Chiefs HC Andy Reid to throw ceremonial first pitch at Kansas City Royals Opening Day

#Chiefs head coach Andy Reid will throw the ceremonial first pitch at the Kansas City #Royals Opening Day on March 28.

Since winning Super Bowl LVIII, the honors and earned respect continue to be showered on the Kansas City Chiefs coaches and players. The usual names of Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes continue to do public appearances, while their head coach will get a chance to show a nonfootball version of himself later this month.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has been officially announced to have the honor of throwing the ceremonial first pitch at Kansas City Royals Opening Day. On March 28th, before the Royals host the Minnesota Twins, Reid will have his chance to show the world his arm by tossing a baseball over the plate at Kaufman Stadium.

The announcement was made on Tuesday afternoon via the Royals’ social media account, encouraging fans to show up and support the long-time coach.

The newly turned 66-year-old will toe the rubber with hopefully better results than Kelce had in his return trip home to Cleveland last year with a disastrous first pitch. The blunder from the Chiefs’ tight end was so bad that the Royals offered him redemption with a special Chiefs’ night later in the season.

The game will start at 3:10 p.m. CT, with the first 30,000 fans to receive a Bobby Witt Jr. bobblehead. The event could see some of Reid’s current or former players in the stands for support, including part-owner Mahomes.

Dodgers reliever Brusdar Graterol’s mom threw an absolutely perfect first pitch

This was such a cool moment for Brusdar Graterol and his mom.

For Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Brusdar Graterol, his baseball skills clearly run in the family.

After an emotional reunion between Grateol and his mother Ysmalia on Tuesday, the Dodgers invited Graterol’s mom to the team’s Thursday game against the San Francisco Giants to throw out the first pitch.

Well, she threw an absolutely perfect pitch to her son, who caught the ball as it crossed home plate. Like, it was a textbook pitch, as good as you could possibly ask for in a first pitch.

Graterol’s mom was a former softball pitcher in Venezuela, so that absolutely worked in her favor. After the impressive pitch, Graterol embraced his mom with a big hug as they soaked in the awesome moment together.

This is just the absolute best, and it’s a testament to why it’s so cool when families get involved with first pitches.

It’s been an emotional week for Graterol, and he got to celebrate his mom being able to attend his games in the most special way.

Kyle Hamilton throws out first pitch at Orioles game

It wasn’t thrown hard but it was certainly over the plate

It was a Notre Dame connection on Tuesday night at Camden Yards in Baltimore when Ravens first round draft pick [autotag]Kyle Hamilton[/autotag] threw out the first pitch ahead of the Orioles home game against the Washington Nationals.

Hamilton wasn’t the only Domer participating however as former Notre Dame baseball star and current Oriole [autotag]Trey Mancini[/autotag] caught the first pitch.  You can check out Hamilton’s toss below,

Hopefully Hamilton brings more luck to the Ravens this year than he did the Orioles as they fell 3-0 and recorded just three hits in the contest.

Chiefs Check-in: Travis Kelce redeems himself with successful first pitch

Travis Kelce’s successful first pitch at the Royals matchup against the Reds highlighted the #Chiefs news on Monday:

Chiefs Check-in is our online newsletter at Chiefs Wire, running Monday-Friday mornings. Subscribe to get more Chiefs news delivered to your inbox every day.

The most important piece of Kansas City Chiefs news on Monday came from a successful first pitch thrown by tight end Travis Kelce at Kauffmann Stadium after his horrendous performance earlier in the Royals’ schedule. He redeemed himself, and for embarrassed Chiefs fans, the mulligan meant more than just a measly ceremonial toss.

Check out that and more in today’s edition of Chiefs Check-in for the morning of Tuesday, June 13:

WATCH: Nick Saban throws out the first pitch at Alabama baseball game

Nick Saban throws out first pitch ahead of Alabama baseball’s showdown with Samford

Alabama head football coach, Nick Saban, is most well known for winning seven national titles and being the greatest college football coach of all time. However, people are now asking if he could have been the greatest pitcher in MLB history after delivering an absolute strike ahead of Alabama’s baseball game against in-state foe Samford.

Saban is a known fan of the New York Yankees and seems like he has picked up a pitch or two over the years.

Crimson Tide baseball did their part as they walked away victorious on the night by a score of 13-6. Alabama travels to Baton Rouge this weekend for a series with the No. 1 LSU Tigers.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Nick Saban’s potential baseball career

Chiefs’ Travis Kelce laughs off botched first pitch at Guardians’ home opener

#Chiefs TE Travis Kelce pointed to his touchdown celebrations as the reason for his short first pitch at the Cleveland Guardians’ home opener on Friday. | from @TheJohnDillon

Travis Kelce is the NFL’s preeminent tight end and a former high-school quarterback, but the Kansas City Chiefs star proved to possess less-than-phenomenal baseball skills when throwing out the first pitch at the Cleveland Guardians’ home opener on Friday.

Appearing with his mother Donna Kelce for the occasion,  Travis got a little too flashy with his windup, and ultimately bungled the first pitch, spiking the ball into the ground. After Twitter was set abuzz by the video, he made a point to defend himself on the platform, pointing to his tendency to spike footballs after touchdowns as his only explanation for the embarrassing affair.

Check it out:

It is never easy to make such an error on camera, but botching a first pitch on opening day in front of tens of thousands of fans from his hometown was sure to be humiliating for the future Hall of Famer.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes had his own take on the matter, asking Kansas City’s beloved Royals to give Kelce a second chance at Kauffman Stadium later in the season.

To his credit, Kelce did manage to cover the runner at home plate. One thing is certain after this catastrophe; the All-Pro tight end made the right call by pursuing a career in football instead of trying to make it in the MLB.

John Daly, Miss Missouri throw out first pitches at St. Louis Cardinals game

John Daly and the PGA Tour Champions are in St. Louis for the Ascension Charity Classic.

John Daly was a special guest of the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night and was called upon to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game against the Washington Nationals.

Clad in a red Cardinals shirt, some funky patterned Cardinals shorts (that frankly are just his style) and wearing blue slides on his feet, Daly wasted now time approaching the mound, then turning and firing a strike, right over the middle of the plate.

Daly shared the pre-game spotlight with Miss Missouri, Clare Marie Kuebler, who also threw out a first pitch.

Daly is in the Gateway City along with the rest of the PGA Tour Champions gang for the Ascension Charity Classic, Friday through Sunday at Norwood Hills Country Club.

Watch: Drew Brees leads LSU baseball huddle, throws first pitch for Georgia game

Watch: Drew Brees leads LSU baseball huddle, throws first pitch for Georgia game, via @DillySanders

Drew Brees and his kids are having a fun Sunday in Baton Rouge as the future Hall of Fame quarterback took to Alex Box Stadium to throw the first pitch of the LSU Tigers baseball game with the Georgia Bulldogs. Before the game, he took to LSU’s huddle to deliver one of his famous speeches that we saw every Sunday before New Orleans Saints games. The Tigers players were left plenty fired up, as they headed into the rubber match of the weekend, figuring out who would win the series.

The after-effects of Brees’ speech were clearly felt as LSU’s leadoff hitter, star centerfielder Dylan Crews, hit a 433-foot home run off of the top of the scoreboard in the team’s first at-bat of the day. See for yourself:

Brees also ran into someone he had never met before, but certainly looked familiar. Arizona Wildcats transfer-turned-LSU star switch hitter Jacob Berry has been told all season that he looks just like a younger version of Brees. This theory has now been proven as the two took a picture together, and it’s hard to miss the comparison:

Masters champ Scottie Scheffler throws out the first pitch in Green Jacket

Masters champ Scottie Scheffler threw out the first pitch at the Texas Rangers while wearing the Green Jacket.

Scottie Scheffler and his new prized possession, the Green Jacket, are starting to make the rounds in his hometown of Dallas.

After skipping out on some of the typical post-major victory media tours in New York City and on The Late Show, Scheffler, who won the Masters on April 10, threw out the first pitch at the Texas Rangers home game against the Houston Astros on Wednesday — in the jacket no less and a nifty Masters tie to boot. (The pitch was better than most, but high and definitely a ball.)

And he’s not done on the local sporting circuit: a press release from the NHL’s Dallas Stars said that Scheffler will participate in the ceremonial puck drop prior to the team’s 2021-22 regular-season finale on Friday, April 29 against the Anaheim Ducks at American Airlines Center.

Scheffler, the World No. 1, played in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans last week with partner Ryan Palmer. When asked during their press conference where he had taken the Green Jacket, he said he’d only had it at home.

“When my wife asks me to do stuff at home, sometimes I’ll grab it out of the closet and look at her, huh, really? It hasn’t worked yet,” he said. “Yeah, I’ve just had some fun with it at home. I haven’t really done anything special. I haven’t taken it out of the house. I think I’m the only one that can take the jacket off property. So I want to do a good job of representing Augusta National well, and I got to bring it back at the end of next year. Since I’m almost the representation of the Green Jacket outside of the club, I’m treating it with respect. I’m not going to do anything crazy with it.”

It’s a new week. The first pitch and dropping the puck? Those apparently are fine. And why stop there — Scheffler should totally announce the first round draft choice for the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night while wearing the Green Jacket. Perhaps the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks — who are on the road Thursday — can have Scheffler do the opening tip if their playoff series goes seven games with the Utah Jazz on Sunday. After all, it’s Texas, where you’ve got to go big or go home.

Conor McGregor recreated his much-mocked football throw with an equally terrible first pitch

Just a bit outside.

Conor McGregor has been showing up at U.S. sporting events the past few days. He was at Sunday’s Chargers-Cowboys game. And on Tuesday, the Cubs decided for some reason to welcome the UFC star to Wrigley Field to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

It didn’t go well.

Now, a few years ago, McGregor received the meme treatment from NFL fans when he was filmed throwing a football like someone who has never thrown a football before. His form was all over the place then, and Tuesday’s attempt at throwing a baseball wasn’t much better.

Taking the mound in a full suit, McGregor launched the ball 20 feet wide and into the backstop.
