An update on Gabe Vincent’s knee ailment

How much closer is Lakers guard Gabe Vincent to returning to game action after missing the team’s last 17 games?

The Los Angeles Lakers have been dealing with one minor or moderate injury after another dating to the exhibition season. While these injuries haven’t been debilitating, they have limited their progress in building chemistry and reaching their potential.

On Saturday, they took a major step toward becoming whole. Cam Reddish returned after missing four of their last five games with groin soreness, while forward Jarred Vanderbilt played for the first time since the preseason after going through heel bursitis. In addition, Rui Hachimura was cleared to play after being out for four games with a nasal fracture, although he didn’t get on the court.

The one member of the team who is unable to play is guard Gabe Vincent, who has had a knee ailment since the opening days of the regular season. Some have wondered if the ailment might be serious, but according to head coach Darvin Ham, he is progressing.

Via Lakers Nation:

“He’s progressing along. Not as of yet, but he’s progressing really, really good,” Ham said of Vincent’s status and whether he has been re-evaluated.

“He’s been running on an [anti-gravity treadmill]. He’s doing some just conditioning, obviously in that regard, some normal weight-lifting stuff, shooting shots. But that’s it.”

In Vincent’s four contests this season, he has shown an ability to defend at a relatively high level while recovering loose balls and forcing steals and deflections. That defensive activity and effectiveness will help a Lakers team that has already made strides on that end of the floor over the last three weeks.

Gabe Vincent to be reevaluated in two weeks

Lakers guard Gabe Vincent continues to struggle to overcome the knee ailment that has sidelined him for over two weeks.

The Los Angeles Lakers hold a mediocre 6-6 record about three weeks into the 2023-24 season. While energy has been an issue at times, another factor has been injuries.

Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, Rui Hachimura, Jaxson Hayes, Anthony Davis and LeBron James have all missed time due to various ailments. The absences of Vanderbilt and Vincent have particularly stood out, not just because of their duration, but also because of how they have affected the team.

Vanderbilt and Vincent are two of L.A.’s best defenders. Both are gritty players who will make hustle plays to help their team win games.

While Vanderbilt may be on the mend, Vincent will not be returning for a while due to a knee ailment.

Vincent has been out since the second week of the season. His absence has affected head coach Darvin Ham’s rotations, and to a certain extent, it may have influenced his decision to move Austin Reaves to the bench while promoting Cam Reddish to the starting lineup.

Lakers will be without at least three rotation players versus the Magic

The Lakers will be shorthanded when they start a four-game road trip on Saturday.

The Los Angeles Lakers, coming off a thrilling overtime win on Wednesday over the Los Angeles Clippers, will start a four-game road trip on Saturday.

That trip begins with a contest against the Orlando Magic, a team they defeated on Monday, albeit in ugly fashion.

Los Angeles hasn’t been at full strength this season. Forward and defensive ace Jarred Vanderbilt has been out due to left heel bursitis. Rui Hachimura has been out for the last two games, while Gabe Vincent and Taurean Prince missed Wednesday’s game.

Vanderbilt, Hachimura and Vincent will be out on Saturday, and Prince is listed as questionable.

The injuries have left the Lakers short-handed at the wing position and in the backcourt. The fact rookie guard Jalen Hood-Schifino has also been out lately with a right patella contusion has made that lack of depth even more painful.

Vincent is expected to miss at least two weeks, while Vanderbilt will be re-evaluated in about a week.

Gabe Vincent will miss at least two weeks with knee ailment

The Lakers will be shorthanded in the backcourt for at least the next two weeks, as Gabe Vincent is suffering from a knee ailment.

One of the big additions the Los Angeles Lakers made this offseason was Gabe Vincent, a young and gritty guard who made his name with the Miami Heat last season. He was a key part of the Heat’s unexpected run to the NBA Finals thanks to his aggressive defense, secondary ball-handling and timely 3-point shooting.

He has shown signs this season of becoming a glue guy for Los Angeles. Head coach Darvin Ham has often gone with him in the fourth quarter of games, and his defense has helped the team get off to a decent start.

However, Vincent missed the Lakers’ last game with a knee ailment. That ailment will cause him to miss at least the next two weeks.

Without him, the Lakers will likely call upon second-year man Max Christie, as they did on Wednesday in their overtime win over the Clippers.

Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent will sit out Wednesday’s Lakers vs. Clippers game

The Lakers will be a bit shorthanded again on Wednesday when they play the Clippers.

The Los Angeles Lakers have an early showdown on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Clippers, a team they have had massive trouble defeating for the past decade or so.

Since the 2012-13 season, they have gone 7-36 versus the Clippers, which has made Clippers fans believe their team has taken over bragging rights in the Southland.

Unfortunately, the Purple and Gold, who are 2-2 on the season and are coming off a win on Monday over the Orlando Magic, will have to get it done while short-handed. They will be without the services of reserve forward Rui Hachimura, who will sit out his second straight game with a left eye contusion. He has been placed into concussion protocol, which is certainly concerning.

In addition, guard Gabe Vincent is out with left knee soreness.

After Wednesday’s game, the Lakers will have two full days off before they start a four-game road trip on Saturday against the Magic.

Gabe Vincent has been cleared to play on opening night

After missing the Lakers’ last three preseason games, guard Gabe Vincent should be ready to play on opening night on Tuesday.

The Los Angeles Lakers will begin their 2023-24 regular season schedule on Tuesday night on the road versus the Denver Nuggets. This game will give them an opportunity to gain a measure of revenge against the team that swept them in the Western Conference finals not too long ago.

Although no one on the Lakers suffered any significant injuries during the preseason, a few of their players have been banged up. In particular, guard Gabe Vincent, who started the preseason strong, missed the team’s last three games due to back tightness.

Fortunately, Vincent has been cleared to play versus Denver on Thursday. Meanwhile, forward Jarred Vanderbilt, who was scheduled to be re-evaluated on Friday, is day-to-day, and rookie guard Jalen Hood-Schifino is still under evaluation (h/t Lakers Daily).

In his last game, which was on Wednesday, Oct. 11 versus the Sacramento Kings, Vincent scored 18 points on 7-of-12 field-goal shooting and 4-of-8 from 3-point range. His defense, as well as his ability to hit outside shots and occasionally handle the ball, will be key to the Lakers’ chances of winning the NBA championship this season.

Update on status of Lakers guards Gabe Vincent and Jalen Hood-Schifino

Will Gabe Vincent or Jalen Hood-Schifino be able to play in the Lakers’ final preseason game of 2023?

The start of the 2023-24 regular season is just a week away, and teams are ramping up their preparation and intensity for the games that will actually count.

While the Los Angeles Lakers are 2-3 in the preseason, they have looked sharp when their regulars have been on the floor together. Guard Gabe Vincent, who was signed as a free agent in July, is one player who has done well, especially in terms of his outside shooting.

Meanwhile, rookie guard Jalen Hood-Schifino has struggled offensively, although he has shown promise as a playmaker.

Vincent has missed the Lakers’ last two games with back tightness while Hood-Schifino sat out their last contest on Sunday with a knee ailment. Both are reportedly day-to-day.

Meanwhile, forward Jarred Vanderbilt, who only played in L.A.’s preseason opener, will still be re-evaluated for a heel problem on Friday.

The Lakers will close their exhibition schedule on Thursday against the Phoenix Suns before they open their regular-season schedule on Oct. 24 at the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets.

LeBron James, Austin Reaves and three others to sit versus Bucks

The Lakers will be shorthanded when they take on Damian Lillard, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks on Sunday.

Damian Lillard will suit up for the Milwaukee Bucks for the first time on Sunday, and he will do so against the Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena. He was traded to the Bucks just over two weeks ago, and he will give them a gigantic shot in the arm.

Milwaukee was being picked by some to reach the NBA Finals last season. Instead, it lost in the first round of the playoffs in five games to the underdog Miami Heat, and it should be supremely motivated this season.

For their contest against the Bucks, the Lakers will be short-handed. LeBron James, Austin Reaves, Gabe Vincent, Jarred Vanderbilt and Jalen Hood-Schifino will sit out.

While James and Reaves are merely resting, Vincent has back tightness and will miss his second straight game. Vanderbilt continues to deal with a heel issue, and Hood-Schifino has a knee ailment.

Meanwhile, Khris Middleton will not play for the Bucks.

The Lakers’ sixth and final preseason game will be on Thursday against the Phoenix Suns before they prepare for their season opener in the Mile High City on Oct. 24 versus the defending world champion Denver Nuggets.

Gabe Vincent and Cam Reddish will miss Friday’s Lakers vs. Warriors game

The Lakers will be a bit shorthanded for their fourth preseason game of 2023 on Friday against the Warriors.

The Los Angeles Lakers will take the court at Crypto.com Arena for the first time since they were swept in last season’s Western Conference finals when they face the Golden State Warriors on Friday evening.

It will be their fourth preseason contest of the new year and their second against the Warriors in less than a week. On Saturday, L.A. lost its exhibition opener to the Warriors in San Francisco, 125-108, as LeBron James and Austin Reaves were held out due to rest.

On Friday, the Lakers will again be shorthanded. Forward Jarred Vanderbilt will sit due to a heel ailment. In addition, guard Gabe Vincent and wing Cam Reddish will not play because of back tightness and an ankle injury, respectively.

Vincent has shot very well so far in the exhibition season, while Reddish tweaked his ankle on Saturday at Golden State.

On the other hand, James will play versus the Warriors after missing two of the Lakers’ first three exhibition contests.

The Lakers’ final two preseason games will be on Sunday against the Milwaukee Bucks and on Thursday versus the Pheonix Suns.

D’Angelo Russell talks about playing with ‘very high IQ’ Gabe Vincent

Lakers starting point guard D’Angelo Russell enjoys playing with newcomer Gabe Vincent and other guards who can make plays for others.

The Los Angeles Lakers have plenty of threats on their roster this season, and they also have interchangeable parts that should lead to many combinations and lineups.

One key player on this season’s team is guard Gabe Vincent, who came to L.A. in July after playing a big role in the Miami Heat unexpectedly making a run to the NBA Finals last spring. He is known as a tenacious, gritty defender, but he also has some skill on offense.

Vincent can hit open 3-pointers, and he can help L.A. on certain sequences in its set offense. Starting point guard D’Angelo Russell praised Vincent’s intelligence while talking about how he likes playing alongside another ball-handling, playmaking guard.

“Just very high IQ. He’s a professional. You add a guy like that to any team, the value is very high. And it’s appreciated with the league being so young, you have a lot of guys that are straddling that line of vet, experience, things like that. He’s got a lot of experience coming off the season he just had and the previous one as well. He’s just a professional. I can play with a lot of different lineups but I feel like my strength when I play great is when I have another point guard next to me. I like to play the game at a high IQ level, pace, and usually when you don’t have another point guard and you’re the only point guard out there, guys don’t get you the ball when you’re open. You backdoor cut, you set a flare, things like that. But when you’re playing with guys like that, it allows you to be on the other end of receiving those type of compliments I would say on the floor.”

In the Lakers’ preseason opener on Saturday versus the Golden State Warriors, Vincent shot 2-of-4 from 3-point range. Given the fluctuation in his 3-point accuracy over time, that stat may be the biggest factor in determining his ultimate value to the team.
