Which Premier League teams are owned by Americans?

Half of the Premier League’s 20 teams are now under majority American ownership.

With the news of Everton’s takeover by U.S. private equity firm 777 Partners, the influence of American owners in the Premier League has never been higher.

When that deal goes through, it will mean that exactly half of the Premier League’s 20 teams are under American ownership. That includes four of the league’s biggest teams: Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool.

The English top flight has become an attractive investment for prospective owners as the league’s revenue from broadcast deals continues to skyrocket.

Here, we have listed all 10 Premier League clubs currently under American ownership. Some of the clubs include multiple owners/investors, so the American owners are italicized in those cases.

Palhinha flies to Munich, has medical, watches Bayern move disintegrate

Palhinha has become the transfer deadline day’s tragic figure

João Palhinha has become the transfer deadline day’s tragic figure, as his move from Fulham to Bayern Munich collapsed as he watched on helplessly from Bayern’s training facility.

Fulham had allowed the Portuguese midfielder to fly to Munich after reportedly agreeing to a fee in the region of €65 million with the German champions.

Though Palhinha arrived in Munich, the transfer was not completely sealed. Fulham was still reportedly searching for the 28-year-old’s replacement, which was a necessity for the Premier League club to allow one of its key players to depart.

Though the likes of Scott McTominay and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg were linked to the Cottagers, no deal went through prior to the 6 p.m. transfer deadline in Germany.

And so Palhinha — having already completed a medical and even taken photos with a Bayern shirt — saw his deadline-day move collapse in heartbreaking fashion.

It was a frustrating conclusion to a fruitless deadline day for Bayern, which also saw rumored moves for Armel Bella-Kotchap, Trevoh Chalobah and João Cancelo fall through.

But it was Palhinha’s collapsed deal which will hurt the most, as the Portugal international joins Peter Odemwingie in the annals of failed deadline-day transfers.

The Americans Abroad Five season review: The best and worst of 2022-23

Some teams were fun, some very much weren’t. Some players broke out, while others broke down

With the European club season in the rear-view mirror, it’s time to take stock of the year that was for Americans Abroad.

In many ways, 2022-23 felt like a preamble, a precursor to a much more significant club season to come. For the future of the U.S. men’s national team, what comes next will be more significant than what came before.

That’s because so many vital USMNT players are unsettled due to the nature of their 2022-23 campaign — some are ready to move up the food chain due to standout seasons, while others need a change of scenery for less positive reasons.

Before we turn the page to next season, let’s take a look back by handing out a few accolades for some notable Americans Abroad.

Manchester United vs. Fulham: How to watch, channel, time, lineups, live stream Premier League

How to tune in for Manchester United’s last #EPL clash against #Fulham:

Could Manchester United be on the way toward building another historic run of football?

Locking in a Champions League position next season is a nice start, which the club did on Thursday with a 4-1 thumping of Chelsea. Locking in a third-place finish would be an even nicer touch, which is exactly what the Red Devils can do against Fulham on matchday 38.

The final day of the Premier League season sees Manchester United facing the Cottagers.

Fulham admittedly does not have anything to play for. Their season will end with a 10th place finish regardless of Sunday’s finale. But if you’re looking for momentum heading into next season? A win at United, who have second-best home record (14-3-1) this season, is a great place to start for manager Marco Silva’s side.

Meanwhile, with a single point, Manchester United wrap up the third-place position in the EPL in 2022-23 over Newcastle United as they enter Sunday with a two-point cushion.

However, it might not be so simple. Gaffer Erik Ten Hag could be without multiple players including Antony and Luke Shaw, who picked up knocks against Chelsea.

Ahead of the final game of the season for these two sides, here’s how to catch all the action:

Manchester United vs. Fulham FC:

Ream: I’ll tell my grandkids about Guardiola compliment — even if it was backhanded

It’s true: Guardiola really did tell Ream he would be playing for him if he were 10 years younger

Tim Ream has said he’ll be able to tell his grandkids about an encounter he had with Pep Guardiola after a Fulham-Manchester City match last fall.

The story was originally recounted by then-U.S. men’s national team head coach Gregg Berhalter after Ream was selected for the 2022 World Cup roster.

“Tim Ream just played against Man City and after the game, Guardiola walks up to him and says, ‘If you were 24 instead of 34, you’d be playing for me,’” Berhalter said.

“So Tim said, ‘It’s too bad I’m not 34, I’m 35.’”

Speaking to Pro Soccer Wire, Ream called Berhalter’s version of the story “pretty accurate” and said the run-in with City’s manager took place in the tunnel of Etihad Stadium after Erling Haaland had scored a stoppage-time penalty to give City a 2-1 win.

“I was heading to the bus and [Guardiola] stopped me and said that,” Ream said. “For me, I wouldn’t say it’s the culmination, because I’m not finished playing, but to have a manager of that caliber, a manager of that quality stop and recognize what you’re doing is pretty cool.”

Ream said Guardiola may have been flying high after City’s win, but was still happy the manager felt compelled to offer some praise to “an old guy” who turned out to be even older than he thought.

“Some may see it as a backhanded compliment and it very well could have been,” Ream added. “I’m sure he was feeling good after they scored a 90-plus minute penalty to win the match and he felt like dishing out a compliment to an old guy.

“It’s a pretty cool anecdote to have for myself in my career, just to have that recognition that somebody of his quality recognizes that you are doing something in a really good way. It was a pretty cool moment that I’ll be able to take. Obviously I told my kids, and I’ll tell my grandkids when he’s still managing in potentially 20 to 30 years.”

Ream had a stellar campaign with Fulham, starting every game and captaining the Cottagers until he suffered a broken arm in the reverse fixture against City on April 30.

The center back also started all four of the USMNT’s World Cup matches, though that arm injury will keep him out of national team action this summer.

Tim Ream to miss USMNT summer tournaments with arm injury

A broken arm will sideline Ream for the Nations League and Gold Cup

Tim Ream’s broken arm will sideline him from CONCACAF Nations League and Gold Cup action this summer, the U.S. men’s national team defender has told Pro Soccer Wire.

Ream suffered the injury with Fulham in a Premier League match against Manchester City on April 30, with the veteran center back undergoing surgery days later.

Fulham has said it expects Ream back for its preseason, which will begin in July. Ream said he was holding out hope he could play some part for the USMNT this summer, but the two competitions ultimately would arrive too soon.

“I’m definitely not playing any part with the U.S. unfortunately,” Ream said in an interview. “There was an outside chance that I would have been able to for the Gold Cup. Nations League is too soon.

“I am under strict orders of six weeks of no-contact training or physical activity. So six weeks comes I believe two days before the Nations League semifinal. And that only leaves me two days of contact training, and that’s not really conducive to performing at a high level with the national team.

“So I’m obviously ruled out of [Nations League] medically and then with the Gold Cup being so soon after, we’ve taken the decision to let the arm heal even more.

“Because if I leave it and come back for preseason that puts me at between nine and 10 weeks of of healing. And that’s a whole heck of a lot better than saying ‘OK, let’s take a risk at six weeks.'”

The USMNT will face Mexico on June 15 in the Nations League semifinal, with the final scheduled for three days later. The U.S. will then kick off the 2023 Gold Cup against Jamaica on June 24, with the final set for July 16.

Ream started all four of the USMNT’s games at the 2022 World Cup, and was set to play a major role in the Nations League at least.

Ream set for Summer Series

Though he’ll miss out for the USMNT this summer, Ream said he expects to be fit for Fulham’s preseason tour of the United States.

The Cottagers are one of six teams in the Premier League Summer Series, the league’s first preseason tournament in the USA. Ream said he’s looking forward to showing his teammates how big the Premier League has become in his home country.

“I’m looking forward to bringing the team to the U.S. and showing them the amount of fans that are based in the U.S.,” the 35-year-old said. “Being able to come and play in some big cities, nice stadiums and just show where the culture is with soccer in the U.S. and show my teammates what it’s like.

“Obviously there’s a lot of [Americans] playing in the Premier League now and the interest just grows with the number of players that we have over here.”

Ream first moved to the Premier League in 2011-12 with Bolton and he said that compared to back then, more fans in the United States have made up their minds when it comes to their Premier League allegiances.

“There was a lot of flip-flopping teams, right? Whatever teams were winning at the time, fans were happy to kind of jump on bandwagons,” Ream said. “Now you’re seeing more and more people who are picking teams and sticking with them, no matter what happens.”

Tim Ream exits Fulham-Man City match with ugly arm injury

The veteran defender has played his last game in 2022-23

One of the best performing Americans in Europe has played his last game this season.

Tim Ream, who has started every Premier League game for Fulham in a resurgent 2022-23 campaign, was forced out in the first half of Sunday’s match against Manchester City with a serious looking arm injury.

Midway through the first half at Craven Cottage, Ream awkwardly fell after a collision with Julián Álvarez in the box. The defender immediately grabbed his right arm in pain after what looked like a bad injury.

Issa Diop came on to replace the U.S. international, who received a big ovation from the home fans as he left the field in a makeshift sling.

After his side fell 2-1 to City, Fulham manager Marco Silva confirmed that Ream had suffered a broken arm.

Speaking to Sky Sports about Ream and Andreas Pereira, who was also injured in the game, Silva said: “They are both in hospital. They both look [like] serious injuries. Tim Ream looks like a fracture in his arm. Let’s wait to see if it’s not serious with Andreas.”

Silva later added to to Match of the Day: “It looked clear Tim Ream will not play for us this season, [he’s] broken his arm.”

Ream has experienced a renaissance in 2022-23, becoming one of the top center backs in the Premier League at age 35 while working his way back to the U.S. national team. The veteran started all four of the USMNT’s games at the 2022 World Cup.

The 35-year-old will not only miss Fulham’s remaining five games of the season, but is now also a major doubt for the USMNT’s two competitions this summer.

The USMNT will face Mexico in the CONCACAF Nations League semifinal in June, and will also look to defend its Gold Cup title starting the same month.

Premier League home stretch: Where things stand as season enters its final month

Some teams are having a blast, while others are going through it

The Premier League is getting down to the nitty-gritty.

The end of the season is approaching, with most teams having five or six games left to secure a trophy, a spot in Europe, or just keep themselves in the top flight for another year.

For some teams, the end of the season was expected to be a pressure-cooker, but has instead been something of a celebration. For others, it’s one last chance to fight their way to safety, or at least salvage some pride in an otherwise disappointing season.

Here’s where everyone stands heading into the last month of the 2022-23 season.

Chelsea headlines six-team Premier League Summer Series in USA

The Premier League will hold its first pre-season tournament in the USA this summer

The Premier League will hold its first preseason tournament in the USA this summer, as six teams were confirmed for the nine-game Premier League Summer Series in late July.

Chelsea will headline the event and will be joined by Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton, Fulham and Newcastle.

Five venues will play host to the games, with Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia hosting the opener on July 22 between Chelsea and Brighton.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Red Bull Arena in New Jersey and FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland will also host games.

Though Premier League sides have been doing preseason tours of the U.S. for years, this is the first preseason tournament in America involving Premier League sides, mirroring the Premier League Asia Trophy.

“We are delighted to be bringing six clubs to the USA in July for the first-ever Premier League Summer Series,” Premier League CEO Richard Masters said in a statement.

“Our clubs have incredible supporters in the U.S., who passionately follow their teams throughout the season.

“We have seen this dedication first-hand from the tens of thousands who have attended our Mornings Live fan events and are excited to be building on this by bringing live Premier League action to five cities this summer.

“We are currently enjoying one of the most competitive Premier League seasons of all time at both ends of the table and I am sure we will see some thrilling matches during the tournament.”

‘Grandpa’ Tim Ream on making USMNT World Cup roster: ‘I didn’t expect to be here’

The 35-year-old admitted he had made his peace with the fact he probably wasn’t going to Qatar

Tim Ream was a surprise late addition to the U.S. national team’s World Cup roster. Among those who were surprised? Tim Ream.

Ream is in the midst of a stellar season in the Premier League with Fulham but it appeared his fate was sealed in September when he was omitted from the team’s roster for two friendlies.

USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter then appeared to deliver an epitaph on Ream’s national team career, saying that the veteran defender didn’t fit the style he was looking to play.

But when Berhalter named his World Cup roster earlier this month, Ream was there. It was his first call-up since September 2021.

“You don’t ever give up hope,” Ream said at a press conference. “You never completely say you’re out of the picture.”

But he added: “With not being involved, not being called in, you kind of start to make peace and accept where things are heading.”

But things have changed rapidly in recent weeks. Ream’s ascent is mostly due to his form at Fulham, but an injury that kept Chris Richards off the roster also helped the veteran’s chances.

“Two weeks ago I had a phone call with Gregg and things kind of took a turn for the better for me personally,” Ream said.

“I didn’t expect to be here,” he added. “To get a phone call from Gregg to invite me in and officially put me back in the squad is great. It’s something that we all dream of as a kid to be here, and to have that opportunity after the last year of being away, it’s a proud moment and a special feeling.”

At 35, Ream is the oldest player on a youthful U.S, roster by two and a half years. Tyler Adams joked that he and his teammates call Ream “grandpa,” but added that the defender’s experience was crucial in a team with an average age of 25 years, 175 days.

“Tim’s the grandpa of the group,” Adams said with a laugh. “It’s exciting to have him back. Obviously, his performances with Fulham this season so far speak for themselves.

“Not getting called into last camp for him was tough probably. But he’s been working hard and his performances earned him this position right now.

“He’s a crucial part to our team. I think at times we probably missed him in this team, his leadership, his quality that he has, just having someone of that experience and caliber in and around the group — it’s good to have him back.”
