Falcons mock draft: Atlanta lands Georgia LB, Penn State WR

Using Pro Football Focus’ mock draft simulator, we made Atlanta’s three selections in the first two rounds of the 2022 draft.

As 2022 begins and the 2021 NFL season winds down, coverage of the draft is about to get ramped way up.

There are still two games remaining in the regular season and somehow the Atlanta Falcons are simultaneously on track for a top-10 pick and fighting for an NFC playoff seed. This year’s draft will be crucial as the Falcons front office continues to operate with very little cap space.

Using the Pro Football Focus mock draft simulator, we went through the first two rounds of the 2022 draft and made all three of Atlanta’s picks. Here are the results from our New Year’s Day Falcons mock.

10 facts about Falcons No. 4 overall draft pick TE Kyle Pitts

The Atlanta Falcons drafted former Florida Gators TE Kyle Pitts No. 4 overall. Here are 10 facts surrounding the selection.

The Atlanta Falcons drafted former Florida Gators tight end Kyle Pitts No. 4 overall in the 2021 NFL draft.

The Falcons have given Matt Ryan another weapon, and receivers Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley have another target to take the heat off of them downfield.

Here are 10 facts surrounding Atlanta’s selection of the Florida tight end.

Falcons select QB Zach Wilson, Miami EDGE in Draft Wire’s new mock

This 2021 NFL Draft is especially top-heavy at the quarterback position, with three players, Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State’s Justin Fields and BYU’s Zach Wilson, projected to go in the top five.

This 2021 NFL Draft is especially top-heavy at the quarterback position, with three players, Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State’s Justin Fields and BYU’s Zach Wilson, projected to go in the top five.

Most teams picking that high in the draft would be thrilled about the prospect of landing a potential franchise QB. However, the Atlanta Falcons have Matt Ryan under contract, and a rookie signal-caller surely won’t solve the team’s problems in 2021.

Having Ryan doesn’t mean the Falcons won’t still grab one of the three blue-chip quarterback prospects they’re likely to have a shot at with their first-round selection, though. In Draft Wire’s latest mock draft, Luke Easterling has Atlanta picking Zach Wilson with the No. 4 overall pick.

Prior to the year, Wilson wasn’t considered to be in the same class as Lawrence or Fields. In 2019, he threw for just 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. This season, Wilson threw for 33 touchdowns, 3,692 yards and just three picks, while completing 73.5 percent of his passes.

Check out this highlight video of Wilson playing against Boise State earlier this year.

Easterling’s draft extends to the second round, where the Falcons again find a pass rusher that could step in right away. Miami’s Jaelan Phillips is the pick for Atlanta at No. 35 overall.

In 2020, Phillips racked up 45 tackles (21 solo), eight sacks, three passes defended and one interception. Check out some footage of Phillips going up against Virginia Tech below.

There’s still one game remaining, though, which could alter the 2021 draft order. The Falcons won’t be falling out of the top ten, but even if the pick drops down one or two spots, it could affect whether or not the team takes a quarterback in the first round.

Solomon Kindley has advice for former Georgia football teammates

Georgia football offensive guard Solomon Kindley has advice for his former UGA teammates while at the NFL Combine.

Georgia offensive guard Solomon Kindley is in Indianapolis this week for the NFL Combine.

Viewed anywhere from a first to third round draft pick, Kindley is meeting with teams, undergoing body measurements and eventually will partake in on-field drills.

Kindley said he has already met with the Packers and Patriots and has plans to meet with the Falcons and the Chiefs.

Since 2017, he started 10 games at right guard and 26 at left guard. He left Georgia with one year of eligibility remaining, and during an interview at the combine he mentioned that he misses Athens and his teammates back in Georgia.

“I’m not going to lie, I miss my teammates,” Kindley said. “I miss my little brothers. I miss them UGA Dawgs.”

When asked what he missed most about Kirby Smart, Kindley noted that it was Kirby’s drive and constant motivation that he has missed the most.

He also went on to give advice to the younger Bulldogs in Athens.

“Take it all in. Just soak it all up because it feels like I had just got there and now I’m here already. Don’t waste no time. The time is short at Georgia. Everything you do, you gotta pay attention to.”

“Do everything the right way.”

Busy week for Solomon Kindley, including possible meeting with Falcons

Former Georgia football OT Solomon Kindley says he has meetings with multiple NFL teams, including a potential one with the Atlanta Falcons.

Could the Atlanta Falcons finally snap the streak of refusing to select former Georgia payers in the NFL Draft?

This year could be the year, especially with the high volume of Georgia players in the draft. Is it possible that the Falcons will be left no choice but to draft a former Bulldog?

Solomon Kindley, Georgia’s offensive guard who is viewed as a 1-3 round draft pick, said that he believes he has a formal interview with the Falcons this week.

He also added that he has met with the Packers and Patriots, and also thinks he has a meeting with the Chiefs coming up.

Kindley to the Falcons would excite Georgia fans, and it would surely excite Kindley, who would stay close to home. Kindley grew up in Jacksonville, Florida.

And then there’s the Chiefs, who Kindley also said he believes he has a meeting with this week. Kindley, if taken by Kansas City, would pair up with speedster Mecole Hardman on the Super Bowl champs.

But the possibility that excites me the most is Kindley to the Patriots. The two parties have already met at the NFL Combine, and it’s a known fact that Pats head coach Bill Belichick is a big fan of drafting Dawgs.

If Kindley does wind up in New England, he would join an offensive line that already features two Georgia guys — David Andrews and Isaiah Wynn. Additionally, he would join his fellow Dawgs in blocking for another Georgia boy, running back Sony Michel.

In Indy, Kindley measured in at 6-foot-3 and 1/4 inches tall and weighed in at 337 pounds.

Since 2017, Kindley started 10 games at right guard and 26 at left guard.

Kindley left Georgia with one year of eligibility remaining.

Multiple former Georgia players go to Falcons rivals in latest NFL mock draft

Three former Georgia football players, including Jake Fromm and Jacob Eason, go to Atlanta Falcons’ rivals.

[jwplayer fqzjlGje]

The NFL Draft is coming up in just a few months and multiple former Bulldogs are expecting to hear their names called in Las Vegas.

In the latest four-round 2020 NFL mock draft done by USA TODAY’s DraftWire, multiple former Georgia players go in round one and three guys head to the NFC South.

However, none are projected to go the Falcons, a franchise that has routinely passed up on drafting players from the in-state university over the years.

The first two picks of the draft see Joe Burrow headed to Cincinnati and Chase Young to Washington.

Andrew Thomas goes early…

Pick No. 4: Andrew Thomas to the Giants

At No. 4 the first Dawg, offensive tackle Andrew Thomas, gets taken by the New York Giants.

On Thomas, DraftWire wrote:

If the Giants want Daniel Jones to become a true franchise quarterback, they’re going to have to protect him. General manager Dave Gettleman is as old-school as they come, so don’t be surprised when he spends this pick in the trenches. Moving back would be ideal given this year’s depth at both tackle and along the interior, but if they’re stuck here, Thomas is a strong pick.

At No. 5, the Miami Dolphins take Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Kindley to Tennessee…

Pick No. 29: Solomon Kindley to the Titans

In the first round, at pick No. 29, Georgia has its second player selected in the draft. Offensive guard Solomon Kindley, one of the most consistent blockers at Georgia over the past couple of seasons, is projected to the Tennessee Titans, where he would team up with former UGA center Ben Jones.

On Kindley, Draft Wire wrote:

If Derrick Henry leaves in free agency, running back obviously becomes a strong possibility here. But if he returns, the Titans should focus on fortifying an already strong offensive line with young reinforcements. Kindley is the best of a deep class of interior blockers, and his experience against top competition in the SEC have him ready to make an impact from Day 1.

Former Bulldog goes to the NFC South in the second round…
