One of the Philippines’ best amateurs has signed a professional contract with the country’s greatest star.
Middleweight Eumir Felix Marcial, a member of the 2021 Philippines Olympic team, has joined the stable of Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions and is expected to make his pro debut this fall in the United States.
Marcial, 24, also intends to fight in the Tokyo Games, as professionals are allowed to compete in the Olympics.
“It is an honor to have my idol Senator Manny Pacquiao as my mentor and promoter,” Marcial said. “I have seen the tremendous opportunities that Senator Pacquiao and MP Promotions President Sean Gibbons have given to so many Filipino Boxers.
“I feel working under the MP Promotions banner will give me the best opportunity as I prepare for the Tokyo Olympics and my professional career.”
Marcial reportedly secured a berth in the Olympics by going 4-0 in the Asia-Oceania Olympic Qualifying tournament in March in Amman, Jordan.
The native of Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur, won the gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games in December and earned a silver medal in the World Boxing Championships this past September. He lost to Russian Gleb Bakshi 5-0 in the final.
Marcial joins John Riel Casimero, Jerwin Ancajas and Pedro Taduran at MP Promotions.
