Auburn Basketball falls out of latest ESPN BPI top 25

Auburn took quite a tumble in rankings following its’ loss to USC on Sunday.

Auburn suffered its second loss of the season last Sunday, taking a 74-71 defeat at USC in Los Angeles.

Because of the loss, Auburn fell several places in both the Associated Press poll, as well as the USA TODAY coaches poll. Despite dropping several places in both polls, as well as the KenPom, the Tigers failed to have such luck with the Basketball Power Index from ESPN.

After Sunday’s loss, Auburn has fallen to No. 28 overall, a seven-spot drop from last week’s rankings. The win moved USC up to spaces to No. 96, while Wednesday’s opponent, Washington, ranks one spot higher at No. 95.

Before the Tigers face the Huskies in Seattle, here’s a look at how Auburn ranks in the major categories that make up the ESPN Basketball Power Index.

Where Alabama ranks in ESPN’s updated Basketball Power Index

Despite a tough loss to Gonzaga, Nate Oats and Alabama still have one of the best resumes in the entire country according to ESPN’s BPI.

[autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the Alabama men’s basketball team are fresh off a 100-90 loss to the Gonzaga Bulldogs this past weekend.

Despite the loss, the Crimson Tide still has one of the best early-season resumes in the entire country,

Now it is time to see how that loss to Gonzaga affected Alabama in the latest update of ESPN’s Basketball Power Index.

According to ESPN, the BPI is a “measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward. BPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Strength of Record (SOR) is a measure of team accomplishment based on how difficult a team’s W-L record is to achieve. Game predictions account for opponent strength, pace of play, site, travel distance, day’s rest, and altitude, and are used to simulate the season 10,000 times to produce season projections. Auburn has 96% chance to beat Georgia State on Wednesday

Auburn hopes to return to the win column on Wednesday, and the ESPN Matchup Predictor suggests that it will happen.

The No. 18 Auburn Tigers look to bounce back this Wednesday night by hosting Georgia State for a 7 p.m. CT tip at Neville Arena.

Auburn suffered its first loss of the season last Saturday to Memphis at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, as part of the Holiday Hoopsgiving event. The Tigers could not connect on most shots, only succeeding on 38% of their attempts from the field. Auburn could not take advantage of Memphis’ turnovers, only scoring 11 points off of 19 turnovers.

Auburn’s [autotag]Zep Jasper[/autotag] said the intensity of practice leading up to Wednesday’s game has been on another level following the loss to Memphis, a game that didn’t have pop.

“I just felt like the intensity has been high level,” Jasper said Tuesday. “I just feel like we have been running up and down, communicating, going as hard as possible. It is different from last week.”

Auburn wants to regain momentum by earning a win over Georgia State on Wednesday, and ESPN’s Basketball Power Index suggests it will do just that. According to ESPN’s matchup predictor, Auburn has a 96% chance to beat the Panthers.

Georgia State enters the contest 5-4 with wins over Mercer, Texas A&M Commerce and UNC Asheville. The Panthers are ranked No. 277 in the latest ESPN BPI rankings, which leads only Arkansas State among Sun Belt Conference teams.

Auburn has three nonconference games remaining before SEC play opens. The Tigers are favored to win all three games according to the BPI.

How Auburn’s loss to Memphis affects their place in the latest ESPN BPI ranking

Auburn remains in the top 25 of the ESPN Basketball Power Index rankings following a loss to Memphis last Saturday.

The No. 18 Auburn Tigers suffered its first loss of the season last Saturday, falling to Memphis, 82-73.

The loss to Memphis was tough, but not a terrible one, as Memphis had beaten two SEC squads prior to Saturday’s game at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Auburn just had an off day, shooting just 38% from the field, being out-rebounded by 11, and not taking advantage of turnovers.

This week, Auburn gets back into the routine of playing two games per week, starting Wednesday against Georgia State. On Sunday, Auburn will begin its west coast road trip by facing USC.

Heading into the week, Auburn checks in at No. 21 in the latest ESPN Basketball Power Index rankings, dropping four spots over the last seven days. According to ESPN, The Men’s College Basketball Power Index (BPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward. BPI represents how many points above or below average a team is.

Here is a look at how Auburn ranks in several major categories that the BPI measures heading into this week’s games.

Where Alabama ranks in ESPN’s Basketball Power Index after win over No. 1 Houston

Alabama men’s basketball ranks among the best in the country according to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index.

[autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the Alabama men’s basketball program just continue to prove to be one of the best teams in the entire country.

This past weekend saw the Crimson Tide go on the road and defeat No. 1 Houston, 71-65.

With that victory fresh on the mind, let’s take a look at where Alabama ranks in the latest update of ESPN’s Basketball Power Index.

According to ESPN, the BPI is a “measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward. BPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Strength of Record (SOR) is a measure of team accomplishment based on how difficult a team’s W-L record is to achieve. Auburn Basketball remains in top-20 of latest Basketball Power Index rankings

Auburn remains perfect on the season, but one aspect is driving the Tigers’ stock down.

The Auburn Tigers saw a significant climb in the latest polls after a dominating effort last Friday, beating Colgate 93-66 at Neville Arena behind 10 made three-pointers.

Due to the win, as well as several big names falling in the last week, Auburn has climbed five spots to No. 14 in the latest USA TODAY Sports’ coaches poll, while rising four places to No. 11 in the Associated Press Poll.

Auburn’s week is off to a great start thanks to the voters, but how do analytics favor the Tigers?

The Basketball Power Index from ESPN ranks Auburn at No. 16 overall, and No. 5 in the SEC ahead of this week’s action. Their 8-0 record has kept the Tigers high in the rankings, but there is one aspect of Auburn’s schedule that keeps them lower than most would expect them to be.

The BPI “is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward. BPI represents how many points above or below average a team is.”

Here is a look at where Auburn falls in the major categories that make up the ESPN Basketball Power Index.

Where Alabama ranks in ESPN’s Basketball Power Index on Dec. 1

Alabama men’s basketball ranks among the best in the country according to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index.

[autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] has to be pleased with the start that his Alabama men’s basketball team has gotten off to here in the 2022-23 season. The Crimson Tide currently sit with a 6-1 record and have some quality wins over Michigan State and North Carolina.

Even though the No. 11 ranked Crimson Tide has already played some stout competition, the non-conference slate will not get any easier with upcoming matchups against No. 1 Houston and No. 14 Gonzaga.

Now that a whole month of competition is in the books, let’s take a look at where Alabama ranks in the latest update of ESPN’s Basketball Power Index.

According to ESPN, the BPI is a “measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward. BPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Strength of Record (SOR) is a measure of team accomplishment based on how difficult a team’s W-L record is to achieve. Auburn Basketball has 77% chance to beat Bradley on Tuesday

Bradley brings a solid offensive attack into Tuesday’s game with Auburn, but the Tigers’ defense may be too much to handle says the ESPN BPI.

The No. 16 Auburn Tigers are ready to begin their journey at the Cancun Classic, as they face the Bradley Braves on Tuesday evening at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.

Bradley’s lineup features four players who average double-figures in scoring per game, led by Ja’Shon Henry’s 13 points per contest. In all, six Braves boast double-figure averages. How does that counteract Auburn’s defense?

The Tigers have won all four games this season by an average score of 74-58.  As a team, Auburn averages 44.8 rebounds per game, with [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] leading the way with nine per contest. Broome, alongside [autotag]Dylan Cardwell[/autotag], is great in the blocked-shots department as well.

Those numbers, mixed in with [autotag]Wendell Green[/autotag]’s 14 points per game, lead the ESPN Basketball Power Index to give Auburn a great chance to beat Bradley on Tuesday night. According to the latest projection, Auburn has a 77% chance to win its first game at the Cancun Challenge on Tuesday.

The Tigers currently rank No. 16 in the ESPN Basketball Power Index rankings, while the Braves are No. 91.

Auburn Basketball has 96% chance to beat Texas Southern on Friday

The latest projection from ESPN’s Basketball Power Index forecasts a huge win for Auburn at Neville Arena.

The No. 15 Auburn Tigers have one more chance to fine-tune their craft before making the journey to Mexico to compete in the Cancun Challenge.

According to the latest ESPN Basketball Power Index projection, Auburn will have the perfect opportunity to do just that on Friday night. The Tigers welcome Texas Southern to Neville Arena on Friday and have been given a 96% chance to earn a victory according to the ESPN BPI.

Auburn enters the contest with a 3-0 record, while Texas Southern is 1-4. Texas Southern has played five quality opponents and has one solid win over Arizona State. Over the last week, Auburn has risen to No. 12 in the ESPN BPI rankings, while Texas Southern ranks No. 282.

The ESPN BPI favors Auburn in its’ remaining non-conference games, with the closest margin expected to come on Dec. 21 at Washington, where Auburn is given a 60% chance to win in Seattle.

According to ESPN, the Men’s College Basketball Power Index (BPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward. BPI represents how many points above or below average a team is.

Auburn falls in ESPN’s latest Basketball Power Index rankings

Auburn will look to boost their rankings win a win over Winthrop Tuesday night.

Auburn basketball is 2-0 to start the season but it has not been pretty. The Tiger’s offense struggled mightily in their 67-59 win over USF last Friday.

Their struggles have caused their ranking in ESPN’s Basketball Power Index (BPI) to fall three spots to No. 15.

The BPI “is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward. BPI represents how many points above or below average a team is.”

One of the biggest concerns about Auburn entering this team was their 3-point shooting and through two games those fears have proven true. The Tigers are shooting just 18% (9-of-50) from deep. [autotag]Allen Flanigan[/autotag] is the team’s top shooter so far, making 37.5% (3-of-8) in two games.

The Tigers will return to action Tuesday night when they host Winthrop (2-1) in Neville Arena. The contest is a non-bracketed game of the 2022 Cancun Challenge and is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. CT and will be on the SEC Network.
