokes, Rasul Douglas, Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage.Ā

With Rashan Gary and Preston Smith they have a dynamic pass-rushing duo. They have an all-pro linebacker in Deā€™Vondre Campbell. Kenny Clark, Dean Lowry and Jarran Reed form a solid trio of defensive lineman.

By adding Walker, the Packers improved arguably their biggest weakness on the defensive side of the ball (No. 2 linebacker spot).

With the addition of Wyatt, the Packers are getting a twitched up defensive lineman that will help shore up their run defense, while also bolstering their interior pass rush.

ā€œIā€™m really excited about that front seven,ā€ Gutekunst said. ā€œJust the speed that we have nowā€¦Our ability to cover ground. Our ability to take away passing lanesā€¦I like us on paper right now.ā€

Defense wins championships and the Packers having the makings of a championship caliber defense.

SEC, ‘Money 5ā€™ dominate: 5 Takeaways from the first round of the 2022 NFL draft

Though they didn’t have a first-round selection this year, the Oklahoma Sooners should still have a big weekend at the 2022 NFL draft.

The first round of the 2022 NFL draft has come and gone. While the Oklahoma Sooners’ draft prospects didn’t hear their name called, a trade put former OU players in the spotlight when Marquise Brown was sent to the Arizona Cardinals, with whom he will reunite with Kyler Murray.

Itā€™s an event that has as much build up as the start of the regular season. The NFL draft always has some surprises, but a few things have become regular occurrences over the last decade.

Here are a few takeaways from Day 1 of the 2022 NFL draft.

The Philadelphia Eagles have selected former Georgia All-American defensive tackle Jordan Davis with the 13th pick of the 2022 NFL draft.

At 6-foot-6, 340 pounds, Davis was one of the most intriguing players in this draft, and he rose up some draft boards after dominating the 2022 NFL combine with speed and athleticism.

Even with Fletcher Cox and Javon Hargrave entrenched as starters, Philadelphia drafted Davis to become an interior run stuffer with the strength to dominate one-on-one matchups and occupy double-teams at an elite rate.

2022 NFL Draft: Jags select Georgia DL Travon Walker with No. 1 overall selection

The pick is in and the Jacksonville Jaguars have taken Travon Walker with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

[mm-video type=video id=01g1sb726vqasc490q57 playlist_id=01eqbx72kbdnfb4t57 player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01g1sb726vqasc490q57/01g1sb726vqasc490q57-512a8abc3c9e9fc665f15cfe0dd597c6.jpg]

The wait is over and the Jacksonville Jaguars have turned in the card for the No. 1 pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. The team ended up going with Georgia defensive lineman Travon Walker, who was believed to be the top option in the eyes of general manager Trent Baalke.

Many national analysts believed the best player in the draft was Michigan pass-rusher Aidan Hutchinson, but despite that, the Jags went with a player who is thought to have more upside. The Jags’ decision to take Walker occurred as he’s coming off a 2021 season where he helped the Georgia Bulldogs win the national championship over Alabama.

Last season, Walker accumulated 37 total tackles (18 of which were solo). He also had two pass deflections and six sacks. Overall, he finished his junior season with the Bulldogs with 61 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and 9.5 sacks.

After earning a national championship title, Walker went on to impress at the 2022 Scouting Combine. At 272 pounds, he ran a 4.51 in the 40-yard dash and registered a 123ā€³ broad jump figure. With such numbers, it appears Baalke sees Walker as an Aldon Smith-like athlete, who was one of his draft selections in San Francisco.

On film, Walker’s explosion appears elite, which explains his tremendous 40-time. At 6-foot-5, he will bring a long-framed athlete with 35.5-inch arms into the mix for the Jags’ defense. That’s certainly something they could use after the unit ranked 20th last season.

Walker will undoubtedly have his doubters heading forward because he wasn’t viewed as the best player in the draft. However, if he can get to the quarterback as Smith did for Baalke in San Francisco, those critics would be quickly silenced.

LB Channing Tindall is the forgotten Georgia defender but could be fit for Cowboys

The Cowboys brought back Leighton Vander Esch on a one-year deal. Could Tindall be his eventual successor? Tyler Browning (@DiabeticTyler) dives into the tape of yet another Georgia linebacker.

The reigning college football champions, are a draft factory right now. Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Channing Tindall is a legit prospect and the fact he isn’t one of their top-5 prospects is more a statement about them than him. Tindall was quite decorated coming out of high school as he ranked as the No. 5 OLB nationally, No. 103 overall prospect nationally and the No. 3 prospect in South Carolina. He was a consensus four-star prospect, and earned his way to the the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.Ā  At Georgia he moved to inside linebacker and it all came together and his last season of play.

In 2018 to 2020 he saw just 19 total solo tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. In 2021 he saw a jump in number to 35 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks. So does his increase in production project favorably on his pro potential? Does he fit with the Cowboys? Let’s dive into his film to find out
