Florida vs South Carolina Game Preview

Why Florida Will Win

The Gators are taking the ball away.

The defense has been a disaster at times. It’s one of the worst in the nation third down stops, allows too many first downs, and it’s getting hammered through the air allowing 220 yards or more in each of the last six games.

It’s a problem, but it’s forcing takeaways with two or more in six of the last seven games. South Carolina might have limited the turnovers to one in the win over Vanderbilt, but it gave the way multiple times in every other game.

There’s not going to be any defensive pressure on red hot Gator QB Anthony Richardson, the secondary is getting hit hard, and …

Why South Carolina Will Win

Again, the Florida defense is struggling.

On a roll, the Gamecocks have quietly been fantastic over the last six weeks going 5-1 over the last six with a fun finishing kick facing Tennessee and Clemson to close. Already bowl eligible, now the team gets to have some fun.

This is where Spencer Rattler has to rise and shine by pressing the deep shots over and over to stress test a secondary that’s allowing close to 13 yards per completion. He’ll get picked once or twice, but he has to keep pressing.

As much attention as Spencer Rattler and the passing game receive, and as bad as the Florida secondary has been, this is about the rushing attack.

South Carolina is 5-0 when it runs for over 100 yards, 1-3 when it doesn’t, and …

Schedules, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Florida has allowed 134 or more rushing yards in every game but the loss to Kentucky.

The South Carolina defense will do a whole lot of bending without breaking, the pass defense will allow plenty of yards, and Richardson will have a nice day, but the offense will get grinding.

Rattler won’t bomb away, but he’ll connect on a few good deep passes and the running game will take over just enough to keep the momentum rolling.

Florida vs South Carolina Game Preview

Why Florida Will Win

The Florida run defense should get a bit of a break.

The Gators were blasted by an LSU running game that’s done absolutely nothing against anyone else.

Georgia was also able to pound away, and while there haven’t been that many issues overall for the Florida run D, the five rushing touchdowns allowed in the last two games haven’t been a plus.

South Carolina has a terrific group of running backs that just can’t get going.

There are plenty of positives in Shane Beamer’s first year, but getting the ground attack going has been an issue – it failed to get to 100 yards in five of the last seven games.

On the flip side, South Carolina’s defensive front has allowed 230 rushing yards or more in three of the last five games and is 0-4 when giving up at least 184 yards.

Florida averages 243 rushing yards a game.

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 10

Why South Carolina Will Win

Just how busted up and demoralized is Florida?

Everyone is saying all of the right things, but the Gators are 4-4 – just like South Carolina.

Florida has lost three of its last four games and four of the last six, and the last thing it can afford in a game like this is an unfocused effort considering their massive turnover issues.

There’s been at least one in every game, but the problem was manageable. Over the last three games, though, the two to Vanderbilt didn’t matter, the four against LSU were a killer, and the three against Georgia made a bad situation worse.

South Carolina also has a massive giveaway problem, but the D has been great this year – at least it was great over the first part of the season – at taking the ball away.

Being a +2 in this would make it interesting.

What’s Going To Happen

South Carolina just doesn’t have the guys to get this done. The want-to is there, and the four wins so far have been great, but the best win so far was against … Troy? East Carolina?

The Gamecocks will come up with the takeaways and keep this from getting out of hand early, but the Gators will sharpen up, get the O going, and will go on two good second half scoring drives to take over the tempo of the game.

Why South Carolina Will Win

The team can shoot.

It’s been great from three over the last few games and outside of a rough day against Missouri, it’s been strong from the field including hitting a season-high half of their shots in the loss to Vanderbilt.

Active on the boards, they’re able to make amends for a slew of misses with a ton of offensive rebounds including 22 in the win over Georgia a few games ago. This is an okay Florida team on the boards, but it’s not amazing.

However …

Why Florida Will Win

South Carolina doesn’t win because it can’t grab the defensive boards. It rocks on the offensive glass, but it gives up a ton of second chance points allowing a ridiculous 42 offensive boards in the last three games.

Combine that with the inability to force a slew of mistakes and the defense has been way too inconsistent. It’s been okay over the last few games, but Missouri and Auburn scored at will in easy wins a few weeks ago.

As long as Florida is able to be up around 45% from the field it’ll be fine, and if it’s not …

What’s Going To Happen

The Gators will come up with their share of offensive rebounds to make up for the problems. They’ll hit from three, they’ll get on the move, and they’ll struggle to keep up late in a fun shootout.

It’s a battle of SEC teams this afternoon when the South Carolina Gamecocks are on the road against the #3 Florida Gators on Saturday from the Swamp in Gainesville.

South Carolina is coming off a 31-27 loss to #16 Tennessee last week in their season opener while Florida won in blowout fashion 51-35 against Ole Miss.

The Gators have won the previous two meetings including a 38-27 loss last season. Can they continue their hot streak against SC?  Tune in today, here is everything you need to know to follow the NCAA Football action today.

South Carolina vs. #3 Florida

  • When: Saturday, October 3
  • Time: 12:00 p.m. ET
  • TV Channel: ESPN
  • Live Stream: fuboTV (watch for free)

Prediction: I have to go with the Florida Gators in this one, they put up 51 points on Ole Miss last week and I expect a similar type game here. South Carolina is able to put up points as well, they snuck 27 on Tennessee last week. If you’re wary of giving up 17 points, stick with the over.

Bet: Florida -17. Over 57.5
