Packers RB Aaron Jones named FedEx Ground Player of the Week for Week 2 of 2022

For the fifth time in his career, Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones has been named the FedEx Ground Player of the Week.

For the fifth time in his career, Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones has been named the FedEx Ground Player of the Week.

Jones, who rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown against the Chicago Bears, won the award for Week 2 of the 2022 season. His 132 rushing yards led all players during the week.

Overall, Jones finished with 170 total yards and a pair of scores during the Packers’ 27-10 win.

Coach Matt LaFleur called Jones “absolutely electric.” He broke 13 total tackles, including 11 as a runner.

Jones beat Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (119 yards, one touchdown) and Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb (87 yards, three touchdowns) for the award.

Through two games this season, Jones has carried 20 times for 181 yards (sixth-most in NFL). He is averaging 9.1 yards per carry.

Jones previously won the award in Week 2 of 2020, Week 13 of 2020, Week 5 of 2019 and Week 7 of 2017.

Colts’ Jonathan Taylor nominated for FedEx Ground Player of the Week

JT was nominated for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week.

Indianapolis Colts fans may have been shocked to see the team nearly take on an incredible upset loss against the Houston Texans, but what they’re not surprised with is how dominant running back Jonathan Taylor was.

Taylor picked up right where he left off the 2021 campaign as the league’s best running back. He took 31 carries for 161 rushing yards and a touchdown while adding four receptions for 14 receiving yards in the 20-20 tie.

The performance landed him a nomination for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week. Here are the other names on the list

  • Jonathan Taylor: 31 carries, 161 yards, one touchdown
  • D’Andre Swift: 15 carries, 144 yards, one touchdown
  • Nick Chubb: 22 carries, 141 yards

It’s a bit odd that Saquon Barkley isn’t on the list considering he led the league with 164 rushing yards in Week 1. However, Taylor’s performance was to be expected.

He had six runs that went at least 10 yards, and his long on the day was 17 yards. That tells us the majority of his rushes were between 5-10 yards.

Though the Colts didn’t come away with the win, Taylor is well on his way to competing for the rushing title for the second year in a row.

Rashaad Penny earns FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week honors

Rashaad Penny earns FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week honors

Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny has earned the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week award for his rushing performance against the Detroit Lions in Week 17. As a result, FedEx will donate $2,000 in his name to HBCUs, funding scholarships for deserving students.

Seattle’s fourth-year running back rushed for 170 yards and two touchdowns on the day, continuing his incredible late-season surge and also earning him NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. He is approaching free agency in March and may have dramatically increased his stock at the perfect time, as he could receive lucrative offers from a few teams once the new league year officially begins.

Penny has been ineffective for most of this season but has compiled at least 135 rushing yards in three of the last four games and has looked like a star while doing so, which gives the Seahawks yet another difficult decision to make this offseason.

Texans RB Rex Burkhead wins FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week

Houston Texans RB Rex Burkhead took home the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week for his efforts in the 41-29 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Houston Texans running back Rex Burkhead won the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week for Week 16 after his career game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The former Cincinnati Bengals 2013 sixth-round pick from Nebraska rushed for a career high 149 yards and a career tying two touchdowns on 22 attempts as the Texans upset the Chargers 41-29 Sunday afternoon at NRG Stadium. Burkhead was the first 100-yard performer for the Texans in 2021, and also has control of the most rushing yards for Houston this season with 356.

“You could just feel a burst of air and then you would see him getting up to the second level,” right tackle Charlie Heck said. “He was running hard yesterday, and he always does. So, he did a great job.”

With Burkhead winning the player of the week award, FedEx will make a $2,000 donation in his name to a Historically Black College or University, which will be applied towards needs-based scholarships to deserving HBCU students.

FedEx will make an additional $2,000 donation in the name of Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who won the FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week for generating 525 yards and four touchdowns with a 143.2 passer rating in Cincinnati’s 41-21 win over the Baltimore Ravens Sunday afternoon.

D’Andre Swift nominated for FedEx Ground Player of the Week for 2nd week in a row

Swift ran for 136 yards and a touchdown on just 14 carries in Week 11

For the second week in a row, Detroit Lions running back D’Andre Swift is one of three finalists for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week.

Swift ran for 136 yards and a touchdown on just 14 carries in Detroit’s 13-10 loss in Cleveland in Week 11. It was the second week in a row Swift topped 130 rushing yards. In Week 10, Swift hit 130 yards on 33 carries in the Lions tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He’s got some stiff competition in Week 11. Colts RB Jonathan Taylor ran for 185 yards and four touchdowns in Indianapolis’ romp over Buffalo. Bengals RB Joe Mixon is the other finalist after rushing for 123 yards and two TDs in Cincinnati’s win over the Raiders.

D’Andre Swift nominated for FedEx Ground Player of the Week

Swift is the Lions first nominee for the award since at least 2018

For the first time in the season, a Detroit Lions player is nominated for one of the weekly honors sponsored by FedEx. Lions running back D’Andre Swift is one of three finalists for the Week 10 FedEx Ground Player of the Week.

Swift ran for 130 yards on 33 carries, both career highs, in the Lions’ 16-16 tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was just the second time Swift has topped the 100-yard mark in a game in his two seasons in Detroit. He is the first Lions nominee for the weekly award since at least 2018.

Swift is up against Rhamondre Stevenson of the New England Patriots and Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts.

Bears RB David Montgomery once again nominated for FedEx’s Ground Player of the Week

Bears RB David Montgomery’s 106-yard rushing performance against the Lions garnered him a nomination for FedEx Ground Player of the Week.

David Montgomery has been the best running back in the NFC this season — and the Bears’ best offensive player — and it’s easy to see why after his second 100-yard rushing game through these first four weeks.

Montgomery led the Bears with 106 rushing yards on 23 carries (4.6 average) and two touchdowns. Chicago leaned heavily on Montgomery to establish a rhythm early, and the offense actually looked like a competent offense due to a combination of Bill Lazor calling plays, Justin Fields’ deep ball accuracy and Montgomery’s play.

That performance garnered Montgomery a nomination for FedEx’s Ground Player of the Week, where he’s up against the likes of Dallas’ Ezekiel Elliot and Tennessee’s Derrick Henry.

This is Montgomery’s second FedEx Ground Player of the Week nomination this year. He was nominated back in Week 1 after rushing for 108 yards rushing on 16 carries (6.8 average) and a touchdown against the Rams.

Montgomery suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter, where he could’ve added to his stats. Initial reports are that Montgomery didn’t suffer a major knee injury — like an ACL tear — although he’s undergoing further testing.

Montgomery will miss some time, although we don’t know how much at this time.

Bears RB David Montgomery nominated for FedEx’s Ground Player of the Week

Bears RB David Montgomery’s 108-yard rushing performance against the Rams garnered him FedEx Ground Player of the Week honors.

Bears running back David Montgomery picked up right where he left off last season during Sunday night’s Week 1 loss to the Rams, where he was easily Chicago’s best player on the field.

Montgomery led the Bears with 108 yards rushing on 16 carries (6.8 average), including a 41-yard run on the first series of the game to give Chicago an early scoring opportunity. Montgomery scored the Bears’ first of two rushing touchdowns late in the second quarter on a 3-yard run to cut the Rams’ lead to 13-7.

That performance garnered Montgomery a nomination for FedEx’s Ground Player of the Week, where he’s up against the likes of Cincinnati’s Joe Mixon and Denver’s Melvin Gordon.

Montgomery is coming off his first 1,000-yard season, where he finished with the fifth-most rushing yards in the NFL in 2020. Montgomery currently is the second-leading rusher in the league, behind Mixon, through Sunday’s slate of games in Week 1.

Texans RB David Johnson nominated for FedEx Ground Player of the Week

Houston Texans running back David Johnson has been nominated for the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week for Week 16.

Houston Texans running back David Johnson is finally earning some respect, albeit with just one game left in the 2020 regular season.

One of the bright spots from the 37-31 letdown to the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday afternoon at NRG Stadium was Johnson’s 128 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Finally, the former 2016 All-Pro was able to demonstrate what he could do on the ground for the Texans’ offense.

For Johnson’s efforts, he has been nominated for the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week Award. Fans have until 2:00 p.m. CT at to cast their votes for Johnson. Fans can also vote on Twitter at the NFL’s official Twitter account or on the NFL Mobile App.

Johnson faces stiff competition. Not only did San Francisco 49ers running back Jeff Wilson rush for 183 yards on 22 carries Sunday, but New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara rushed for 155 yards and six touchdowns on 22 carries.

The FedEx Air nominees include Tom Brady, who went 22-of-27 for 348 yards and four touchdowns and posted a perfect 158.3 passer rating. Bengals quarterback Brandon Allen completed 29 of 37 passing for 371 yards and two touchdowns. Finally, Dallas quarterback Andy Dalton went 22-of-30 for 377 yards and three touchdowns against the Philadelphia Eagles.

If Johnson is able to get the ward, FedEx will honor him by working with Direct Relief to deliver emergency medical backpacks to a Houston-area clinic or health center. The backpacks can take care of 500 people in each community.

Bears RB David Montgomery nominated for FedEx’s Ground Player of the Week

David Montgomery has been on a tear over the last month, but it was his Week 15 performance against the Vikings that was his best yet.

[jwplayer Huuatmwd-ThvAeFxT]

The Chicago Bears offense has found new life with the run game and second-year running back David Montgomery, who has been on a tear over the last month.

But Montgomery’s best game came on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, where the Bears needed to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. And it was Montgomery’s stellar performance that led the way.

Montgomery gained 146 rushing yards on 32 carries (4.6 average) with two touchdowns. His rushing total and carries were both career highs.

That performance garnered Montgomery a nomination for FedEx’s Ground Player of the Week, where he’s up against the likes of Tennessee’s Derrick Henry and Green Bay’s Aaron Jones.

Montgomery has recorded three 100-yard rushing games — including back-to-back 100-yard games — over the last four games. With a rejuvenated offensive line, better play-calling and new opportunities, Montgomery has been showing everyone why he’s one of the league’s exciting young backs to watch.
